Borchetta is going all out! I hope he can launch Nick as a superstar. It would be really cool for 'Idol' to add another star to their list this late in their run!
I think they are going to try to pull out all the stops with Nick and next season's winner. They want people to watch the final season and a lot of that will be dependent on Nick's success I think. Also, they want Idol to go out on a high note so they are going to work extra hard on making them into superstars IMO.
Apparently, Nick's aunt was the admin for my old department. What a small world. Anyway, despite my clear preference of Clark (vocally and musically, at least), I am willing to give this guy a shot, provided the material is good.
First, congrats to Nick. He seems like a great guy that continued to believe in his dream to make money at making music even at the ripe old age of 29.
Here on my initial thoughts on where this may all lead- He has the looks (let's be honest - being nice looking helps in the music biz). He has a nice voice. He's good but not great (not much range) but he does well live so singing should not be an issue. Needs to work on his stage presence (even though he has been on stage prior to Idol). HE IS GOING TO GET A BIG PUSH FROM HIS LABEL. THEY WANT TO MAKE A STAR. This is a very important point. He needs GREAT songs. I think this is the iffy thing. I've read some post Idol win interviews and in all of them he talks about his strong suit being his songwriting AND that he wants to bring along his drummer and guitar player from his band, Beach Avenue. WARNING! Be careful here. I've listened to that's band's single and it's not great. OKAY but not a song that is going to propel Nick out to the masses. So if Nick is going to want to use his songs or have all co-writes, that's a bad move on his part (at least on the first album). I don't think they will rush the first album but I don't think they will wait that long either. Need to get it out while Nick is still on people's minds. He needs very good songs. Just ask Adam Lambert how things have gone for him with middle of the road songs to date (and Adam has much more star presence than Nick and it's still been a struggle with the solo career).
His debut album is also available for pre-orders through PledgeMusic?
Meanwhile, he's still recording the album:
October 11, 2015 Felt back at home hanging with my American Idol fam in San Francisco! Just got back to LA to record a new song tonight.
And another update:
October 10, 2015 I know a lot of you want to know when you will be hearing new music from me, and I promise I am hard at work to make that happen. Its tough to give exact time lines right now on when that will happen, but Big Machine Label Group's Scott Borchetta was recently interviewed by AJC.com. This can give you all some insight on what is going on, and what is soon to come!
“The first single went top 25 on Hot AC. [“Beautiful Life.”] He’s in the studio now. And there’s a chance we’ll get a single out before the end of the year. There’s a lot of excitement. We will be working on things we can’t announce yet. A lot of great writers and producers are writing with him. It will be a big deal as far as the next single. We are not rushing the album out. The music has to be right. That’s one thing that has been improperly done in the past. Okay, we have to take advantage of the attention. No. The best thing we can do for Nick is make sure we have a great record.I could see Nick in that Maroon 5 vein. He has the chops. He’s a great-looking kid. He has great blue-collar feel, a hardworking guy. Nick has all it takes.”

I think it's a mistake not to get some music out before year's end... Hopefully they have a plan for him, because a release after the holidays can be risky. There are less promotional opportunities, sales are imminently lesser after the holidays, etc... It's a huge missed opportunity.
Unfortunately, Idol is a sinking ship and people have already forgotten about him. Although, to be fair, there wasn't really much to remember in the first place. At least Clark was really unique. Oh well.
