I heard this for the first time today. It sounds like cheap, dated R&B mixed with Daughtry... yet still WAYYY too Country. Not good at all!

Send House Party to CHR/HAC now ! Or Leave the night on. Both should do well, of course i thought this would do well too, but if Wanted didn't have that much impact i suppose this was bound to fail too. It seems that a country song can't crossover without an stupid rap verse in it

I'm surprised this did as well as it did on pop. This honestly shouldn't have even made his album, let alone be a single to any format. It's treacherous.

It seems that a country song can't crossover without an stupid rap verse in it I don't know, this could be a one-time push to pop radio, especially since "Take Your Time" didn't do so hot. And I don't think it would look good in the eyes of country radio if Sam's songs keep getting pushed to pop radio. "Leave the Night On" peaked last November on country, so idk if they want to push it to pop/HAC/AC now, but I guess it could always happen. LTNO has the best shot imo because I think the instrumentation in "House Party" sounds too country (the guitars) for pop. If either of them is released on pop, I would like to see it smash. It's definitely a shame that country songs haven't done so well on CHR since "If I Die Young" without a rap remix. Even with a rap remix, no country songs have reached the top 20 on pop radio since "Cruise" IIRC, and that was 2 years ago.

I wonder, is it harder for a country song to do something on pop, or a pop song on country?

Which is why a pop mix of "House Party" should be released to CHR if they want to give him a shot at a Top 20 pop hit.

He is an artist that lives in the edge of country, right now he is hot on that format, but Hunter Hayes was hot for a while and now he is struggling to get airplay. Sam could suffer the same fate, he doesn't fit what is hot on country right now and the fact he is doing well could be an anomaly. Crossing to pop would be a way to make sure there's interest in future releases. Frankly i didn't understand why they didn't push Leave the night on in first place. The song was a hit on country with very good sales and could fit on pop even better than Take your time. Once you have your first hit (no matter if it's smaller than expected) you should try your second. If pop refused to play the new song, bad luck, but it's better to try (anyway, he is doing great on country right now, so it wouldn't be a problem, at least not now)

It could go either way. Look what happened to Taylor and her country singles. Granted she was going full pop with songs like WANEGBT or IKYWT, but her country singles underperformed when compared to her previous eras. I don't see Sam going the Taylor Swift route and switching to pure pop, so he should be OK but anything could happen from now. While Sam is pushing the boundaries on what country radio plays, I think Sam's music fits with what country radio (poppy country) likes to play these days. He has tons of momentum on country radio, so I guess it doesn't hurt to keep pushing his songs to country. I agree with you on the "Leave the Night On" part. Why they pushed "Take Your Time" over LTNO I will never understand. I had originally thought they would push LTNO while they were pushing "Take Your Time" on country...

Well, they obviously like him now, and bro country won't dominate forever, but what happened with Hunter Hayes makes me believe he will be safer if he is able to score some hits on the pop chart (or at least the hot ac chart).
I think they watched the success of Take your time and try to make the crossover when the song was hot. LTNO was a big hit too, and i think it would do at least as well as Take your time did if they release it to pop.
Anyway, if they are going to try it again, they should do some tv promo

Anyway, if they are going to try it again, they should do some tv promo The thing with Hunter is that he was never as big as Sam is right now on country, and I think he could have kept having success on country radio if it had not been for the mess in his singles strategy between "Everybody's Got Somebody But Me" and "Invisible". But with his AC-leaning music, his success could have dwindled even without the singles strategy mess, just like what happened to Lady Antebellum. The popular style of country will change over time, but I think Sam can adapt to the new trend. That being said, I would love for Sam to try for hits on Top 40/HAC/AC and would love it even more if he actually is able to have hits!
