Billboard's Newest Dance Chart Billboard announced yesterday that they will be publishing a new chart in the dance section starting sometime in Mid-October. The chart will be a Dance Radio chart. They will take BDS information from the following stations (to start) to form the chart: WKTU (New York) WQSX (Boston) KNRJ (Phoenix) WPYM (Miami) KPTI (San Francisco) KCJZ (San Antonio) KKDL (Dallas) KDLD (Los Angeles) They will not filter the chart so if for example, a Busta Rhymes track is being played and has enough spins on these stations to chart then it will appear. Here is what the Top 5 would look like if the chart published today: 1) Never - Roc Project 2) Just the Way You Are - Milky 3) Crazy in Love - Beyonce 4) Never Leave You - Lumidee 5) If You're not the One - Daniel Beddingfield I think this is a great step forward for Dance music, in terms of recognition. Hopefully, these dance stations will be able to maintain and improve ratings to keep this chart alive.

This is BEYOND great news. I've wanted such a chart for the 9 years that I started watching the charts. Esp during the mid-90's when all those La Bouche/Real McCoy/Fun Factory types of songs were all over radio.
Maybe now that there's a Billboard Dance chart, more markets will get Dance stations. Maybe R&R will soon follow suit.
Also, this makes this forum more "official" since there now IS a chart!
p.s. how's that Milky song? Haven't heard it.

I thought there was also a Dance station in Chicago? And one in Orlando? No?

Oh my god, this is great! Hopefully, Canada will eventually follow suit. With the establishment of the new Dance Radio Chart, let's hope that radio stations will play more dance music instead of just pure R&B and Hip-Hop...

I thought there was also a Dance station in Chicago? And one in Orlando? No? Chicago lost their dance station. WPYO Orlando and WXXP Nassau-Suffolk are the big market dance stations not on the panel.

WPYO/Orlando has dropped most of the dance music on its playlist for more hip hop, so that's why it's not on the panel.
I love that this idea is finally going to be reality. What would make this chart even better would be if mixshows on CHR/CHR Rhythmic stations were counted as well.

Is the new chart audience impression or spin based? Siince there's so few stations, audience impression based would mean KTU would count for like almost 50% of the chart! (although all the stations are in large markets, nothing quite holds against NYC).

That sucks about Chicago losing their dance station, I remember how they always had the biggest dance hits (and stuff that never even took off here) MONTHS before anyone else. Kylie, Iio and Lasgo were all getting play on that station while those songs were still huge in Europe.
As for the dance chart, it's a great idea BUT has anyone listened to KTU lately (as one example)? They play dance songs that are 2 years old and half of their playlist is the usual Top 40. Maybe this chart will be some kind of inspiration but I doubt it.

They're playlist is really empty, it's like they're afraid to add new songs or something. And with shitty songs like Widelife's "I Don't Want You" getting Top 10 airplay there for what has now been 10, 11 months... it sucks. Then there's the eternally annoying 70's disco songs they just have t throw in. I only listen to KTU when I'm station-surfing in the car or something... then I usually give up on radio and just listen to a CD.

How is that possible? Canada doesn't have one single dance station, at least not in a monitored market.
