While I love reading reviews, I find you pretty linient on grading. Aside from a grade of 'C' you gave In This Moment(that song was pretty bad); you pretty much like everything so far. Still it makes for interesting reading. Besides, I've mentioned this to you before. so "I'll Be back"

Mess Is Mine
Vance Joy
From: Dream Your Life Away
Listen here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=1C816p-KTNk
Alternative Peak: #6, Chart Run: 30 weeks
Triple A Peak: #4, Chart Run: 22 weeksReview: So yeah. I talked about "Riptide" 3 months ago, it was a fun song, though I am a bit burnt out of it as the shopping centre where my church is (yes, you read that right) plays it frequently. Thankfully, this song isn't as overplayed, and at the same time, is also better in my opinion. The song starts off quietly, but when it reaches the chorus, it builds up. I just really like the instrumentation in this song, and the lyrics are meaningful too. A

Black Sun
Death Cab for Cutie
From: Kintsugi
Listen here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTbVIfqeDq0
Alternative Peak: #2, Chart Run: 21 weeks
Triple A Peak: #1, Chart Run: 20 weeksReview: I've always loved Ben Gibbard's vocals, which is one of the most distinct voices on adult alternative and alternative radio right now. This song, the lead single from their eighth album (which is also their final one with guitarist Chris Walla), is no exception. The song, which is possibly related to Gibbard's break-up with actress Zooey Deschanel, finds the protagonist unable to find forgiveness with his ex. This sad ballad is great in my opinion, with the simple instrumentation and Ben's vocals. This song spent a week at no. 1 on my chart. I'll recommend this. A

Hollow Moon (Bad Wolf)
AWOLNATION
From: Run
Listen here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2PsXT88UeU
Alternative Peak: #1, Chart Run: 20 weeks
Mainstream Rock Peak: #12, Chart Run: 20 weeksReview: I think almost anyone would have heard of "Sail", which has and still is a staple on Alternative radio right now. Streaming helped the song peak higher on the Hot 100 in 2013. Coming off a successful era which included the success of "Sail", two other top 10 alternative hits and an album that had great longevity and went Gold, AWOLNATION released the lead single for their sophomore album and it didn't disappoint. From the aggressiveness of frontman Aaron Bruno's vocals (particularly in the bridge) to the great guitar work and catchy (though a bit repetitive) chorus, "Hollow Moon" has all the ingredients a hit on alternative has. A+

All That Remains
From: The Order of Things
Listen here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_O003Cvwlc
Mainstream Rock Peak: #11, Chart Run: 19 weeksReview: Metalcore band All That Remains had a successful era with "A War You Cannot Win", with two top 2 singles on the Active Rock chart. One year later, they released this as the lead single for their 2015 album. The lyrics are meaningful and the instrumentation is great (though generic). But there's something missing in this song that prevents it from standing out from the rest of the chart. B-

AAA Peak: #25, Chart Run: 6 weeksReview: Here we are with the second Foo Fighters single from "Sonic Highways". While it isn't as explosive as SFN, it's still has the energy of a typical Foo Fighters song, and that's a very good thing. A+

Alternative Peak: #16, Chart Run: 20 weeks
Mainstream Rock Peak: #1, Chart Run: 20 weeksReview: Here's the first Offspring single since 2012. It's catchy, but it does have some dumb lyrics. Nonetheless, it's The Offspring, who've always created catchy jams such as this, right? B+

Bent to Fly
Slash featuring Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators
From: World On Fire
Listen here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwjHcUNQpuc
Mainstream Rock Peak: #3, Chart Run: 28 weeksReview: Here we are with our (only) Slash single. You'll know him as a former guitarist of the metal band Guns N' Roses. The vocalist of this song is Myles Kennedy of Alter Bridge. And I must say, I'm not very impressed. It's generic rock. The lyrics are pretty good, but the instrumentation should be better. It may be a bit hard to differentiate this from a lot of the other hard rock songs out there. Skip it. C+

Drown
Bring Me the Horizon
From: That's the Spirit
Listen here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkV5709EG5M
Mainstream Rock Peak: #8, Chart Run: 23 weeksReview: Bring Me the Horizon are a metalcore band who broke out in 2013 with their album "Sempiternal", which is approaching the 300k mark in the US. And with "That's the Spirit", a change in direction to post-hardcore music, they released this as the lead single (it was originally released as a single-only release, but was re-recorded to be in the album). The album debuted at the top of the album charts (we'll talk about "Throne" later). This song is already an indicator of what BMTH's new material was to be, with the guitar work being noticably softer, and the lyrics less anger-driven. I've honestly heard better from the band, but my favorite single from them is "Can You Feel My Heart" from their last album. Passable, but yeah, I've heard better. B-

Triple A Peak: #1, Chart Run: 20 weeksReview: After 4 years, Florence Welch and company have decided to release new material. I didn't care much for "Dog Days Are Over", but "Shake It Off" was brilliant. As is this song, with Welch's powerful vocals and an epic chorus. A-

From: Turn Blue
Listen here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=euzfvcjwqf4
AAA Peak: #11, Chart Run: 16 weeks
Alternative Peak: #16, Chart Run: 20 weeks
Mainstream Rock Peak: #21, Chart Run: 13 weeksReview: As I mentioned earlier, "Turn Blue" was an album that almost took a U-Turn for a Black Keys album. And that's not good. This is one of the tracks that has little relevance to garage rock. Instead, I get seven minutes of guitar work and vocals from Dan Auerbach. The guitar solo at the start and end is quite good, but I miss the Black Keys that brought me "Tighten Up". Or "Little Black Submarines". There's no tempo change. And when you have better tracks on that album, like "10 Lovers" and "It's Up to You Now", which are shorter and catchier, and you send this instead? I'm sorry... no. I will discuss about Auerbach's side-project later, which was more Black Keys-like compared to "Turn Blue". Grade: C+

Believe
Mumford & Sons
From: Wilder Mind
Listen here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=dW6SkvErFEE
Alternative Peak: #1, Chart Run: 21 weeks
Triple A Peak: #1, Chart Run: 20 weeksReview: Here's another band who took a complete 360 and changed their sound, after The Black Keys and Bring Me the Horizon. But in this case, you can clearly tell that M&S have changed their sound; there's no banjos. Instead, they're replaced by electric guitars. That's not to say that the song is bad though, because I like Marcus Mumford's voice, and the instrumentation is decent too. However, the chorus is a bit repetitive. I'll take this, but fans of folkier M&S will be disappointed. B+

Some great songs in these last few reviews. I agree, Bent To Fly should've had better guitar work. I love Mumford's new sound, but I think TBK's was only for the one album.

I love Mumford's new sound, but I think TBK's was only for the one album. Hopefully, I believe that album was done in that way because Auerbach got divorced in 2013.

First Kiss
Kid Rock
From: First Kiss
Listen here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTCnno-3EGE
Mainstream Rock Peak: #16, Chart Run: 17 weeksReview: Wait.... What is a country song doing on the active rock charts? Putting that aside, this is veteran rocker Kid Rock's latest single, which is another venture into country rock, just like "All Summer Long" and "Born Free". And just like these two songs, they impacted several other charts as well; Hot AC, AC and Country. This song it's good, with the feel good lyrics and instrumentation, which is more 'country' than several other artists on country radio (Sam Hunt, Thomas Rhett, etc.) However, this feels more like a country song than a rock song. B+ as a song itself, C- as a rock song.

Mainstream Rock Peak: #11, Chart Run: 14 weeksReview: Incubus' comeback wasn't very successful. They signed to Island Records, but the lead single from their latest EP flopped, and dropped like a rock after it peaked on both alternative and active. The EP didn't sell well either, as it likewise, took a nose dive in sales after debuting on the album charts. To be honest, I was stanning for this song when it first came out. I've always liked Brandon Boyd's vocals, and the build-up at the end of the song is great too. But this burnt out on me and I can't be bothered to defend it anymore, probably due to the instrumentation that blended in influences from electronic music. I've heard better from them to be honest. A (before burn out), B (after burn out)

Angel
Theory of a Deadman
From: Savages
Listen here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfpVOAC-y0
Mainstream Rock Peak: #2, Chart Run: 25 weeksReview: Theory of a Deadman's "Savages" era initially didn't start well. "Drown" underperformed to some extent compared to their last two lead singles (even though it was something different from them), and the title track missed the top 20. Then they released this as the third single. I must say, this is my favorite TOAD single since either "Drown" or "Hurricane" (another ballad). The song is a power ballad about a man who has to end a relationship for good. I'm a sucker for ballads, so I tend to give them higher ratings... and this is no exception. Great instrumentation and great vocals from Tyler Connolly (especially in the chorus). I'll take this. A

I'm actually pleasantly surprised that I didn't hate "Angel" or "First Kiss". TOAD ballads really make me angry, for some reason, and Kid Rock...well...is Kid Rock, but those songs aren't THAT bad. "Every Other Freckle", though...yeesh. And I appreciate showing me every other song, Daryl, but I'm more than content to wait to post my star ratings until the songs are posted, just to keep things consistent.

Take It Back
The Temperance Movement
From: The Temperance Movement'

Mainstream Rock Peak: #7, Chart Run: 20 weeksReview: Here's another song that burnt off me. I was initially hooked on to the song when I first heard the chorus. Anyways, this song is by the British band The Temperance Movement, and is two years old. It's a mix of rock and roll and blues rock, which is good as I like both genres. But it just somehow worn out of me. Well, like Absolution Calling, I like it less now, but still a decent song. B+, and A before burnout.

Heavy Is the Head
Zac Brown Band featuring Chris Cornell
From: JEKYLL + HYDE
Listen here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfWiAuJVKqM
Mainstream Rock Peak: #1, Chart Run: 21 weeksReview: And wait.... isn't Zac Brown Band a country band? Yes, that is true, but with their fourth album, they decided to experiment, attempting to blend in rock, r&b, jazz, EDM and blues into the songs. This was two of the 'rock' songs of the album, and with the assistance of Soundgarden and Audioslave vocalist Chris Cornell, the song topped the Active charts. This was honestly one of the better tracks on the album. Both Cornell and Brown sound great, and the guitar solos are pretty cool too. This indeed feels more like a rock song than a country one, so I can see why this definitely didn't get sent to country radio (cough cough, "The Outsiders"...) "Junkyard" later became an undeserved flop, freefalling days after it peaked. A
