I really really really hate that song. I didn't like the song at all when it appeared, and the fact that it was everywhere month after month after month didn't help it.

Anyway i have worse cases, Alejandro Sanz's Corazón partío in the 90's was a big big success here in Spain. I wasn't a fan of his, but generally tolerate his songs, but that one was hate at the first listen, of course it became his biggest hit, and after it was done in Spain started in Portugal, and after that it was a remix. Fortunately i didn't have the same feelings about La tortura his hit with Shakira, because that was a hit of similar proportions

The track is a tribute to the film’s co-star Paul Walker, who died before the movie was finished. The song plays over the final scene in the movie (which bowed in theaters on April 3) and sold 464,000 downloads for the week.

Since Billboard 2015 began (in December, 2014), there has been two chart topping hits: Blank Space by Taylor Swift and Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars. See You Again will be the third by Wiz Khalifa. Congratulations to Khalifa!

Such low (and boring) turnover, but even if "Uptown Funk" never existed we'd only have had two #1's in all of that time (Ed Sheeran and Maroon 5) so we'd still be a bit dullified from the chart.

Logically, I agree.  Predicting this song WILL get to 17 weeks this far in advance is wishful thinking at best.  However, "we" meaning the people in this thread?  Doubtful.    The "Beat OSD" chants started 2-3 weeks ago.  More people than just Mark G. wanted to see this record broken, when the next run occurs, same thing will happen.

Sure, but even objectively there are still things like melody, chords, structure, etc. that speak to song craft. Some 'songs' are clearly more about writing while others are more about production.

I think the stagnant nature of the chart, especially the Top 10, lately has made peopple a bit too...trigger-happy when it comes to predictions. Just because you can fairly-accurately predict the Top 10 a week or two in advance doesn't mean you can do so 6+ weeks in advance. Thankfully, the chart hasn't become THAT predictable.

You're right - as much as I think we/all posters should cool it with the premature predictions/wishful thinking, obviously some posters will still engage in such behavior. But refraining from constantly quoting, tagging, and egging on such posteres might help, no? It seems that some people want to see these threads constantly descend into a ridiculous clusterf**k.

I hadn't truly thought about it until now, but there is a history of rock songs not having commercial singles. Led Zeppelin released very few singles, for instance, so their Hot 100 history is limited. Acts like Nirvana and Pearl Jam rarely released singles, and that is true of Alanis, too. Perhaps that's why rock albums have sold better in general, too?
