Oh...I don't think I ever heard It Girl but I do remember Don't Wanna Go Home. It kinda annoyed me. To be honest, outside of Talk Dirty and Trumpets, I've never liked Jason until now. This album is so dynamite!

With a dumb ass title like Future History, it was doomed from the start.

I feel like he and his label are happy with this because a) he still makes them money, b) he is all over the radio, and c) now that he is a TV judge, he has even more exposure but yeah...if he can't prove himself as an album seller after 4 albums, I don't think it's ever gonna happen. Sales for Future History are just... What singles were released from that project?? I remember It Girl and Don't Wanna Go Home That was it I think. "The Other Side" also? Damn that shit flopped.

Even though "Future History" pretty much flopped the singles did well enough to keep radio interested. I didn't even think the cd was all that bad. However even though I feel like "Talk Dirty" was a bigger hit I thought Jason's numbers would have been bigger this time around. I believe his first week physical sales may be 24-30 thousand this time around.

'Try Me' needs to be the next single. Perfect breezy summer hit in the making.

I really liked Want to Want Me, Cheyenne, Try Me, Broke, and I even enjoy Get Ugly. Cheyenne was easily my favorite track though!!! The Meghan duet wasn't but, but forgettable. The rest of the album was just okay/meh, but I didn't hear anything terrible (that I remember, anyways).

I was and still am really salty about it actually because I still think that was his best overall album, and Breathing is the most epic song he will ever make in his life. the smash that never was :'( All the singles were on point, but for some reason radio and the public in general were just not feeling him. I'm fairly meh on Talk Dirty, and just can't get interested in him enough to give this new one a chance.

Yeah Future History flopping wasn't entirely on the music. Jason broke his neck during rehearsals for that tour and had to halt everything for it, including promotion. I feel like he and his label are happy with this because a) he still makes them money, b) he is all over the radio, and c) now that he is a TV judge, he has even more exposure but yeah...if he can't prove himself as an album seller after 4 albums, I don't think it's ever gonna happen. "Breathing" went for adds and had a hot start before being pretty much dropped once he broke his neck.

Sometimes I kinda feel bad for Jason because his album sales are so low (at least when compared with his single success). It’s weird how some artists can have one successful single after another but can’t get people interested in their album. But on the other hand, being a successful singles artist isn’t a terrible fate at all. I mean, there aren’t that many artists who have hugely successful singles and big album sales, and there are countless artists out there who will never have neither successful singles nor albums.
Anyway, I like the album, and I hope it does well. I especially love Cheyenne, easily one of my favourite Jason Derulo songs ever!

Judging within the context of album sales as a whole, almost a quarter-mil sold of an album by a "singles" artist isn't terrible.

I'm not a Jason Derulo fan at all, but every song on this album sounds like a hit.
My favorites are "Love Me Down" and "Painkiller". What kind of Urban bop is "Love Like That"!

Debuts at #4 on the Billboard 200 with 37,000 units (22,000 pure sales). It ties the peak of Talk Dirty, which also debuted at #4.

YES @ Pitchfork deciding to review this today and give it a decent score, especially for a pop album. They said Want To Want Me is his best song to date, which makes perfect sense, considering it was the song that made me break down and by the album. Tho...they also raved about Try Me, which is just OK (and another excuse to use one of their favorite adjectives: Balearic ) I am mad that they dissed Get Ugly though. I am OBSESSED with that song.

Surprisingly, I enjoyed most or all of the songs on this album. They're catchy and good for what they were. Though the lyrics for Get Ugly are cringe-worthy to some extent.
I would recommend Want to Want Me, Cheyenne, Try Me and maybe Pull Up.

Wow, this album is unexpectedly good! It gets a little meh for me in the middle between "Pull-Up" and "Painkiller," but the first three tracks are amazing, and everything past "Painkiller" minus "Love Me Down" is also really good!
"Cheyenne," "Try Me," and "Broke" are all single worthy. "Get Ugly" might also be thrown in there if they want a fifth. "Love Like This" could also work for an urban only.

I am completely obsessed with Try Me. Really pulling for that one as the next single.
Broke is a great jam too.

I can't @ how easily I'm being slayed by Pull-Up. When is this becoming a multi-format hit?

It’s weird how some artists can have one successful single after another but can’t get people interested in their album. I don't think it's weird at all. He doesn't have that compelling aura, that star factor that makes people get really into him as an artist. Most singles artists are like that. He's not the only one. BUT, he is a great pop songwriter and a good dancer. He really knows how to make entertaining videos and when he performs he really sells his songs so he'll continue to have a good career. I agree with you that there's no reason to feel sorry for him.

Yeah he was signed as a songwriter. Even if his albums don't sell, he makes good money from his publishing. And he has had a good number of successful songs by this point. Even if his own recording career sputters out, I can easily see him continuing to be a successful songwriter. He seems to have a knack of doing songs that are so vacant that pretty much anyone could take his place at times. That's not a bad quality always.
