I hope the buzz of her selling out concert dates will push radio programmers to consider this again!

#818 on iTunes. Was #883 earlier, but I don't think that matters as I doubt there is much of a difference between the two. Also, she really could've done with a shoutout here :(

Dude, this stuff goes on behind the scenes. The cumulus block adding this after it had gotten a shot, didn't take off, and then pulled, already means this has gotten a serious push by label. We have no idea the additional things they are doing, but if ANYTHING seems clear it's that they are really working it. Serious question that I hope doesn't sound silly, but is it safe to assume that a push to one block means a push all over, or is it possible that there is a difference in a push to Cumulus and a push to iHeart? I've seen this before where people will say 'oh, looks like the Cumulus block has added the song' but then after that there isn't a big update for a while (or ever) because the iHeart stations don't get on board at the same time. On the other hand you'll have songs that take off right away and it's because iHeart is on it so quickly, but even so, sometimes the Cumulus block creates a noticeable jump because those stations came in at once. My theory is that they put the song out before but the push was weak and it didn't take off, so they pulled it. Then they decided to come back again but still could only do so much, so put their efforts behind courting the Cumulus block, hoping that if it takes off there maybe other stations will see the good reception and follow suit on their own. I'm dubious of this happening. I don't think Carly has any bad will from anyone, but the sense of her being prematurely written off and having no one rooting for her at all is so overwhelming these days. I'm admittedly biased some here by my original thought, that this strikes me as Interscope blowing most or all of Carly's promotional budget on IRLY and now being stuck with a dud because they didn't line that one up right. Frankly if your budget is so tight that you can't afford one misfire you probably should wait until you can do more, but what do I know.

What I don't get is why would Interscope pull the track's listing from its internal promo site (PlayIGA) and AllAccess distribution and then not put it back if they were continuing to promote it? I don't see why they'd pull it and then push it just to Cumulus - I'd think that'd just waste money too. Hrm. I don't think it's implausible that they ran out of room in the budget (or explicitly chose not to make room, ceasing promo once the album was released) for her promo while they're trying to push higher-priority artists like Ellie and Selena, as you and others have said. I also don't think it's implausible (weird? maybe) that Cumulus just wasn't on board right away and then decided to add it without paying mind to the fact that Interscope had ended radio promo for it, but I'm leaning more skeptical like you are, thinking label influence was probably involved at some point.
Ah well. I will say that I hope, however foolishly, she takes a page from artists like Beach House and Drake and casually drops a second album soon "for the fans," since we know she has plenty of unreleased material.

I want Carly fans to remember something:
It doesn't REALLY matter how Emotion does, in the end -- all obvious considerations aside.
The problem with Call Me Maybe and Kiss is that it's going after a demographic that is extremely fickle. No matter how many essays one writes about WHY there were image problems Carly Rae Jepsen has and an inability for them to establish a musical identity that connected with people, it happened. Emotion is Carly Rae Jepsen starting all over again.
You can't have a dedicated fanbase if people aren't really digging your music. You can't sell albums, you can't sell tour tickets, you can't build a career. There were a few people who definitely really dug Kiss, but it didn't garner any acclaim or sustain CRJ as an artist. It kind of appeared, and just dropped off the map. Emotion has stayed in the consciousness of people that have heard it, and that's already a huge accomplishment over Kiss. One of the best articles I saw reviewing Emotion called it "artisanal pop" -- and it's true, and it's why they marketed it in places like the East Village, Williamsburg, and Bushwick. (Carly even had a signing in Williamsburg.)
(There's this weird disconnect with them pushing Carly to pop radio but the material itself is geared toward an age group that are a bit older than the teen girls who listen to pop radio. As catchy as Carly's music is, and broad of an appeal as it can have, pop radio is not the format where a song gets plays just because it's really, really good. I think they should have tried Run Away With Me, Emotion, Let's Get Lost, Gimmie Love on Hot AC -- those are the people who recognize the quality in this level of pop music, and older people are more likely to buy albums!)
At the same time, Emotion is the kind of album that makes people fans of and CHECK for new Carly Rae Jepsen music, in a way that transcended online pop forums. That's way more important than album sales, and even more important than radio hits. This album has garnered her fans in a way that can keep snowballing if she keeps releasing this level of quality material.
So even if no other song from this album cracks the charts, this was a super important step. People are passionate about it. I Really Like You still did really well worldwide, she's still a name, she still has international marketability. As long as those things stay in place, even if Interscope stuff doesn't totally work out, that's all that matters.
The more she goes in that weirdo Warm Blood indie-pop direction, the more all of that other stuff doesn't f*cking matter, because people will respond to it.

Can't Interscope re-push this or something? Getting it on the Cumulus block was a great idea but now it seems to be faltering...

What Do You Mean? quite frankly is one of the most boring, uninspiring generic songs I've ever heard but that's just me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ While this isn't my favorite from Carly, I think the songwriting alone makes it one of the year's best pop songs. If this fails to connect, I just want at least one more attempt preferably with "Your Type". Your Type is quite possibly the last song on the album I would release. The hit potential is non-existent. But best of luck to that dream... I hate to break it to you but...

Nothing on the album is going to hit at this point but Your Type is what I would pick as the next single, in terms of radio friendliness.

It's going to do absolutely nothing, but yay! Also secretly hoping for Favourite Colour as some the most random single release ever because that song is amazing.

Wow, I couldn't disagree more with that choice but it pretty much is irrelevant at this point. Although there is something to be said about Let's Get Lost's big hook. It is probably the most natural fit for CHR on the album, even though it's not one of my personal favorites.

Let's Get Lost is perfect for Hot AC. I just don't understand why they can't grasp that this album is for adult fans of pop music, not teeny boppers.

How did this do in the UK? Last I heard it had been added by all the big radio stations, and it seemed like it was on its way to becoming a hit. Haven't heard anything since.

That's such a shame. Not sure what happened after it got added by Capital FM. It had been in the upper 20s on iTunes.
