Zac Brown Band's Greatest Hits is on sale this week on Google Play for .99 cents.
It features all of their hits minus the horrible Drug song...er...I mean.... it features all of their hits.

After Luke Bryan passes them today or tomorrow, that will still love them some 800 spins behind Brad Paisley.
I agree--this tune is in trouble and faces a real tough road in rising on the charts from here on out.

There's a version available from them that is the "country version" which I've moved to. Still has an EDM feel to it, but it's just less EDM in production value. Makes me less queezy about the spins I'm giving it for sure.

This is a great pop song, imo. The dancey beat will probably get this to top 10 in Pop in 2010-2012 when Luke/Guetta sound is dominating. But sending this to Country radio is a terrible idea. Should've try a double release with something else (Preferably Dress Blues, liks I say, never been really into Country, but damn, that thing is fantastic) for Country and this for Pop.

That version really doesn't do anything to make it not an EDM song. It strips it down a bit and the fiddle is nice during the vocal solo. You can tell a difference but sheesh. ZBB should be borderline embarassed when they have to send out a country remix of a song they released to country radio.

I really like the country version. Is it official? It came from Southern Ground. They aren't pushing it... I got the link from another PD, so they may be wanting to keep it DL, not sure. I just up'd it to my dropbox and will be removing soon...

Every since djHayStack posted the "country version" on this thread, that's the version I've been hearing on my local country radio stations. It must be getting around. Hearing that version on country radio is much more pleasant.

Are they making this new "country version" commercially available?

I think I actually prefer the more EDM sounding version if I'm being honest. This new "Country" version does sound less offensive for radio though. I'd imagine the version they play live in concert is more like the new country version?

I finally got around to listening to this (haven't heard it on radio yet and I don't really seek out ZBB on purpose), and omg I think this song is horrible. It's not even a very enjoyable pop song. It sounds like an Avicii reject. Nothing about it works for me at all. And the country version makes it only slightly more tolerable, but it's still messy song, imo. This isn't the type of music ZBB should be making, especially if they're only going to even send it to country radio anyway.

I'm not the biggest fan of "Beautiful Drug", but I've always enjoyed it somewhat. The problem for me has always been the production, and the fact that a barely-country song was released to radio instead of a song like "Dress Blues" or "Bittersweet". I think the country version works really well; it still has a strong EDM sound to it, but the intro music with the fiddle, banjo, and acoustic guitar sounds wonderful. I feel like I can actually root for the song now, now that many radio stations are playing the new version.
The song is selling really well too, having cracked the top 60 on the iTunes all-genre chart this morning.

Zac Brown Band released "Christmas Tree" to iTunes and Spotify on December 11. It's just "Mango Tree", but 'mango' is replaced with 'Christmas' each time.

It seems like this song is catching a second wind. I think radio wanted to hold this one back, but the sales have been so consistent they can't really pretend like this isn't a decent hit. Currently at #46 on iTunes All-Genre chart, and its been moving up slowly. The past two weeks have seen this song gain pretty well in airplay and its now a lock for the top 10. I don't know many more weeks they can push this for, but Top 5 even seems like a possibility now.

I think you're right about radio wanting to hold it back a bit (probably because of its EDM sound), but the country-er version is getting played by a lot of stations now, and of course radio promotion is transitioning over to Dot Records as we speak (it was supposed to go over to Dot on February 1, but it appears it's started earlier). And with strong sales and no real "issues" when it comes to listener feedback, I just don't see any way that this won't be able to move through the top 10 and find its way toward the top before all is said and done.

Do you think it might have too many weeks already though? ZBB are certainly an A-list act these days, and anything over 20 weeks is usually a little long in the tooth. This one is already at 19 weeks old, and won't enter the top 10 until the 20th or 21st week. Seems like Rhett will get a 6th week at #1 on BB this coming week, with Luke probably next in line for at least 2 weeks. Not sure if Sam Hunt will be able to stay in high rotation enough to get his week at #1 (could see BUIAST getting blocked from the #1 if Luke and his team are aggressive enough). Then Zac and crew would still have Granger, Kelsea, and Randy all out front and the almost guaranteed #1 "Break On Me", not to mention Carrie is still neck and neck. If we assume "Beautiful Drug" can hold off Carrie, and lets say only 2 out of the trio of Granger, Kelsea, and Randy hit #1, that would still take us to the 26th week on the chart. I guess that's not too old by that point, but that scenario is also assuming everything goes right for "Beautiful Drug", which would still have to post consistent gains itself.

I think "weeks on the chart" is starting to mean less and less. I agree with you that A-listers aren't likely to start spending 25-30 weeks on the chart, but if a song is researching decently well with little to no fatigue, I don't think it matters as much if it spends a few extra weeks on the chart, or if it lasts a month longer than that artist's singles typically do. A few years ago it definitely would have mattered, but nowadays I just don't think it does. It takes longer to break new artists, and I think this might lead to an occasional single from a more established act charting a bit longer than it normally would (basically because a higher percentage of the chart is comprised of older songs from newer artists...this can result in an A-lister or B-lister's single taking a few extra weeks to get slotted into the next rotation "tier").

I heard the 'country' version on my station too and it caught my ear; it took me a minute to realize 'why do I like this'-I used to hate it, lol.
My first love is Rock/uptempo songs before I got into Country so I really enjoy this, especially as a song I could run to.
They took just enough of the electronically altered voices/ noise out that I enjoy it-would buy if available (gonna check iTunes)

Have to hand it to the Zac Brown Band. They got this into the top ten at #9. How much higher can it get?

Has anyone heard any rumblings about the next single or does anyone care to make a prediction? Looks like they should still have some nice momentum since "Beautiful Drug" was able to recover. "Castaway" could make sense with summer not too far away, but I'm really hoping for "Dress Blues" or "Bittersweet". "I'll Be Your Man (Song For A Daughter)" has been a good selling album track as well. Pretty much anything would be a good choice besides the rock singles and "Mango Tree".

My prediction is "Remedy". Zac constantly says at his live shows that it is the most important song the Band has ever recorded (in terms of its message) and they recorded a short movie and music video for it already ( vimeopro.com/diegopernia/director/video/143038409). Plus, ZBB sang it on TV during A&E's Shining A Light concert in which they received rave reviews for. So, I am assuming its their next single.

I see them going with "Remedy". Their last two singles have been very fluffy in terms of content. "Remedy" would be a good way to close out the era imo. "Castaway" should have been second though.

"Remedy" would be a great choice IMO. It's very unique and I love the Celtic/Irish breakdown it gives later into the song.
