I can't at the people that don't see Iggy's cultural appropriation and homophobia as a bad thing. But its ok cause shes popular. yeah that makes sense. It's music and entertainment, it's not that deep / personal not to mention the alleged ""homophobia"" took place ages ago when she wasn't even an adult woman yet and re:"cultural appropriation circa 2015" I absolutely do NOT care 99% of the time, sue me. Maybe if you have a problem and dislike it try not entering her threads so often for starters and you automatically won't be as exposed to it. Deal? The thing is that it is a bigger issue than just Iggy, but Iggy is one of the most well known artists so she takes the brunt of it. You would have to be either completely oblivious or just in denial about the fact that she appropriates black culture. I'm not going to make a social justice rant here, but by supporting artists like Iggy you are contributing to the problem and encouraging other artists to do the same because it sells.

Hip hop music has been successful and mainstream for quite a long while now, it's reaching/inspiring/influencing people from all around the world. A little girl in Australia was touched by it so much she actually moved out of her country to the US so she could be on arguably the epicenter of it all. Burn her at the stake? Hell we're on the Internet right now, everything is reaching everyone. I understand the white privilege debate but just like you said it's a bigger issue than Iggy and I hardly think she should be targeted the way she has constantly been but like I said music/entertainment has never been that deep to me so maybe I am oblivious. I appreciate Iggy Azalea and enjoy her music/videos/etc, not even sorry.

Iggy making hip hop music isn't bad, it is how she does it and the persona she puts on. Instead of being herself she emulates black gestures. What it comes down to basically is she can act black but not face the problems people who are black do so she is exploiting it. Especially because she considers what she does to be a new style which is why she called her album the New Classic. And whether or not music is deep to you that doesn't change the fact that what is portrayed in the industry is consumed by a lot of people and has a lot of influence. I don't think Iggy is a bad person, but she is using cultural appropriation for her benefit which is very problematic.

Iggy is more of a popstar than a hip hop star in most aspects of her mainstream career now anyway, from the performance stage settings to the Clueless/Kill Bill/Showgirls/Earth Girls Are Easy etc inspired music videos and so on, hardly the appropriator villain you all love to claim her to be. That however doesn't invalidate the fact she's a rapper and has every right to be inspired and incorporate elements from different genres/areas of entertainment as she pleases seeing as she's been exposed to them throughout her entire life.
And there really is no point in getting into her rap accent yet again either, I'm sure you've heard plenty of times about how she's been around Southern rappers ever since she moved to the US, learning rap for over way half of the past decade now, from that vile ex-bf of hers that's been trying to cash in on her success, to some of the Dungeon Family ppl as well, she then linked up to Pu$haz ink when she moved to the East Coast at some point and actually ended up signing a deal with the "King of the South" T.I. later on plus it's clearly the way it feels right for her to do it since it is her art, and most likely her truth.. is it an "ignorant art"? welp. And who are you to say she isn't being "herself"? You've never even met her, let alone followed her life journey so far. Again you don't have to support it, and she most certainly does not have to stop what she's doing (and loves to do or you know wouldn't have been trying for years unsuccessfully til she had the "luck" of a song finally catching on), she's not taking away anyone's opportunities, the biggest female rapper is still a black woman and there hasn't been an influx of white females/Australians/whatever taking over last time I checked, in fact Iggy herself is "struggling" to remain a competitor at a larger scale according to most people.
Ultimately what I really don't care about is getting into these annoying back and forths which is what I meant in the previous posts, Iggy's music makes me happy, I enjoy most of her career-related stuff and that's it. I also don't think it's fair how she's gotten more backlash than other celebrities who are convicted criminals and/or have done actual harmful stuff to other human beings without them being able to simply turn the sound/tv off but but I digress. like I said it's whatever, just like I don't waste my time on music/sports/movie genres etc I already know I (will) dislike for the most part, these aren't the debates I care for in my entertainment, I already have enough issues to deal with in real life, call me oblivious, selfish or whatever you want.. I just don't really care *ye shrug*

I'm really curious about the first single, will she give in and deliver a straight up pop banger? or will it be another hip-pop crossover bop like her previous hits? something less commercial-sounding like some of her mixtape work? or a new sound entirely different for her? hopefully not a forgettable/poor track but whatever she puts out will get attacked so they might play it safe..? I wish she was still on social media so we'd have a bunch of info already ugh.
I don't rly want her to stick to The Invisible Men either although we don't have any other info besides them + The Arcade again (I do think they're great and can produce very different sounding material, I just want her to be around other people too)

I think she tweeted that the songs she was working on had shouty choruses that she could do on her own.

Yess, she's going for less features!! She handled "Work" on her own. I need another one like that.

I can't picture Iggy other than blonde Iggy tbh :kii: I was already a bit surprised when she started rocking the shorter cut, does she have to put extensions now every time she wants to bring the IggyTail out? :'( Altho I did like the hairstyle with the pink tips for some reason

I still can't get over the fact she changed her face. It's makes me so incredibly angry. She's so beautiful, so unnecessary. She always had a naturally striking look, and these little touch ups just completely took away from that charm. Ugh, whatever. I could see her doing this in like 5 years from now, but way too soon.

All that appropriation talk coupled with that GIF of Nicki Minaj in that wig is funny. :kii

Nicki making a career off of biting Kimberly Jones' style is not at all the same as Iggy making a career of shucking and jiving like a modern day minstrel show. How one could be so bothered by Onika's antics that they overlook the bigger implications of Iggy's career is beyond me.

Speaking of Queen Bee, we better get that Kim x T.I. x Iggy track THIS year in one of their projects. I'm so done waiting for it.

No one even said Kim's name, but if you wanna go there, I agree, it's not "the same" as whatever you think Iggy does. Nicki definitely appropriates though.

Aside from wearing a kimono a few years ago, which she apologized for, I cannot think of a time when Nicki appropriated another culture. If you're trying to suggest that black women wearing weaves or lacefronts is "appropriation" then...that is incorrect.

Well, I don't know what you guys would qualify as appropriation, but a lot of times it seems that Nicki is trying to look and sound like white pop stars.

Well, I don't know what you guys would qualify as appropriation, but a lot of times it seems that Nicki is trying to look and sound like white pop stars. That is not a case of appropriation for a lot of reasons. Let sister soblu get you together a bit. Well firstly the dominant culture of a society cannot be "appropriated" especially when eurocentric beauty standards are still the ideal and black women are still pressured to conform to that and alter their natural hair/features to be seen as beautiful/to be taken seriously professionally. Secondly, there is nothing sacred or exclusive to one culture about 32 inches of blonde hair. Thirdly, the hair that she was wearing, whether it was Brazilian or Indian or Malaysian, was sold for the very purpose of being used as a weave or lacefront. There isn't anyone robbing another culture of their voice or autonomy by creating some knockoff variation. Contrast that with putting on a blaccent and using AAVE to be cool and different, even when black people are harassed, belittled and murdered for their speech patterns and the way they present, it is not a valid comparison to say that Nicki and Iggy are on the same wavelength of insensitivity at all.* *This is of course excluding the Fuhrer Minaj debacle.
