Speaking of "unfortunately," I am now convinced that George will never have another big hit. He could release a song as good as "Amarilly by Morning" and his name alone would guarantee that radio won't play it since he's "too old." It gives me zero pleasure to say that, but it's hard to think otherwise. You're right. The executives at MCA would say, 'Get rid of that fiddle outro.' In any case, here is a chart where Amarillo By Morning peaked and a video: BILLBOARD TOP TEN FOR WEEK ENDING APRIL 30, 1983: 1. You're The First Time I've Thought About Leaving-Reba McEntire-Mercury 2. Jose Cuervo-Shelly West-Warner Bros. 3. American Made-Oak Ridge Boys-MCA 4. AMARILLO BY MORNING-GEORGE STRAIT-MCA 5. Whatever Happened To Old Fashioned Love-B.J. Thomas-Columbia 6. Common Man-John Conlee-MCA 7. If You're Gonna Do Me Wrong Do It Right-Vern Gosdin-complete 8. Save Me-Louise Mandrell-RCA 9. "Cold Beer Conversation" lost 72 spins and 176k in audience today and has lost 60 spins and 900k in total audience on MB this week, so since George went without a bullet on MB this past Sunday, this Sunday (12/13) will likely be his final MB chart appearance.

Not to contradict you, since you're probably (as usual) right about this, I will point out that George has had a couple of good spins updates in a row, and he's within range of bulleting with one more good day. I know, I've got my rose-colored glasses on. But he needs a total of 950 spins tomorrow to rebullet, and that's not out of range considering that he has 924 spins today. He's walking a tightrope and there may be only about a dozen people who care, but "all" he has to do is get the MB bullet I described above, stay at #40 on MB to retain his countdown spins (he has to be favored to do that, but he can't afford to let two songs pass him), and show a small audience loss on BB, or no loss at all, to clinch his bullet on that chart. OK, maybe it's unlikely, and maybe my number of 12 people who care overstates the figure a bit. I don't care -- I'm not giving up yet. Back to his bulleting ways, staying on the chart through the holidays, and then finding his way into the top 30. I don't ask for much. I have to save up some of my chart-related whining for the Vince Gill song....

I have to save up some of my chart-related whining for the Vince Gill song.... I don't think you're asking for much either, Zazie. :) George needs to gain roughly 30 spins tomorrow to re-bullet on MB since "Cold Beer Conversation" has lost 27 spins over the past six days. This song is still at a deficit of about 700k in total audience over those six days but all George has to do is have a great spin update tomorrow to get his bullet back and that would conceivably be enough to guarantee this song to last until at least the first week of 2016, on MB. Unfortunately, I just can't see CBC lasting past the first week or two of January and a top 30 peak on Billboard looks less likely in the New Year -- the best opportunity would be in 2015 but time has just about run out. MCA Nashville is doing their best to get George some overnight spins this weekend to make sure he re-bullets. I'm waiting for them to throw in the towel though and let this one go. :(

The Billboard Jan 2 chart (released a week from this coming Monday) would be George's best shot at the top 30 since there are quite a few songs that could go recurrent that week. Carrie and Dierks leave this coming week; then the following week Chris, Dan + Shay, maybe Parmalee if this week is their last push for a top 10, maybe Houser. That's 5 or 6 songs in those 2 weeks, and the Cole Swindell song will pass George so he needs an extra song from somewhere beyond the current 6 he needs to advance (the songs ahead of him and Maddie/Tae).
Top 30, 18+ weeks on the chart, make room for the next single. That's the plan! I'm not asking for a 40-week chart run.

I don't think Randy's going away soon as Stoney Creek wants his album to get released in Q1. Parmalee will be gone after this week as they have had an even bigger push the past six days than Big & Rich got with "Run Away With You." Dan + Shay, Chris, Carrie and Dierks will all be gone by next week. That's five songs and George is at #35. Unfortunately, I see Maddie & Tae, David Nail, Jon Pardi and Old Dominion passing George by January 2nd and we don't know what else the New Year holds for fast climbing singles.
If MCA Nashville is willing to keep George's song alive until after the New Year, then the Christmas shutdown might actually help George but then that would mean more songs have the opportunity to pass him to offset the recurrents that will happen by then.
I would never ask anybody to give up hope (for a song by a legend such as King George) for a simple top 30 peak, but my skepticism is as big as a hot-air balloon in regards to country radio helping George out at this point of his career.

A one-spin loss overnight for George, so no MB bullet. Guess my +27 or thereabouts was never very likely, even though it was at least possible. (The Billboard bullet tomorrow night doesn't seem too likely either.) Maybe George will sing a few duets to improve his chart runs -- no, probably not with FlaGa but maybe with LBT. Everybody else sings with one or more members of LBT -- why not George? His solo chart runs are not impressive, so maybe the group efforts will do the trick.
But first, a third single from his current album.
EDITED to take note of George's 166k gain overnight, coupled with a 41 spin loss. Impossible to know what's going to happen tonight -- I think George will be within 100k of a bullet, but that might not be good enough.

Perhaps George can hold on through the new year after all.
"Cold Beer Conversation" got 12 new adds this week, on MB. It got 13 MB adds the previous four weeks combined.

Nice jump on MB today, likely from the adds as sabre14 mentioned. If each of the 12 stations played the song twice a day (which seems reasonable??) it would more than enough to re-gain the bullet and maybe propel this a bit towards the top 30. I'm not ready to give up on this, but it would take a bunch for me to believe in a run.

Most of the new stations would just be giving this starter spins, so that would probably equate to 7-10 spins over the next seven days. I still think a top 30 peak is unlikely but right now the goal is to get the bullet back on both charts -- baby steps.

Those adds appear like they came too late as "Cold Beer Conversation" has not had a great week of updates and today's could be the deathblow (-58 spins and -265k in audience). George has lost 85 spins and 20k in net audience over the past six days. There's still a chance for George to re-bullet on MB tomorrow, but he might need a great update to do it. The excessive losses today make me believe that MCA won't bother pushing this any further, especially since we're at the end of the year.
George has to re-bullet tomorrow or he'll be gone from Mediabase.

Today looks like the fatal day to me. Unless George's losses come largely from non-BB stations -- unlikely -- he'll need a big two-day rally to wind up bulleting on BB. And a big one-day rally on MB doesn't even look possible, but he'd need that as well. The week started positively, too. I should know better....

Even though this chart run was disappointing, I'm glad it at least made Top 40, which is honestly more than I expected after the cold shoulder "Let It Go" got. I'd like to see them try for another Top 40 hit with "It Was Love" in 2016, because I could see that one possibly doing as well as the title track.

Those 13 MB adds included several format heavyweights, but where the heck were those 13 stations two months ago when this standout tune was released?
Barring a deluge of phone calls from his promo team to the stations which offer live programming on Saturdays requesting an extra spin or two or even more in the case of the notorious KUPL/Portland, a strategy which Miranda's label executed to push 'White Liar' to #1, I'm afraid that this is indeed the end of the road unless he can somehow regain his bullet tonight.

Still hearing "Cold Beer Conversation" on XM The Highway, too bad more stations didn't pick it up. Such a refreshing song to hear on the radio, really did like this one. If and when they do decide to move on to another single I could see "It Was Love" being it is radio friendly. Although I wouldn't mind "Everything I See" and "Wish You Well"

For me the obvious singles on the album are "It Was Love", "Everything I See", "Rock Paper Scissors", and "Take Me To Texas". And so far none of them has been released... I hope they go with at least one more single, so that at least ONE of those songs might get a chance to see the light of day!
Of course, 2 or more singles would be the icing on the cake, but I'm not sure what we should expect from this phase of George's career yet as far as MCA's willingness to keep putting out singles with limited success...

"Cold Beer Conversation" has survived through the New Year, on Mediabase that is. When George reached his third consecutive bulletless week on MB, he did so when there would be no published chart (December 20th), therefore his position would be frozen until the New Year. The 70 spins and 200k in audience gained from December 20th until now was enough to re-bullet this week and "Cold Beer Conversation" lands at #39 on MB.

Now I didn't factor it in but I wonder if George can re-enter Billboard(I'd rather it not just cause I really wanna see songs continue to fall)

This one is definitely in an interesting position. It went 3 weeks without a bullet so Billboard sent it recurrent (as they should have)...and Mediabase would have too in a normal situation, but because Country Aircheck didn't publish a chart for 2 weeks, CBC was allowed to stay on the MB chart through the New Year and now it's re-bulleted. It'll be interesting to see if MCA keeps pushing this and trying to get more adds, or if CBC will start losing spins again this week.

Chris Young, Big & Rich and Dan & Shay all went recurrent at Mediabase which certainly helped his cause, but garnering more adds this week would appear to be an Absolute must for MCA.
This will be a very intriguing week, but at least he'll return to CT40 this weekend.

I'm torn because part of me would love to see this return to the chart and keep climbing, but I know that the chances of it getting much higher at this point (support seems to be about maxed out) are pretty low even if it does get back on. I do hope they release another 1-2 singles from this album though, even if they aren't destined to do much of anything. I think "It Was Love" could at least be another Top 40 hit like CBC was.

"Cold Beer Conversation" lost 27 points on Mediabase this week but kept its bullet due to the 33 spins gained, so George narrowly escapes a bulletless week. Billboard Airplay once again decided against a re-entry and since it only gained 16k in total audience on MB, I agree with that decision (300k in audience lost was due to KCYY in San Antonio, so if it wasn't for that station, George may have re-entered Billboard tonight). George is starting to fall on the Music Row chart, so that's another chart publication this song is finished at and since the MB stations spinning this one haven't converted it to heavier rotation, it's only a matter of time before MCA throws the towel in on Mediabase. It did get 3 more adds this week so it always seems there's some minuscule, sliver of optimism with each passing week regarding this song.

I thought I'd given up, but I'm still looking at the MB adds email, checking to see the size of the week's gain ("minuscule" is the right word0, and otherwise following the uproarious fate of this song. I come here whenever anybody posts, even though there's nothing especially new that can be said.
This is some kind of George-related disease I've got. I'm becoming a country song. "The Chair" was a fine song, but I wish he'd release a new one called "The Chart."

Unfortunately, "The Chart" probably wouldn't fit in country radio's trending/targeted demographic...

This song's flying up the MB chart, two positions a week for who knows how many weeks -- on a pace to hit #1 in July. I have regained my optimism. The gain of nearly half a million impressions on MB this week ought to inspire BB to re-add the song on the 1/30 chart. Spending 4 weeks in BB recurrent-land doesn't mean CBC isn't still full of life.
After all, George's song gained almost the same amount of impressions that David Nail gained (measuring Mon-Sun with one more day to go in the "chart week," measured as best as I can. So a re-entry does make some amount of sense. I can put up with the 4 lost weeks....

"Cold Beer Conversation" gained 46 spins and 325k in audience this week, which could make Billboard re-enter George, though the amount of weeks CBC has been off that chart is reason to think they'll just pretend this one doesn't exist. Its gained 91 spins and 400k in audience the past two weeks. I said on twitter recently that MCA Nashville should really just give up on this song since radio just won't convert it any heavier in rotation. The longer this continues, the harder it will be to get any sort of significant gains in spins and audience. There's still that soft spot of me that wishes this will continue to a top 30 peak, though.
