Sounds the most dated of all her albums imo. However, it still has the legendary We Found Love, so all is not lost.

Probably my favorite of all her albums (Unapologetic and Loud are a closer 2nd and 3rd). I just have so many good memories while listening to this album. Plus it has We Found Love which is my favorite Rihanna single

My 2nd favorite Rihanna album behind GGGB. The trinity of Do Ya Thang, Watch N Slay and Cockiness (I Love It) is still everything. Do Ya Thang is probably one of the best things she's ever recorded.

Switch this and GGGB and my exact thoughts. I've loved Do Ya Thang since the iTunes snippet. If only Birthday Cake was a full song on the album. I think this is her most solid effort, and was actually disappointed by how much less I enjoyed the followup as a whole listen.

Such a shame that Birthday Cake was only an interlude on the album

Irks me a bit to this very day that "Watch n' Learn" was never given a single treatment. Sure it probably never screamed "make me into a single" so much, but I don't even care my biased appreciation for this song is so immense. Easily my favorite track from this album still to this very day.

This almost became the second Rihanna album I didn't buy (after her debut) because of how disappointed I was in the iTunes previews, but it turned out pretty good.
You Da One, Where Have You Been, Roc Me Out, Red Lipstick, and Do Ya Thang are in my list of Rihanna's best. Talk That Talk and Drunk on Love have ages kind of poorly for me. We Found Love has aged very well, though, and I finally like it now.

This album was perfectly serviceable at the time but it got old really fast. "We Found Love" was phenomenal and a great time to be a Rihanna fan but even that has lost some of its luster over the years.
I remember being frustrated during this particular album cycle because it constantly felt like she was taking one creative step forward with one single choice and one step back with the following one. Half of the songs on the album now feel like prototypes for Unapologetic ("Cockiness", "Birthday Cake", "Drunk on Love") but the other half always felt like rehashes of past material ("You da One", "Talk That Talk", "We All Want Love").
"Roc Me Out" for example is just a lesser "Rude Boy" but I still pop and lock and jam and break to it. "I'll let you in on a dirty secret: I just wanna be loved" is probably my single favorite Rihanna lyric. "Watch n' Learn" was the s**t [5] but the album covers were actually s**t. From the songs to the visuals, everything about Talk That Talk felt very on-the-fly.

I consider this album an EP in my head. WFL was probably the reason she did an album anyway. But I wished she had released "Do Ya Thang".

Yeah, Do Ya Thang is my most fave tracks along with Red Lipstick. I wish she had included the longer version of Birthday Cake with Chris Brown on the album. That would have been lit!

If the entire album had been as brilliant as the lead single, this would have sold 5 million+ domestically alone.
Unfortunately, much of the rest of it was just shit. Filler city.
