Here¡¦s the 1st ever Billboard/Monitor Dance Radio Top 25 Chart 10/13/2003
I think this will be really helpful for the dance community.

Unfortunately I don't think it's going to be very helpful if it's going to be comprised of songs like "Baby Boy" and "Crazy In Love." The dance community I'm assuming, would shun pop songs like that, and I'm sure there are going to be many club music heavy independent labels who are going to scream that remixes of pop songs are on the chart and not actual club songs that started out on a dancefloor to begin with. But it's a start.

Unfortunately I don't think it's going to be very helpful if it's going to be comprised of songs like "Baby Boy" and "Crazy In Love." Those songs are necessary for good balance. Remember, a Dance station is a TYPE of CHR/Rhythmic station. Anyway, when Hector posted the trial run of this chart a few weeks ago, the Top 5 looked so different. I wonder if this chart is going to have really fast turnover. Then again, "Something" is #15 and would likely have been on this chart a year and a half ago.

I don't necessarily disagree about the balance, but I have a feeling the club community won't be as forgiving, especially if the chart becomes a 25 song list of pop songs and remixes of pop songs. And you just know the major labels will do everything they can to make that happen.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned "Clocks" at #25.

I kinda hinted at it with remixes of pop songs speech. This chart will work fine until Amber or somebody stalls at #19 because 10 tunes above her are pop songs remixed for radio.

The chart isn't even published in this week's Billboard. I assume it'll only appear in Airplay Monitor.

To be honest, this chart actually looks pretty accurate for the most part. The majority of the songs (or remixes of these songs) have been played on KNHC 89.5 FM in Seattle (a dance station not monitored by this chart). In fact, here's the songs that I KNOW I've heard on KNHC within the past year: 1 Just The Way You Are Milky ROBBINS 3 Never Roc Project TOMMY BOY 5 If You're Not The One Daniel Bedingfield ISLAND 6 Simply Being Loved (Somnambulist) B.T. NETTWERK 7 Crazy In Love Beyonce COLUMBIA 8 Move Your Feet Junior Senior ATLANTIC 9 Burn For You Kreo ROBBINS 11 Rock Your Body Justin Timberlake JIVE 12 Baby Boy Beyonce COLUMBIA 13 I Begin To Wonder Dannii Minogue ULTRA 14 Satisfaction Benny Benassi ULTRA 15 Something Lasgo ROBBINS 16 You Promised Me (Tu Es Foutu) Ingrid ZYX 19 Sunrise Simply Red SIMPLY RED.COM 20 At The End iio MADE 21 Get It Together Seal WARNER BROS. 23 Dove (I'll Be Loving You) Moony POSITIVA 24 On A High Duncan Sheik ATLANTIC 25 Clocks Coldplay CAPITOL 19 out of 25 have been played on my favorite station. Not bad. :)

I wonder why that Milky song is #1, yet KTU never touched it, to the best of my knowledge. Is it a good song?
When I was home this past weekend, I kept hearing this song on KTU called "Appreciate Me" by some dude or girl named Amuka. It wasn't really to my liking, but I heard it so much that I would have thought it would be on this chart... espeically if its audience impression rather than spin based.

I'm surprised Duncan Sheik is on it. Wasn't his song released well over a year ago to pop but it flopped? Anyway, I'd say this is a good start and as time goes on, it'll probably lean toward more of what we know as Dance. And I would consider the two Beyounce songs dance enough. When I go to clubs, those two are two typical songs to be played. Are there dance remixes to either of them? Maybe you're expecting too much trance stuff?

KNHC was playing a dance remix of this song over the summer, and it was highly requested on the station. The song was also played on the station quite a bit over the summer in regular rotation. So, while it may have flopped on pop, a dance remix gave it new life at dance radio.

I meant to say I'm surprised he's on it despite the fact his song is so old. I knew about the dance mix and that it was a dance hit earlier this year or late last year but I'm surprised that after all this time, it's still getting airplay with dance outlets. Pretty cool stuff for him!

This is a really good chart, I've heard most of the songs on it. Songs fly in and out of the club charts so quickly (within 3 months), this chart may in fact draw significant attention to songs that Dance radio latches onto.

i think that the duncan sheik song is getting a little push as of late on chr/pop. i have heard a few radio programmers talking about it. and i am very happy to see it on there. i have always thought that duncan sheik was underrated. barely breathing was a huge hit but after that radio seemed to shun him and i don't know why. his song on the great expectations soundtrack should've been huge. it is also good to see daniel bedingfield still charting so high. that is defintiely one of my favorite songs of the year.
