Whoa, I liked that performance waaaay better than I ever thought I would. Whew, that was hot! Carrie and Sam have serious chemistry. There were moments of intense eye contact from Carrie where I was like "Yeah, girl, you're making me feel something something." I've never seen that from her before even when singing the supposedly passionate "Remind Me" with Brad. Great performance and the first time I've truly enjoyed a live performance of Heartbeat.

Oh, and SLAYBEAT is #1 on country itunes now. Unless "SLAYBEAT" is a reference to "Girl Crush" (#7 all-genre at iTunes) and not "Heartbeat," this is incorrect. Still, #17 all-genre for "Heartbeat" and #2 country represents a solid enough bounce on a night when not a lot of the performances moved the needle on the singles chart (to be fair, there were a lot of tribute performances and the bounces will be concentrated on albums for many of the performers; Carrie's Storyteller is #28 all-genre at iTunes). The Carrie/Sam performance went about as well as could have been hoped; Carrie actually sounded very good on "Take Your Time" and did well on "Heartbeat," (just slightly off on the first "drive," but otherwise completely on pitch) and while Sam sounded fine on "Take Your Time" and his "Heartbeat" harmonies, his solo lines on "Heartbeat" were delivered without any of the finesse that they need (and that Carrie brings). I was puzzled as to why Carrie and Sam had chosen to dress down until I read the USA Today commentary that Typo posted and now I get it (and I do think their outfits were purposeful, because for all of his other shortcomings, I do think that Sam is like Carrie in that they both generally have visions for the presentation of their performances). I thought the experience gap between Carrie and Sam really showed in the performance; he seemed to really lean on her for cues, so it was on Carrie to make the duet believable. And she did. I think I would have preferred a more acoustic arrangement of both songs to complement the character in Carrie's phrasing, but at least her voice wasn't drowned out by the instruments. The general reception of the performance seems pretty good and where there is criticism (in the country blogosphere and media), it is (rightfully) being directed at Sam for his vocals. But from the point of view of knowing what Carrie can deliver with the right song, especially on a stage like the Grammys, obviously this medley was going to leave something to be desired. Here's hoping that potential is realized at next year's Grammys.

Love the duet. That was hot!
I actually would have loved to hear a full duet on Take Your Time. Carrie sounded fantastic on the song.
And I really love the new hairstyle. Makes her look younger, fresher. So glad she finally ditched the long curls/extensions after so long.

I loved the performance. Loved it when Sam Hunt took the second verse of "Heartbeat", actually, and I'd be up for a new duet version of the song in that style, even though I know that won't happen. Great job all around! Not disappointed with the loss. The 2 singles from her greatest hits set both ended up getting nominated for a Grammy, with one of them winning, lol. That's huge. Stapleton deserved the wins.

Not really. I'm also uncomfortable, especially since I think Carrie would be offended by such suggestions.

Overall I really liked the performance last night. I'm not a Sam Hunt fan, nor am I huge fan of "Heartbeat," but I was pleasantly surprised - I think Sam and "Take Your Time" added a lot to the performance. Plus, I think they had great chemistry together, although you can tell Carrie is the more experienced performer. Their voices, especially Sam's, sound a lot shakier on this mic feed live vocals track, though: www.youtube.com/watch?v=1q9Td9RYAUo. You can tell he's much more comfortable singing his own song than he is with "Heartbeat". Wish I could find a decent quality video of the TV version.

I've never seen that from her before even when singing the supposedly passionate "Remind Me" with Brad. Great performance and the first time I've truly enjoyed a live performance of Heartbeat. I have to concur last night's rendition of "Heartbeat" was way more intense than any performance of "Remind Me," and agree with dudley that it was definitely Carrie who took the lead in carrying the chemistry in that performance, as Sam seemed a little intimidated at the beginning and the nature of the "Take Your Time" lyrics had him walking away at points. I think Carrie's experience with The Sound of Music Live helped some in projecting romance on camera with a scene partner. While her chemistry with Stephen Moyer wasn't off the charts, I actually thought their fun, flirty interpretation of "Something Good" made it more believable that the characters genuinely liked each other compared to the more angsty take in the movie, which I always thought was weird. Carrie definitely aced projecting "sultry" in the mashup and there were tons of headlines saying how Carrie/Sam were hot/sexy and melted the screen and what not, and it's good for her career to show the public that she has more dimensions as a performer than the "goody goody" religious girl and "sassy" rocker persona. The duet definitely created more of an impression than her other live performances of "Heartbeat," which were nice but not that interesting in terms of rewatch value. I have personally rewatched TYT/HB more than any of her award show performances probably since BA/2BC on the Grammys a few years back because it's just fun to see something different and not predictable. As far as sales, compared to her past award show performances, I think it had a bigger iTunes impact than most of her other Grammy performances, certainly "Last Name, "Before He Cheats," and "Two Black Cadillacs" and maybe on par with "Blown Away" (I'm still bitter she didn't do a full version of that haunting, acapella, chorus raised by an octave "Blown Away" that could have been a real "moment" instead of having everyone distracted by the light up dress in 2BC, BTW ![](http://yoursmiles.org/ssmile/fun/s0244.gif) ), although "Heartbeat" started with a higher baseline since it's closer to airplay peak than the others were so it's not an apples to apples comparison.

Eh. So far it isn't even being predicted to sell 20k for the week. With sales then declining again next week, that's a long crawl to platinum. Of course streaming being added to certs now will make a big difference. Hopefully she has a killer ACMs performance that really gets some attention (calling for "Choctaw County Affair" with her playing harmonica!).

"Heartbeat" may be #1 on the next Billboard Hot Country Songs chart considering its sales spike from the Grammys, its top 5 placement on radio, and the fact that it's outpacing the others in the top 5 in sales at the moment. So it'd be another Billboard-certified #1, which would be nice, even though it's the hybrid chart.

The tour (she has to be nominated for EOTY, right...?) and IMO the best songs on the album have yet to be released and she's at 500k already.

I said this yesterday in the "Heartbeat" thread, but apparently it isn't as likely as it would seem to us common folk... Lol. Dudley had a bit to say on the subject, if you want to take a look. I'll add today, for what it's worth, that the Grammy performance did result in an increase in "Heartbeat"'s daily Spotify streams and we have a little bit more idea now of the streaming gap between Thomas Rhett's "Die a Happy Man" (which has been picking up 195K-200K daily streams so far this week), Sam Hunt's "Break Up in a Small Town" (which picked up around 156K streams yesterday; I thought I had seen it in the 130-140K range previously) and "Heartbeat," which picked up about 117K streams yesterday. I had been seeing "Heartbeat"'s daily streams in the 105-120K range for a while now but figured something was off because "Heartbeat" didn't show up in the overall Spotify daily top-200 until today. The number I just picked up from Carrie's Storyteller page at Spotify suggests that daily streams spiked to almost 150K today (with a little bit of spillover onto other tracks), but we'll see if that's what Spotify tallies for its chart. Obviously, closing the streaming gap would help "Heartbeat"'s case on Hot Country Songs. We'll see how it goes. Regardless, the Grammy performance seems to have done its job.
