I don't hear a Rob Thomas song, but I do hear a nice One republic song. This is pretty much what I expected from the song. Even though it's just 15 seconds. Ryan has a way to make all music he produces sound like his music.

This is really catchy. Would have probably been a Top 10 hit for OneRepublic.

This is going to be stuck in my head, I can see this hopefully getting a lot of radio play. I can't tell, but does Tedder have a verse in it? The vocals are kinda weird at times with the filter on them.

Yep, this sounds like classic Rob Thomas. It's a great song, and I'm hoping that he sees success on this and his album. Him reaching #1 on HOT AC would be refreshing to see again.

I'm so excited for this.
Edit: oh, it's out lol. It's kind of cheesy, but it sounds exactly like what I wanted from him.

This is decent. Not sure if I like it as a lead single, but this seems like a grower.

I love it. Finally, edgy Rob Thomas is back. The lyrics are edgy, the vocals are great, and the production is edgy. I've missed edgy Rob Thomas. LOL! As much as I enjoy songs like Overjoyed, Mockingbird, Someday, Our Song, etc., Rob can write that type of song in his sleep and as such his (and MB20's North) music has become a little samey, a little safe. I think this song is definitely moving in the right direction to break that cycle. Freshen things up like he said in the EW article.
As with any song, not everyone will like it, but here's why I think it's a great start for this era. It's catchy as heck. It should sound great blaring out the car with the windows down. It's definitely a summer song. Great vocals! It's short - 3.07 running time. Radio PDs should love that. It's ear-worm catchy. This isn't song of the year material but it's going to do it's job - get Rob back on top on HotAC and maybe even cross-over to Pop. I'm sure there's more serious stuff on the album (i.e., The Great Unknown). Trust You should do what MB20 tried to do with She's So Mean but with mixed results.

I have to agree that I think it sounds like classic Rob Thomas. It's the singing style here that has Rob all over it and personally what drew my attention to Rob as an artist in the first place. Ryan is a co-writer and did produce it which surprised me (finally Rob worked with a solo producer other than Matt Serletic) so the song is going to have a lot of Ryan in there but at the end of the day this is a Rob Thomas song. I would be shocked in the lyrics aren't mainly from Rob.

I really hope this does well but I'm nervous about it. As I've seen by how Lifehouse and Nickelback's most recent singles have bombed on the format. It makes me think that Hot AC isn't supporting any of the acts from the 2000s anymore. This needs to be top 10 here so it can have some follow-up singles be released. I want Rob to rightfully take back his throne on Hot AC before Maroon 5 takes it.

HOT AC is quickly turning into just another mainstream pop chart,minus- the hip hop songs, but even those are sometimes favored over the core acts like Script, Lifehouse, Nickelback,Train ect.. ,that barely crack the top 20 anymore; if even that? "tis a shame. Back to the song. It sounds so much more promising at full length. Much more Thomas orriented than Tedder. Rob Thomas sounds quite different vocally, but still a decent song.

I want Rob to rightfully take back his throne on Hot AC before Maroon 5 takes it. I personally don't really like Adam Levine but I will admit that Maroon5's past 2-3 singles have been really catchy. I thought Sugar was great. However, I am SO tired of hearing them on my radio constantly. Please HotAC - less M5 and less Taylor Swift. There's room for some other songs. This and Clarkson's new one for example. :)

Just saw on one of Thomas' tweets that the rest of the album would be coming after his summer tour, which I find kind of weird. So I guess expect to hear the rest of the album after sometime late August? That's so far away :(

This isn't what I look for in a Rob Thomas single. But, hey if it's a hit and paves the way for real gems like Ever The Same, Little Wonders, etc to hit in a climate like this...more power to him.

I even liked it better after listening to this version (rather than what Entertainment Weekly put up on Soundcloud). You can actually hear Rob on the third verse now. He was pretty muffled on the other version.

Diehard fans were saying the same thing when he came out with Lonely No More. I was a fan back then and it was ugly on the band's message board. I just read some ugly comments on Rob's Facebook page....he's a sell out, doesn't need auto tune, this isn't him, go back to your roots, etc. I guess people haven't been listening to Rob over the years when he says he loves pop music. I just don't think this music is any reach for him at all. It's different and to me refreshing (but I do really like some current pop music). These people might really have a fit when we hear the material he did with the electronic hip-hop guy. I am REALLY curious about that stuff. :)

Are there different versions then? People are reporting an earlier demo with Ryan(?) on the song was accidentally uploaded?

Also, any insight to why Rob/M20 has been so successful in Australia? I always wondered why he was huge down there but struggled in the UK. I've wondered about this, too. I didn't really become a big MB20 fan until after Smooth so what I really know about the YOSLY era was from the band's message board years ago. We do know that YOSLY was one of the biggest albums in Australia from a foreign group, EVER. It was massive. I guess it just connected with them even more than in the US. I think MB20 may have also had some success with that album in Germany. I know Rob's Little Wonders was very big in Germany. I saw a you tube clip where someone performed it on their version of American Idol. I think MB20 do pretty good in some areas of South America and Asia. However, they never did break big across most of Europe. I think Rob gave it another shot with Lonely No More but I don't think that really took off over there either. I guess at some point (and you are already rich) you just give up on trying to break somewhere. Like Robbie Williams never broke big in the US even though he tried several times.

I like this after a couple of listens. Better than "Her Diamonds", but not as much as "Lonely No More". I'm nervous about how it will do, though. Like was said above, HotAC has been phasing out 90s/2000s acts, so I hope that Rob doesn't fall victim to that. I do think that there's enough interest for new RT material to avoid that at least at the beginning, though.

If he is starting to use that effect, then that means he's starting to cater to Mainstream pop tarts. They love that effect on all their songs. It's almost like. if you don't use Autotune ; you don't get to enter the pop charts.

I had so many mixed feelings at first, likely due to the fact that this just wasn't something I'd ever expect from Rob Thomas. It wouldn't fit in on Something To Be stylistically, but it's much more energetic and edgy than Cradlesong, so I was thinking it was at least a step in the right direction. I found it catchy, but I also thought it didn't do anything to show off Rob's fantastic voice- especially with all the vocal processing in the verse. However, after an adjustment period of a few listens, I was able to fully enjoy the song for what it is. It's a total earworm and gives me "Love Runs Out" vibes, which I'm totally fine with. I'm really loving the chorus now. Rob has a certain rare quality to his voice, and I can hear it here too in the chorus. Might be able to in the verse as well if it wasn't for all the auto-tune. Which brings me to my next and final point: Ditch the auto-tune! Rob doesn't need it and it doesn't do anything to make the song more interesting. It's completely pointless in this case and all it's doing is dumbing down Rob's voice.

Wow, Atlantic has gone all out. Trust You had a banner up on iTunes last night. It will be interesting to see what happens with this. It has obviously met with mixed reaction from his core fans (love it or hate it). LOL! Rob is a smart cookie. He knows he is a radio guy. He needs radio to sell records so IMO this is his "radio" song with maybe a few others. I wish Rob had been a critics darling over the years and been "cool" and got invited to all the festivals but he didn't so maybe he felt that he had one more good pop record in him before he starts recording piano/jazz albums :) (I think he has one in him and apparently has a good jazz musician friend in New York that he wrote a song with so you never know ). So anyway, that's what I think. I'll be be-bobbing down the road to this song and just enjoy the beat and fast pace to it and not take it too seriously. :)
