In a perfect world, this would be an AOTY contender at the Grammys. I haven't even read the reactions here on Pulse. #here4StephenONLY but I am legit stunned, amazed, bewildered...etc. I was gonna say it was a tie with Blown Away as her best but I think I will rank it above that album and I am only on The Girl You Think I Am. The ONLY thing I am missing is a #LICKIT! moment but I am beyond impressed by the nuance in the vocals, THE. DRUMS., the emotion, the lyrics in some songs....um...WHAT IS CHOCTAW COUNTRY AFFAIR?! Songs 6-11 are probably some of the best sequencing that I heard on an album in quite a long time but Mexico comes along and rocks my soul like the 80s or something. I might need to see her live now. Edit: Stephen YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

Carrie just followed Easton Corbin on Twitter, seemingly out of the blue. He never tweeted her or anything. Tour opener...?

Heartbeat would be a great second single. It's a great change of pace and all of the other obvious single choices have very similar themes.

Heartbeat Stripped>>>>>>>Heartbeat. The stripped version, ironically, makes the album version sound basic.

Lengthy video interview from Canada. Has she mentioned before that she was almost named Stacey Underwood?? And I didn't know she was THAT huge of a Cowboys fan when she was young.

Something interesting I forgot to mention. At the iHeartRadio concert the other night, Bobby Bones said Carrie has sold 58 million records when he introduced her before she came out (he may have said 56, can't quite remember). But at the iHeartRadio concert for the Greatest Hits album last December, she was introduced as having sold 64 million records. Can someone clarify?

I think individually she may have sold 56 or 58 million records as a solo artist, but as an artist (featuring/duet/etc) she may have 64? Just a guess... not sure. It gets confusing when they inflate numbers like that.

Yeah, that sort of things happens with all artists. I think it depends on what things are included, of course, but also if going by actual sales versus certifications. And then some people just do better research. I think the most 'official' stats are when they are included in an official press release.

I really love the conversational element of "Relapse"... I loved "Relapse" at first, but it's growing on me even more. The buildup to the chorus is EVERYTHING! "Chaser" is growing on me too, the climax of the song is incredible --- her vocal runs are impeccable. I love how these two songs feel so reminiscent of "Some Hearts", does anyone else feel that way about these two songs?

I know they are not country, but they are GREAT songs, and that's what matters to me. Both have strong and mature lyrics, that I can relate to (and I'm sure a lot of people can as well), and a great melody. Those are my favorite songs from Storyteller as of now.

Smoke Break certainly didn't help her but she has some singles that I think can propel this to near platinum when all is said and done.

Yeah, the underperformance of SB in the sales & streaming departments didn't do this album any favors. Glad it'll at least likely hit 150k, and I'm hoping it trends upwards as the week progresses.

I agree, the follow up singles will help in sales in the long term. Damn, you just can't beat those boy bands of the day. It seems pop music will generally outsell country artist initially. In the long term, it might be different.

Let's hope it goes higher since it's based on "very, very early reads..."
Carrie Underwood. 4th Quarter. I'd think 250k would be easy.

I said the same thing: If Storyteller ended up at #2, then i'll be fine as long as it debuted with over 185k. Considering the buzz for Storyteller, it had better open north of 250,000.

I wonder if that early estimate does or doesn't include opening day sales? Like... How could they possibly know so soon? Is it maybe based more on pre-orders and promotion schedule? I have a bit of a hunch she'll come much closer to 200k than that, but we'll see!

I have a bit of a hunch she'll come much closer to 200k than that, but we'll see! It was posted today, so they would have opening day numbers, no? "Smoke Break" may not be huge, but each Carrie album from Carnival Ride to now has sold less than the previous one in its 1st week and overall (in large part because sales in general keep falling). In other words, this was never going to approach the 267k opening of Blown Away. Is it the largest opening week for a female artist in 2015 to this point? I can't remember who all has released an album this year, and Adele will obviously end up with the largest opening of anyone, but Carrie's total is still above more mainstream female acts like Kelly Clarkson, Selena Gomez, and Demi Lovato.

^ Not sure if they get their data that fast to predict, or if they're basing their estimates off information they had before the official release? Based on their uncertainty, it would seem they didn't have a ton of data to use for their predictions... But I'm probably just reading into it too much.
Also, looks like if #1 doesn't happen this week, Carrie at least has a shot next week. It doesn't look like there are any huge releases... And Carrie does have the CMAs... Could be interesting.

I just discovered that Jason White, who wrote "Choctaw County Affair," wrote Tim McGraw's "Red Rag Top." I love that song. He also co-wrote "Ain't It Enough," which is a great Old Crow Medicine show song. I hope Carrie searches out more of his songs in the future.

Put me in the boat who LOVES "Chaser" and "Relapse"!
Also, why didn't Carrie just wait to release her album till next week? Number 1 would've been on lock...

She'd be too harassed doing full promo for the album while simultaneously preparing to host the CMA Awards. We all know how much work she and Brad+David put into that. Maybe it's just me but it was a given for me that she wouldn't release the same sales week as the CMA Awards. Plus, it's a prime opportunity to have 2 weeks of promo.
That HDD prediction is in line with what I expected based on the performance of Smoke Break. What's awesome is how close she is to 5SOS. I have a bit of hope she might edge them out in the albums chart if not in SPS.

This is probably true, but IMO it wasn't smart. The CMAs are bigger promo than anything else she is doing. She would have been better off just having that opening week and then doing the other things into the next week. She could have still had 2 weeks of promo.
