Hatchie - Without A Blush (bangwave, #8) I was going to pick this song, but I saw it was used before in another tournament.

Well, I meant to post this yesterday, but I suppose that now is especially a good time to say this: The time to change your submissions or submit at all has passed! The matchups are locked in, and we should be getting started tomorrow. I won't say when, exactly...but don't be surprised if it's early tomorrow afternoon. That's all I'll say.

ROCK TOURNAMENT: SUMMERTIME MADNESS 2019
In the summertime, we vote on songs and determine a winner. That sounded better in my head.
Yes, folks, it's time for the latest RoTo to kick into overdrive! The first round will have three day deadlines, while every subsequent round will have two day deadlines. The deadline time will be the same in every round: 8pm US Eastern, which should be around the time that I post every new set. Three days should be enough time for everyone to complete their votes for the first round. Also, this is going to be important: Because I will be out of town at the end of the month, it's very likely that one set will be a loooong one. As in, one week long. If you can't get your votes in for THAT round...
If you did not submit, you are still allowed to vote! The voting process is not exclusive to those who submitted songs, hence why posters who didn't submit this time are still being tagged. If you wish to be removed from the tag list, though, I will do so without further questions.
ROUND 1, SET #1: #1s VS. #8s, PART ONE Yeasayer - Ecstatic Baby (bangwave, #1) vs. Black Mountain - Future Shade (peacebone, #8) Weyes Blood - Movies (Red, #1) vs. BEAST IN BLACK - From Hell With Love (dr.indie, #8) The Claypool Lennon Delirium - Amethyst Realm (shazam, #1) vs. Jordan Rakei - Mind’s Eye (Beno, #8) SOAK - Knock Me Off My Feet (BlurryFaceKyle, #1) vs. (Sandy) Alex G - Gretel (disassociative, #8) Weyes Blood - A Lot's Gonna Change (Lordeftones, #1) vs. Tame Impala - Patience (MoD, #8) Volbeat - Last Day Under The Sun (dr.indie, #1) vs. The Twilight Sad - I/m Not Here [Missing Face] (willapted33, #8) La Dispute - Footsteps at the Pond (American Idiot, #1) vs. Origami Button – Sorbet (wheatsquares33, #8) Local Natives - When Am I Gonna Lose You (Local Native, #1) vs. Cult of Luna - The Silent Man (shazam, #8)

Yeasayer - Ecstatic Baby (bangwave, #1) (light to decent 7) vs. Black Mountain - Future Shade (peacebone, #8) (light to decent 8)I do like most Yeasayer stuff I have heard, this one is okay but it it isn't quite as catchy as I'd hope for. Future Shade was really great though. I'm charting Licensed to Drive right now and this one's even better.Weyes Blood - Movies (Red, #1) (strong 6 to light 7) vs. BEAST IN BLACK - From Hell With Love (dr.indie, #8) (decent to strong 7)Do I see the appeal of Weyes Blood? Yeah sure. It's very pretty stuff. But is this anything I'd go out of my way to listen to, not really. I'd put it on in the background at work, but it's all just pretty wallpaper that I have no interest in beyond that. I'm totally into this Dr. Indie pick though. Very much a Dr. Indie pick, but one I'm into. The Claypool Lennon Delirium - Amethyst Realm (shazam, #1) (decent to strong 7) vs. Jordan Rakei - Mind’s Eye (Beno, #8) (decent to strong 6)Hmm can't say I was expecting so accessible from a Claypool project, but I dig this a lot, very psychedelic but does go on a bit longer than I'd want it to (those two kinda go hand in hand though don't they). Mind's Eye isn't too bad either, like the sound of this track but the guy's voice just isn't doing it for me.SOAK - Knock Me Off My Feet (BlurryFaceKyle, #1) (decent to strong 6) vs. (Sandy) Alex G - Gretel (disassociative, #8) (decent to strong 7)Knock me Off My Feet, blehh it's okay, more of this indistinguishable but inoffensive indie girl stuff. It's fine, pretty catchy chorus. Gretel was pretty cool though, I'd come back to this one.Weyes Blood - A Lot's Gonna Change (Lordeftones, #1) (light to decent 7) vs. Tame Impala - Patience (MoD, #8) (strong 7 to light 8)Aw I'm sure this one's not too fun for Lord I do like this Weyes Blood song a bit more than the last one, but my previous statement still stands. I do quite like Patience though, one of my favorite singles from Tame Impala for sure.Volbeat - Last Day Under The Sun (dr.indie, #1) (light to decent 8) vs. The Twilight Sad - I/m Not Here [Missing Face] (willapted33, #8) (light to decent 8)UGHH I am not a fan of this matchup at all. Last Day Under the Sun might very well be the most I've ever enjoyed a Volbeat song, but I also love the Twilight Sad and this is a very very good song from them! Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, this could really go either way, but I feel like Volbeat may have it either way? And I was very into this Twilight Sad song so I will give it to them.La Dispute - Footsteps at the Pond (American Idiot, #1) (decent to strong 6) vs. Origami Button – Sorbet (wheatsquares33, #8) (light to decent 8)I'm not inclined to pick against my own song and I've heard better from La Dispute anyway.Local Natives - When Am I Gonna Lose You (Local Native, #1) (decent to strong 7) vs. Cult of Luna - The Silent Man (shazam, #8) (decent to strong 6)Loved WAIGLY on first listen, hasn't stayed at the same level of greatness with repeated listens but I'm still a fan. The Silent Man was pretty cool too, a bit excessive but sounded good.Best first listens: I/m Not Here [Missing Face], Future Shade, From Hell with Love, Amethyst Realm, Greta

easayer - Ecstatic Baby (bangwave, #1) vs. Black Mountain - Future Shade (peacebone, #8) "Ecstatic Baby" was melodic, funky and a roller coaster of a great time. "Future Shade"? Oh my I thought this was wheatsquares33 at first. This one burned into me like a long lost 80's Metal track. Do I even have to say? Download? Check. Weyes Blood - Movies (Red, #1) vs. BEAST IN BLACK - From Hell With Love (dr.indie, #8) Both of these have Lord Of The Rings vibes but at different levels. BEAST IN BLOOD is suited more for the battle scene. The Claypool Lennon Delirium - Amethyst Realm (shazam, #1) vs. Jordan Rakei - Mind’s Eye (Beno, #8) Do you Pink Floyd much? Maybe a bit too long in length, but I do dig the guitar works. "Mind's Eye" could not hypnotize me into voting for it. SOAK - Knock Me Off My Feet (BlurryFaceKyle, #1) vs. (Sandy) Alex G - Gretel (disassociative, #8) I've listened to some SOAK. Very aesthetic, and a lot like Pale Waves who are one of my new favorite bands. "Gretel" didn't grab my attention musically. Too many sounds that didn't really mesh IMOP. Nice eye catching MV tho. Weyes Blood - A Lot's Gonna Change (Lordeftones, #1) vs. Tame Impala - Patience (MoD, #8) Sounds like a song you would hear in a Crown International Pictures film (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crown_International_Pictures) right when the main couple is making love. Not bad. Definitely 70's. Tame Impala also has some 70's vibes. A bit more ABBA. Volbeat - Last Day Under The Sun (dr.indie, #1) vs. The Twilight Sad - I/m Not Here [Missing Face] (willapted33, #8) I doubt any song could sway me from the new Volbeat song this summer. Its such a perfect rock song in so many way I lost count. I remember digging "VTR", but this other The Twilight Sad song wasn't enticing enough vocally. La Dispute - Footsteps at the Pond (American Idiot, #1) vs. Origami Button – Sorbet (wheatsquares33, #8) I enjoyed the music in "Footsteps at the Pong" much more than the vocals. Was this one of those Beastie Boys singing? "Sobet" was sort of musically frantic in the verses, but much more appealing in the vocals department. Local Natives - When Am I Gonna Lose You (Local Native, #1) vs. Cult of Luna - The Silent Man (shazam, #8) so this must be the magic behind maine changing his PULSE name? This one reminds me of War On Drugs music sounds. Kate Mara was cast perfectly for this MV. Great music video to capture the song's vibe. "The Silent Man" should have lived up to its name. I enjoy some growling in songs but not the whole song.

Yeasayer - Ecstatic Baby (bangwave, #1) vs. Black Mountain - Future Shade (peacebone, #8) Both of these are really good first listens. Ecstatic Baby was pretty catchy, I can dig it. However, I really liked the guitar work in this Black Mountain song more.
Weyes Blood - Movies (Red, #1) vs. BEAST IN BLACK - From Hell With Love (dr.indie, #8) HAHAHAHAHA IS THIS MATCHUP FOR REAL Anyway, points to my avatar. Spoiler alert for my personal chart: there's a chance it could surpass her other song "Everyday" and be next week's #1.
The Claypool Lennon Delirium - Amethyst Realm (shazam, #1) vs. Jordan Rakei - Mind’s Eye (Beno, #8) Two more good first listens although neither are as good as the songs in the first match-up. I like the former's instrumentation more.
SOAK - Knock Me Off My Feet (BlurryFaceKyle, #1) vs. (Sandy) Alex G - Gretel (disassociative, #8) Well, this Soak song is better than Deja Vu, which burnt on me. Gretel was a song I've been meaning to check out so I'm glad I finally did, and now that I've heard it, yeah, it's damn great.
Weyes Blood - A Lot's Gonna Change (Lordeftones, #1) vs. Tame Impala - Patience (MoD, #8) A former Daryl #1 vs. Weyes Blood? I love you Kevin Parker, but I gotta ensure Natalie Mering does as well as possible in this tournament.
Volbeat - Last Day Under The Sun (dr.indie, #1) vs. The Twilight Sad - I/m Not Here [Missing Face] (willapted33, #8) LDUtS is essentially Volbeat's "Dance Macabre". Mark my words that it will have a similar SD as that song in the 2019 Active RD. I like the song enough but it's not one of the better Volbeat tracks. I'm Not Here is another great first listen for the Twilight Sad.
La Dispute - Footsteps at the Pond (American Idiot, #1) vs. Origami Button – Sorbet (wheatsquares33, #8) Footsteps at the Pond was more up my alley.
Local Natives - When Am I Gonna Lose You (Local Native, #1) vs. Cult of Luna - The Silent Man (shazam, #8) Yikes! This is tough. WAIGLY has made more of an impression on me over time since I heard it for the March Madness All-Genre Tournament. The instrumental on The Silent Man is superb too! Overall I think I still like WAIGLY more?

Yeasayer - Ecstatic Baby (bangwave, #1) (light 7) vs. Black Mountain - Future Shade (peacebone, #8) (decent 7) "Ecstatic Baby" was pretty cool but "Future Shade" was just a tad bit better, the guitar solo on this one really sold me for some reason lol, unlucky matchup really as I wouldn't mind seeing either make it further.
Weyes Blood - Movies (Red, #1) (strong 7) vs. BEAST IN BLACK - From Hell With Love (dr.indie, #8) (decent 6) Unlike most of you I've never really listened to Weyes Blood before, and "Movies" was a very good first impression. It started off a bit slow but picked up a bit, and towards the end I wished it would've kept going for longer, I can see myself revisiting this song a fair bit. The album cover of "From Hell With Love" is the epitome of Doc lmao, as is the song. I thought it was an alright Iron Maiden-lite type song, but it's probably not something I'll be revisiting after the tournament at all tbh, sorry Doc.
The Claypool Lennon Delirium - Amethyst Realm (shazam, #1) (decent 7) vs. Jordan Rakei - Mind’s Eye (Beno, #8) (light 8) I'll probably get blown out of the water here but I personally love Jordan Rakei, with this song in particular standing out as a highlight from his latest album. The shazam pick was still good though so I won't be too mad when it happens lol
SOAK - Knock Me Off My Feet (BlurryFaceKyle, #1) (light 6) vs. (Sandy) Alex G - Gretel (disassociative, #8) (light 8) The SOAK song was alright but it felt a bit safe, nothing in it really grabbed me all that much. It's not bad, just not super memorable. Gretel was certainly more memorable lol, I honestly love the production on this song, everything seems mixed really well, I can definitely see myself coming back to this.
Weyes Blood - A Lot's Gonna Change (Lordeftones, #1) (decent 7) vs. Tame Impala - Patience (MoD, #8) (light 7) Part 2 of Weyes Blood, and it's honestly much of the same lush, rich sounding music that I like quite a bit. I should probably check out Titanic Rising whenever I get the chance. Tame Impala have never really clicked with me as much as I want them too, and this one is a bit of the same. It's still pretty good, but I'm still waiting for them to blow me out of the water
Volbeat - Last Day Under The Sun (dr.indie, #1) (strong 7) vs. The Twilight Sad - I/m Not Here [Missing Face] (willapted33, #8) (decent 7) Volbeat fucking rule, I wish more active tried to sound like them as opposed to the same generic schlock they shovel out all the time. The Twilight Sad's song was also pretty cool, reminding me of a more synth-driven Frightened Rabbit. It's tight, but I think I'll go with Volbeat here
La Dispute - Footsteps at the Pond (American Idiot, #1) (decent 7) vs. Origami Button – Sorbet (wheatsquares33, #8) (strong 6) "Footsteps at the Pond" is the kind of post hardcore I really like, I've been meaning to check out the album for a while but I've never gotten around to it. "Sorbet" sounds pretty cool but I don't really love the guy's voice, I think it would be a lot better with a different vocalist. That being said, it's still a song I'll probably listen to a bit more, it sounds like it could grow on me.
Local Natives - When Am I Gonna Lose You (Local Native, #1) (strong 6) vs. Cult of Luna - The Silent Man (shazam, #8) (light 6) Shazam's really trying to set a record for the longest songs in RoTo huh, I guess Pizza Hut does that to a man. Anyway, the Local Natives song was honestly one of the weaker songs I've heard from them, it wasn't bad but not as good as some of their other stuff really. "The Silent Man" runs a bit too long for me without ever really evolving all that much, I honestly wasn't too much of a fan, sorry shazam :/
