I'm :'( at the hate for Party Rock Anthem. I really really really hate that song. I didn't like the song at all when it appeared, and the fact that it was everywhere month after month after month didn't help it. Anyway i have worse cases, Alejandro Sanz's Corazón partío in the 90's was a big big success here in Spain. I wasn't a fan of his, but generally tolerate his songs, but that one was hate at the first listen, of course it became his biggest hit, and after it was done in Spain started in Portugal, and after that it was a remix. Fortunately i didn't have the same feelings about La tortura his hit with Shakira, because that was a hit of similar proportions

Hmm. A song is a song, regardless of what people think.

I think it's odd how SYA came out of the blue juuuuuuust in time to keep a song from breaking a record. Especially since the only time I've heard it is when I played the minute sample at iTunes. It's Harlem Shake rare. It was simply released to coincide with the release of the movie and its soundtrack. Unless of course Universal based the release date of their $250 million film and its soundtrack around stopping Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars from breaking a Mariah Carey Billboard chart record that nobody outside of chart nerds cares or even knows about. Which also would have required a functioning crystal ball. Which do you think is more likely?

Since Billboard 2015 began (in December, 2014), there has been two chart topping hits: Blank Space by Taylor Swift and Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars. See You Again will be the third by Wiz Khalifa. Congratulations to Khalifa!

Such low (and boring) turnover, but even if "Uptown Funk" never existed we'd only have had two #1's in all of that time (Ed Sheeran and Maroon 5) so we'd still be a bit dullified from the chart.

I'll bet Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men don't care that much.
All records are made to be broken. This one clearly will be broken, it is just a matter of time. The next 10+ week run at #1 is right around the corner. We will all be doing this again soon.

Or...we could not...and wait until a song is actually close (as in week 15-16), instead of getting way ahead of ourselves with week after week after week of "WILL IT BEAT OSD? I BET IT'LL BEAT OSD!"...when the song ultimately ends up falling 3 weeks short.

So I don't understand the logic that 10 weeks = super close to 16 weeks.

However, "we" meaning the people in this thread? Doubtful. The "Beat OSD" chants started 2-3 weeks ago. More people than just Mark G. wanted to see this record broken, when the next run occurs, same thing will happen.

Hmm. A song is a song, regardless of what people think. Sure, but even objectively there are still things like melody, chords, structure, etc. that speak to song craft. Some 'songs' are clearly more about writing while others are more about production.

All of that talk was way premature except for maybe the angle that there was only weak competition on the horizon.

Right? By the time a song a #1 song is in its sixth week it already feels like it's been there for a long time. So I don't understand the logic that 10 weeks = super close to 16 weeks. I think the stagnant nature of the chart, especially the Top 10, lately has made peopple a bit too...trigger-happy when it comes to predictions. Just because you can fairly-accurately predict the Top 10 a week or two in advance doesn't mean you can do so 6+ weeks in advance. Thankfully, the chart hasn't become THAT predictable. Logically, I agree. Predicting this song WILL get to 17 weeks this far in advance is wishful thinking at best. However, "we" meaning the people in this thread? Doubtful. The "Beat OSD" chants started 2-3 weeks ago. More people than just Mark G. wanted to see this record broken, when the next run occurs, same thing will happen. You're right - as much as I think we/all posters should cool it with the premature predictions/wishful thinking, obviously some posters will still engage in such behavior. But refraining from constantly quoting, tagging, and egging on such posteres might help, no? It seems that some people want to see these threads constantly descend into a ridiculous clusterf**k.

Alanis Hot 100 airplay top 10's You Learn #1 5 weeks Uninvited #4 Thank U #2 Head Over Feet #3 Ironic #2 No doubt Uninvited (possibly one of, if not her best song) woulda hit def. #1 if it had a damn single! Rrrr sooo many mid-late 90s stellar (still classic and present day radio staples) songs that were criminally robbed of multiple weeks at #1 or damn close due to record company greed! I doubt Alanis is complaining she never had a #1 song. Her album sold a ton because they never released singles. It would have sold a ton no matter but still. I hadn't truly thought about it until now, but there is a history of rock songs not having commercial singles. Led Zeppelin released very few singles, for instance, so their Hot 100 history is limited. Acts like Nirvana and Pearl Jam rarely released singles, and that is true of Alanis, too. Perhaps that's why rock albums have sold better in general, too?
