Billy Ward had an exceptionally accomplished group .How could he fail with an early lead singer ,the great Jackie Wilson .Unfortunately Jackie left the group in 1957 to pursue a single career .His place was taken by Eugene Mumford ,a former lead singer with the Larks and Serenaders The first single Eugene cut with the group was the old Hoagy Carmichael number from 1931 Stardust .It was the groups biggest hit ,a superb record ,a real favourite of mine .They followed this hit with another old standard dating back to 1939 ,,Deep Purple .
