Artist: Alan Jackson Single: "Jim And Jack And Hank" Writers: Alan Jackson Album: Angels And AlcoholLabel: EMI Nashville/Alan's Country Records Add Date: July 6th, 2015 Source: Rolling StoneSource #2: WBEERolling Stone says this is Alan's new single off his upcoming Angels & Alcohol album due out next month. WBEE just put it up in their "Music Meeting Song of the Day" this afternoon which makes me confident this is getting a radio release just before the album is out (ala Chris Stapleton and Traveller). Numerous sites today starting touting this as Alan's latest release. This will likely do nothing anyway at radio but that doesn't change the fact this song is awesome and vintage Alan. Can't wait for the album.

Sabre14, I love you for just starting an Alan Jackson thread. Hopefully, EMI can do something with it!

This song is great. Alan Jackson...if radio was smart, they'd still be playing him. I guess "You Go Your Way" came just a couple years too late, because that song had "#1 smash" written all over it.
I'm thinking that this will at least chart. It's been a little while since AJ sent a song to radio, so hopefully this can get on the chart and maybe approach top 40. I won't hold my breath that it'll get any higher than that, but in a perfect world, it would (it'd go all the way to #1 in a perfect world).

This is so good! Talk about an addicting song! I am so happy right now :) I am 100% in Alan's camp for this one.

I definitely hear it too. The vocal arrangement is basically identical. Listen to them back to back and you'll probably hear the similarities as well.

All three singles from Thirty Miles West should have been #1s.

This is definitely great. If radio weren't so insistent on phasing older acts like him and George out, I could see this being a hit. I'd like to see it at least make Top 40 or so though, like maybe at least a little better than how "Let It Go" just did for George Strait, please.

I see maybe top 40 on this which is unfortunate because Alan has some great material, especially in the last 5 years. Stupid radio and their resistance on people over age 50 and females. If a song is great, then it should be able to played!

This song is quite good. Alan's voice though is kind of rough on it (which is something that I've noticed since his feature on "As She's Walking Away").
I don't expect this to hit regardless, but I can see why it would be in a bit of trouble. I'd be pretty shocked if it broke the top 50.

An absolute masterpiece which once upon a time would have meant a very brisk 6-8 week run to #1 and at least a month in the penthouse.
Pathetically and dishearteningly those days are long gone; his best single since that tasty morsel of sheer perfection in some corners known as 'Small Town Southern Man', which should been the #1 single of the year of 2008 in a landslide IMHO.

The "Achy Breaky Heart" similarities had me worried about this song, but thankfully that fear has been subdued. This song is fantastic and truly the definition of a "fun" song. Most artists these days send out fluffy songs that have nothing whatsoever redeemable in the lyrics and then try to pass it off as just an innocent "fun" song, but Alan truly does it the right way with this. This won't do jack on "country" radio but who cares? Alan doesn't need it at his stage in the game anyway.

I LOVE this. It is pure Alan. I am happy to have pre-ordered the new album. Granted the new single and album in general have both gotten very little promotion. That is to be expected though. If radio is hit with songs from Alan, Kacey, Easton, and Ashley, that are more traditional...I would like to hope that it would garner more airplay for these type of songs. I could be dreaming of a country radio that never will be again. Ugh! Good, good stuff here.

^ I actually enjoy "Achy Breaky Heart" anyway, so I personally don't care. :)
For the record though, I like "Jim And Jack And Hank" better.

Love this song. The last 30 seconds will get old though for me. The same way the it did in, "Five O'Clock Somewhere" did with his conversation with Jimmy Buffett.

I'm honestly not an Alan Jackson fan, but I do love this. It's perfectly catchy and I think he sounds good on the studio recording. (VERY unpopular opinion here, but I've never been a fan of his vocals, especially in the later years.)

As much as it pains me to admit it , this does have a similar melody to "Achy Breaky Heart".... and probably another dozen or so old 50's Rock songs. That being said , I never took issue with the melody or music of "Achy Breaky" , it was those dumb ass lyrics that made it poison to me. Love this & love how Alan's voice has aged. The deeper register only sounds better to my ears!

The last 30 seconds will get old though for me. The same way the it did in, "Five O'Clock Somewhere" did with his conversation with Jimmy Buffett. The entirety of "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere" got old, since it was played 500,000 times too many. I also love the first inclusion of "sparkling water" into a country song's lyrics, at least the first that I've heard, lol.

It's a pleasure to hear this song. I'm not saying country radio should ONLY play music like this -- I'm only asking for 25% of the airplay. And I can be negotiated down from that -- but why does it have to be "none at all"? AJ is still among the best. Ever.

Confirmed as Alan's latest single in Country Aircheck this evening. Ad stated that this will be "going for immediate airplay", so expect the unofficial add date to be July 6th which was on the UMG website.

WATZ played it last night. Those guys are on the ball.
I think that AJ's voice has gotten a bit weaker — he sounded like garbage on "Long Way to Go" — but he seems to have restored a bit here. I can hear a bit of "Achy Breaky Heart" but also a litle "I Like Girls That Drink Beer". Good stuff that has a bit of a "novelty" to it but doesn't seems like it'll wear off quickly. Of course, getting an artist who's over 50 into the Top 40 anymore is wishful thinking (ohai George Strait)...
