(dammit, Green was right about me being up again)
Islands - The Joke (bangwave, Extra #1) vs. Head North - White Light (Green Baron, Extra #8) (believe it or not...I was hooked more by the song Green didn't submit...both were solid, though)
Blonder - In and Out (Dr. Indie, Extra, #1) vs. Grimes - Venus Fly (bangwave, Extra #8) (I love Grimes as much as the next person...but that album is now three years old)
Death from Above 1979 - Never Swim Alone (3Cheers, Extra #1) vs. Skarlett Riot - Feel (Dr. Indie, Extra, #8) (not surprised that people are siding with "Never Swim Alone" on this one because of the name attached to it, but, as someone that really likes DFA, this is easily one of the worst songs that I've heard from them; "Feel" doesn't strike me as all that great, but it's better than the alternative)
Awaken I Am - Black Dreams (janinho, Extra #1) vs. HMLTD - To the Door (peacebone, Extra #8) (I liked "Black Dreams" enough, but I didn't quite fall in love with it, whereas "To the Door" is all over the place, but it absolutely goes for glory in how all over the place it is...if nothing else, I'll remember "To the Door", and I'm not sure if I can say the same for "Black Dreams")
Algiers - Cleveland (peacebone, Extra #1) vs. Neck Deep - In Bloom (3Cheers, Extra #8) ("In Bloom" is good, and I expect it to move on, but "Cleveland" is better)
Glass Animals - Agnes (James, Extra #1) vs. Car Seat Headrest - Vincent (Pipa, Extra #8) (it was always going to be a tough sell for me to vote against James' pick, but "Vincent" is really solid...hell of a song)
The Neighbourhood - Roll Call (Lordeftones Extra #1) vs. Chris Stapleton - Millionaire (dm2081, Extra #8) (this is what The Neighbourhood should be doing, songs like "Scary Love" and this...but I also understand why someone wouldn't like it, it reminds me a lot of Portishead at times and it's very laid back; "Millionaire" is also a solid listen, but Stapleton has better)

Until the Ribbon Breaks - Here Comes the Feeling (James, #2) vs. JD McPherson - Lucky Penny (Pipa, #7) Just okay with both. Here Comes the Feeling ended up growing on me by the end, but I wasn't a huge fan of the vocals for the most part. I liked Lucky Penny at first, but I hear it so much on 92ZEW and that guitar riff is so obnoxious and squeaky I'm beyond done with this song, so easy victory for UtRB.
Roosevelt - Colours (bangwave, #2) vs. GENTS - Love Is Tears (Dr. Indie, #7) I think I've heard Colours before? It's pretty good, feel like the chorus could be better though. Love Is Tears is decent, I like this kind of sound generally, but thought the song was a bit boring, so giving it to Roosevelt.
Nothing but Thieves - I'm Not Made By Design (Lordeftones #2) vs. Kristin Kontrol - X-Communicate (bangwave, #7) Ugh, close one here. Broken Machine is kind of having the same effect on me as Pvris's White Noise did, where I listened to the album once and liked it decently, but the more I re-listen to the songs from it the more I grow to love every track. X-Communicate is really good to though, I charted something by Kristin Kontrol before. I'll give it to her since NbT will probably win anyway and have more songs in this tournament anyway.
The Killers - Run For Cover (dm2081, #2) vs. Threshold - Small Dark Lines (Red, #7) Not getting any easier here. I love Run for Cover, but Small Dark Lines was awesome, this is the kind of epic 80s-inspired hard rock that I love, so giving the point to the first listen.
Converge - Reptilian (Red, #2) vs. Nine Inch Nails - Less Than (3Cheers, #7) Ugh, I just can't get into Converge at all. Easy win for NIN.
Alex Cameron - Runnin' Outta Luck (Octopuff in Kumquat, #2) vs. The Menzingers - Midwestern States (Green Baron, #7) I like the Menzingers and this song is pretty good, might end up charting it...but it doesn't have my favorite chorus of the year in it.
The War on Drugs - Pain (Daryl, #2) vs. Royal Thunder - April Showers (Octopuff in Kumquat, #7) Rough one here, but WoD is going to win anyway, voting for my own song (should've submitted We Slipped instead, check that one out if you liked April Showers, it has more of a catchy, classic rock sound to it).

Until the Ribbon Breaks - Here Comes the Feeling (James, #2) vs. JD McPherson - Lucky Penny (Pipa, #7) Roosevelt - Colours (bangwave, #2) vs. GENTS - Love Is Tears (Dr. Indie, #7) (feeling good about both of these, liked "Colours" a little more) Nothing but Thieves - I'm Not Made By Design (Lordeftones #2) vs. Kristin Kontrol - X-Communicate (bangwave, #7) The Killers - Run For Cover (dm2081, #2) vs. Threshold - Small Dark Lines (Red, #7) (well, RIP my song, part one) Converge - Reptilian (Red, #2) vs. Nine Inch Nails - Less Than (3Cheers, #7) (well, RIP my song, part two...and even more so than part one ) Alex Cameron - Runnin' Outta Luck (Octopuff in Kumquat, #2) vs. The Menzingers - Midwestern States (Green Baron, #7) (oh, this matchup is unfortunate) The War on Drugs - Pain (Daryl, #2) vs. Royal Thunder - April Showers (Octopuff in Kumquat, #7) (tough matchup for Royal Thunder, but just about every matchup would have been really tough for it, so)

Until the Ribbon Breaks - Here Comes the Feeling (James, #2) vs. JD McPherson - Lucky Penny (Pipa, #7) I remember hearing A Taste of Silver from Until the Ribbon Breaks, and I liked that one. Here Comes the Feeling kinda bored me, seemed sorta generic. Lucky Penny had a cool bluesy sound. I think I've seen this guy on the AAA charts. JD McPherson gets this one.
Roosevelt - Colours (bangwave, #2) vs. GENTS - Love Is Tears (Dr. Indie, #7) Colours had a nice 80's sound, sounds like something I'd hear in a club in the 80's. Love is Tears also sounds very 80's, but reminds me of Toto in a way. The voice on this one is VERY 80's though. I liked both, but this goes to Roosevelt.
Nothing but Thieves - I'm Not Made By Design (Lordeftones #2) vs. Kristin Kontrol - X-Communicate (bangwave, #7) Nothing but Thieves is awesome as always. I'm Not Made By Design is definitely one of their more badass ones. Love the guitar in this one. X-Communicate was another very 80's one, and it was pretty enjoyable. Nothing but Thieves has to win this one though, that song was amazing.
The Killers - Run For Cover (dm2081, #2) vs. Threshold - Small Dark Lines (Red, #7) Run For Cover was another great one from The Killers. Very upbeat, lots of energy, almost as good as The Man. Small Dark Lines from the beginning sounded badass. Kinda reminded me of Nonpoint in the verses, but in the chorus I got some awesome prog metal vibes. I feel like Run For Cover will win this, so I'll give Threshold a vote for being prog metal, lol.
Converge - Reptilian (Red, #2) vs. Nine Inch Nails - Less Than (3Cheers, #7) Ohhh man, Converge had one of my albums of the year. AND, Reptilian is one of the best songs off of it. Such a sinister, evil song. I love everything about it. Less Than was a great return from Nine Inch Nails that I put in my top 10 on the Alt 2017 rankdown. I hate, hate, HATE having to do this, but I'm giving this to Converge. Such a tough matchup, and I figured I'd give it to the underdog.
Alex Cameron - Runnin' Outta Luck (Octopuff in Kumquat, #2) vs. The Menzingers - Midwestern States (Green Baron, #7) Runnin' Outta Luck wasn't bad. Sounded like something from Hot AC. I liked the end a bit more than the beginning. Midwestern States was an awesome punk rock song that rings true to me, even though I'm not from the midwest lol. This goes to The Menzingers.
The War on Drugs - Pain (Daryl, #2) vs. Royal Thunder - April Showers (Octopuff in Kumquat, #7) Pain is one of the best TWOD songs I've heard yet. Love the reverb in this one. I liked the guitar on April Showers, but the vocals weren't that great. The War on Drugs wins.

I'll come back to this, but I already see something quite unsetteling here. Until the Ribbon Breaks - Here Comes the Feeling (James, #2) vs. JD McPherson - Lucky Penny (Pipa, #7) Sorry but that first song didn't work for me, in any way, shape or form. "Lucky Penny" however turns up the blues rock fire. Roosevelt - Colours (bangwave, #2) vs. GENTS - Love Is Tears (Dr. Indie, #7) "Colours" is a great song. Damn! why did it have to against mine? > What I especially love about my entry , are the vocals and that synth riff. BTW.... for future reference.. Putting two 80's vibes songs against each other is counter productive. Nothing but Thieves - I'm Not Made By Design (Lordeftones #2) vs. Kristin Kontrol - X-Communicate (bangwave, #7) I guess I'll keep voting for this one as long as Butterflies & Hurricanes keeps submitting it.The Killers - Run For Cover (dm2081, #2) vs. Threshold - Small Dark Lines (Red, #7) It's gonna be hard to beat the Killers here. I do think "Small Dark Lines" is pretty fierce tho.Converge - Reptilian (Red, #2) vs. Nine Inch Nails - Less Than (3Cheers, #7) Alex Cameron - Runnin' Outta Luck (Octopuff in Kumquat, #2) vs. The Menzingers - Midwestern States (Green Baron, #7) I loved that song, the MV was the best part of the song. Those dance moves. Classic. Somebody should make a gif of him dancing. Gives Rick Astley a run for his money.
The War on Drugs - Pain (Daryl, #2) vs. Royal Thunder - April Showers (Octopuff in Kumquat, #7) Give me those gruff ,female vocals anyday.

Until the Ribbon Breaks - Here Comes the Feeling (James, #2) vs. JD McPherson - Lucky Penny (Pipa, #7) Here Comes The Feeling was kind of forgettable in my opinion but it was alright. Lucky Penny was an infectious garage rock song and I really love that one.
Roosevelt - Colours (bangwave, #2) vs. GENTS - Love Is Tears (Dr. Indie, #7) Colors was a very fun and enjoyable song but I donât see it having much staying power. This definitely sounds like something Dr. Indie would like but it isnât really my cup of tea.
Nothing but Thieves - I'm Not Made By Design (Lordeftones #2) vs. Kristin Kontrol - X-Communicate (bangwave, #7) My dudes at Nothing But Thieves are still cranking out some kick ass music. This rocks! X-Communicate was a bit too saccarine for me but it did have some nice guitars.
The Killers - Run For Cover (dm2081, #2) vs. Threshold - Small Dark Lines (Red, #7) Great Killers song! Easily their best single since Dustland Fairytail!Small Dark Lines was good but canât compare to The Killers.
Converge - Reptilian (Red, #2) vs. Nine Inch Nails - Less Than (3Cheers, #7) Iâve never been a big fan of metal so NIN won pretty easily for me.
Alex Cameron - Runnin' Outta Luck (Octopuff in Kumquat, #2) vs. The Menzingers - Midwestern States (Green Baron, #7) Iâve been meaning to chart Runninâ Outta Luck for a while now. Itâs a really good song. I also really love Midwestern States and I feel bad that Baron canât even vote for his own song anymore. I still think Iâll give it to Runnin Outta Luck.
The War on Drugs - Pain (Daryl, #2) vs. Royal Thunder - April Showers (Octopuff in Kumquat, #7) Im still not all that into TWOD but I l will admit that out of the songs Iâve heard from them, this ones the best and it is really growing on me. April Showers was alright, it kind of gave me some PVRIS vibes.

(will finish later)
Until the Ribbon Breaks - Here Comes the Feeling (James, #2) vs. JD McPherson - Lucky Penny (Pipa, #7) - I didn't mind "Lucky Penny" from the AAA rankdown, but not passing up on my song. This one is a lot different for UTRB.
Roosevelt - Colours (bangwave, #2) vs. GENTS - Love Is Tears (Dr. Indie, #7)
Nothing but Thieves - I'm Not Made By Design (Lordeftones #2) vs. Kristin Kontrol - X-Communicate (bangwave, #7)

Until the Ribbon Breaks - Here Comes the Feeling (James, #2) vs. JD McPherson - Lucky Penny (Pipa, #7) Wasn't a fan of either, but I'll go with the throwback sound over some light tropical house cover.
Roosevelt - Colours (bangwave, #2) vs. GENTS - Love Is Tears (Dr. Indie, #7) Sometimes you can hardly tell the difference between bangwave and Dr. Indie lol
Nothing but Thieves - I'm Not Made By Design (Lordeftones #2) vs. Kristin Kontrol - X-Communicate (bangwave, #7)
The Killers - Run For Cover (dm2081, #2) vs. Threshold - Small Dark Lines (Red, #7) Threshold was a good first listen, kind of like a modern day Bon Jovi. But still not beating The Killers.
Converge - Reptilian (Red, #2) vs. Nine Inch Nails - Less Than (3Cheers, #7) Instrumentation was good on Reptilian, but the vocals weren't there for me. NIN killed it on Less Than.
Alex Cameron - Runnin' Outta Luck (Octopuff in Kumquat, #2) vs. The Menzingers - Midwestern States (Green Baron, #7) This vote is for Baron!
The War on Drugs - Pain (Daryl, #2) vs. Royal Thunder - April Showers (Octopuff in Kumquat, #7) I actually just got into Royal Thunder. They have some great stuff, but still not beating The War On Drugs.

alright someone has got to set me straight here. Regarding "Runninn' Outta Luck". Is that lyric; "I'm A Man On a mission, your a stripper outta luck", or do I just want to hear that?

The National - Guilty Party (Green Baron, #2) vs. Bohnes - Six Feet Under (James, #7) I had heard Guilty Party two or three times before and always thought it was super boring, but I actually kind of liked it re-listening to it this time, it's a very pretty song, I might end up charting it. Unfortunately, though, it's up against Six Feet Under which I'm loving right now, so my voting for a National song remains to be seen, but at least I can say I've grown to like this one.
Queens Of The Stone Age - Evil Has Landed (3Cheers, #2) vs. Jack Johnson - Big Sur (dm2081, #7) Evil Has Landed is cool instrumentally, kind of Zeppelin-y and I like the bassline, but I thought it was otherwise forgettable. Big Sur sure is a Jack Johnson...I've heard better from him though. Both of these are harmless enough, but not huge on either. Giving it to QOTSA.
LCD Soundsystem - Oh Baby (peacebone, #2) vs. MGMT - When You Die (Lordeftones #7) I liked Oh Baby more than Call the Police, not in love with it but listenable. When You Die was great though, just as good as Little Dark Age.
Artificial Pleasure - Wound Up Tight (Dr. Indie, #2) vs. Radiohead - Lift (humanshazam, #7) This one is not easy, both great first listens. I think I'm going to give it to Wound Up Tight because of the strength of the bass performance, but Lift is a great Radiohead song.
Anderson East - All On My Mind (Pipa, #2) vs. The Horrors - Weighed Down (peacebone, #7) Weighed Down was a decent first listen, but AOMM is hard to beat.
Pale Waves - Television Romance (janinho, #2) vs. LCD Soundsystem - how do you sleep? (Daryl, #7) Television Romance was kind of a cool first listen, I think I would've liked it more if the vocals weren't as whiny though. I actually liked this LCD Soundsystem song a lot, a lot darker sounding than most of what I've heard by them and I like how it builds.
Manchester Orchestra - The Silence (humanshazam, #2) vs. Zahna - Underneath (janinho, #7) Underneath was a good first listen, but The Silence might be my favorite song from the new Manchester Orchestra album.

Donât mean to be cocky or anything but Iâm pretty sure mine is definitely winning this round. I sure hope so. The Way this tournament is going... In other news, after starting 0/4 NBT finally scored me a win, albeit barely.

Haven't done one of these in a while (mainly due to laziness), but let's change that.
The National - Guilty Party (Green Baron, #2) vs. Bohnes - Six Feet Under (James, #7) Not even close. "Guilty Party" is one of the best tracks on the new National album - love the way that the piano and trumpets complement the sorrowful atmosphere of the song (as well as that IDM-ish beat, which I'm a real sucker for). "Six Feet Under" just sounded like a generic 2017 Alt song.
Queens Of The Stone Age - Evil Has Landed (3Cheers, #2) vs. Jack Johnson - Big Sur (dm2081, #7) They're both decent, but QOTSA ultimately win out with their usual groove.
LCD Soundsystem - Oh Baby (peacebone, #2) vs. MGMT - When You Die (Lordeftones #7) Tougher matchup here. The three singles MGMT have released so far from their new album have all been outstanding. "When You Die" is a very well-done throwback to the 80s jangle pop sound (and the video is a trip to watch). "Oh Baby" is probably the best track from the new LCD album though. Those synths are utterly gorgeous up against the minimalism of the track.
Artificial Pleasure - Wound Up Tight (Dr. Indie, #2) vs. Radiohead - Lift (humanshazam, #7) "Wound Up Tight" was a decent first listen, funky 80s throwback song with a good bass line. Radiohead are always tough to beat though, even when the song in question is an old outtake.
Anderson East - All On My Mind (Pipa, #2) vs. The Horrors - Weighed Down (peacebone, #7)
Pale Waves - Television Romance (janinho, #2) vs. LCD Soundsystem - how do you sleep? (Daryl, #7)
Manchester Orchestra - The Silence (humanshazam, #2) vs. Zahna - Underneath (janinho, #7)

The National - Guilty Party (Green Baron, #2) vs. Bohnes - Six Feet Under (James, #7) Guilty Party is one of the best, most melancholy songs off of Sleep Well Beast. Absolutely beautiful. Six Feet Under was catchy, but seemed kinda generic/average to me. Sorry James, but I gotta give it to Matt and the boys.
Queens Of The Stone Age - Evil Has Landed (3Cheers, #2) vs. Jack Johnson - Big Sur (dm2081, #7) The Evil Has Landed is yet another great one from QOTSA. This one was a bit toned down compared to TWYUTD, but it picks up near the end. Big Sur was nice enough, but Jack Johnson isn't that interesting to me. Josh Homme and the boys get this one.
LCD Soundsystem - Oh Baby (peacebone, #2) vs. MGMT - When You Die (Lordeftones #7) Oh Baby had some awesome fat synths. Very strong 80's sound. I dug this one a lot. When You Die also had a very 80's sound, mixed with some psychedelic sounds. The intro reminded me of Echo and the Bunnymen. Oh Baby was more of a standout song, though.
Artificial Pleasure - Wound Up Tight (Dr. Indie, #2) vs. Radiohead - Lift (humanshazam, #7) Wound Up Tight started off sounding very industrial, then I remember it was a Dr. Indie pick when the vocals kicked in. Good song, though. Radiohead is my favorite band. And this was my pick. Lift is one of their most beautiful non-studio album tracks. Sorry, drindie, but I'm voting for myself.
Anderson East - All On My Mind (Pipa, #2) vs. The Horrors - Weighed Down (peacebone, #7) All on My Mind had a cool orchestral intro. Dude has a soulful voice too. This sounds like what Rag'n'Bone Man would've sounded like if he was good. Weighed Down sounded good as well. Nice chill 80's song. It really picks up at the end. This is tough, but this narrowly goes to The Horrors.
Pale Waves - Television Romance (janinho, #2) vs. LCD Soundsystem - how do you sleep? (Daryl, #7) Television Romance sounded pretty cool. Kinda reminded me of a more poppy CHVRCHES. We got some more fat synths on How Do You Sleep? The build on this is fantastic. I really need to listen to this LCD album. James Murphy gets this.
Manchester Orchestra - The Silence (humanshazam, #2) vs. Zahna - Underneath (janinho, #7) The Silence is my favorite song from one of my favorite albums of the year. Such a climax to this song. Bonechilling. Underneath has some nice instrumentation, but the vocals weren't really my thing. This goes to Andy Hull and the mates.

The National - Guilty Party (Green Baron, #2) vs. Bohnes - Six Feet Under (James, #7)
Queens Of The Stone Age - Evil Has Landed (3Cheers, #2) vs. Jack Johnson - Big Sur (dm2081, #7) Ha, my song is going to get slaughtered. QOTSA have always been mediocre to me. Couple good songs, but their praise on here seems a bit much at times. Big Sur is perfect beach music, and we need beach music.
LCD Soundsystem - Oh Baby (peacebone, #2) vs. MGMT - When You Die (Lordeftones #7) Good era from LCD Soundsystem this time around.
Artificial Pleasure - Wound Up Tight (Dr. Indie, #2) vs. Radiohead - Lift (humanshazam, #7) The vocals weren't right in the Artificial Pleasure song, but everything else was solid. Radiohead are always a good choice.
Anderson East - All On My Mind (Pipa, #2) vs. The Horrors - Weighed Down (peacebone, #7)
Pale Waves - Television Romance (janinho, #2) vs. LCD Soundsystem - how do you sleep? (Daryl, #7) To quote Bubbles from Trailer Park Boys, Television Romance got my bird up. Great first listen.
Manchester Orchestra - The Silence (humanshazam, #2) vs. Zahna - Underneath (janinho, #7) You guys really like a certain group of about 50 bands don't you? Manchester Orchestra are solid though, they get my vote this round.

The National - Guilty Party (Green Baron, #2) vs. Bohnes - Six Feet Under (James, #7) (Six Feet Under was really good too and Guilty Party isnât The Nationals best work but it is still fantastic instrumentally.)
Queens Of The Stone Age - Evil Has Landed (3Cheers, #2) vs. Jack Johnson - Big Sur (dm2081, #7) (This one is pretty easy for me because this one is my pick I really love it especially the killer f**king bassline and the awesome guitars. The Jack Johnson song, while pleasant is very forgettable and disposable in my opinion)
LCD Soundsystem - Oh Baby (peacebone, #2) vs. MGMT - When You Die (Lordeftones #7) (Oh Baby was a bit longer than it really needed to be but was an alright song. Holy s**t why are MGMT do good all the sudden?!? This is some damn solid psychedelic rock they put together right here. Not nearly as good as Little Dark Age but great nonetheless)
Artificial Pleasure - Wound Up Tight (Dr. Indie, #2) vs. Radiohead - Lift (humanshazam, #7) (This one is tough because on one hand we have a really good Little Rock song with a killer bassline. And the other is a really great song from a band that I admittedly never gotten into.)
Anderson East - All On My Mind (Pipa, #2) vs. The Horrors - Weighed Down (peacebone, #7) (All On My Mind is an awesome neo-Soul song that I really enjoy. Weighed Down in decent but it is a bit on the forgettable side for me.)
Pale Waves - Television Romance (janinho, #2) vs. LCD Soundsystem - how do you sleep? (Daryl, #7) (I really enjoyed how do you sleep, it was a really punchy song albeit it was nine minutes long. But dammit did Television Romance give me The 1975 vibes in all the best ways.)
Manchester Orchestra - The Silence (humanshazam, #2) vs. Zahna - Underneath (janinho, #7) (The Silence was a hell of a way to end A Black Mile To the Surface it is a hell of a great song. Underneath was pretty good, it kind of gave me Evanescence vibes for some reason.)
