I Didn't Just Come Here To Dance is the only song from the album I can see as a contemporary hit, but she has no momentum by now and they blew a lot of money on IRLY. Your Type would have potential too if it didn't sounds as 80s as it did.
I really like LA Hallucinations too, but it's not really a strong single.

The sites I was checking only posted IRLY and CMM so I was under the impression that's all she performed. Very happy she sang the new single. Adore the album. She has some really good material to work with here. Gimme Love needs to happen. |

I feel like pop radio in general has been very weird lately.
There are songs by established artists that have CRAWLED for weeks on end. And it feels like it's nigh impossible for new acts to break through -- and the one or two that do randomly get crazy lopsided radio support that isn't necessarily related at all to sales.
Pop radio has really changed.

Pop radio has really changed. Not sure about that whole new acts are impossible to break through right now. Half of the top ten right now is occupied by artists who never had a top ten before. In fact, most of the artists in the top 40 have only been around on the CHR charts for a year or less. It's the established acts that are more MIA right now. As for Carly, as unfortunate as it is to say I just don't think this is really an album with hit songs. It's an album with fantastic songs. But very few sound like what you would hear on the radio right now. Many of the songs are just great pop songs, but not necessarily hit pop songs. I think this is one of those. In hindsight I think their best bet at a hit would have been Emotion as the lead single. It would have been the perfect Spring/early Summer song. I can see why they went with IRLY though, because it has the most obvious hook on the album. But I feel like Emotion could've fit the season so much better and maybe been able to go top 20 at least. |

Yea there are plenty of new artists right now. Can you imagine Rachel Patten as a staple? lol. Not unless she brings something to offer for single #2. Meghan Trainor pulled it off.
I just wish the video for IRLY would've been as simplistic as let's say Teenage Dream and not so cringeworthy desperate. That really killed things.

The video isn't really setting YouTube on fire either. In fact, I just watched it tonight and it felt like the producers didn't know what to do with her. The treatment was awful. It was like them saying "ok how can we take up 3min 45 sec of video time with you? Let's have you run thru a bubble. That will take up 20 sec of footage." I'm not sure if she wants to be a big star or not, but if she does, she has to come harder than that, imo. Especially if you're not going to be sexy, funny, fashionable, original, etc. |

I can't even tell you exactly why it doesn't to me, just mainly that it doesn't sound at all like anything CHR has been spinning this year. The whole album definitely continues that retro 80's vibe of Kiss, and unfortunately that kind of sound just isn't happening right now. Also the hooks on most of these songs aren't big and in your face (except maybe IRLY), which can always be a problem on CHR. Not that they aren't catchy, just that it's more subtle and nuanced. And that can definitely be a bad thing for un-established artists on the format. |
