Hello, and welcome to Tutorial Mafia!
This game is an Open Setup designed for new or inexperienced players wishing to learn more about the game.
RULES AND EXPLANATIONS: This will look long because I wrote notes next to all of the rules! Most of the rules are really simple; don't be intimidated!
1) Please enjoy this game and do not act in a manner that would make the game unenjoyable for others! (This includes personal attacks!) This is pretty self-explanatory, it's one thing to tell someone "You suck at this game." and another thing to say "You suck at this game and a worthless person who doesn't deserve to live."
2) The Game Moderator is Kunt (@touch) and all official information and rulings will come directly from the Game Moderator. Any appointed Co-Moderators by the Game Moderator may do so as well (there are none at this time).
3) Editing & Deleting your posts is not allowed, and multi-posting is instead encouraged in its place. This rule is vital to the spirit of the game. In forum mafia you use old posts to find inconsistencies in people's play to catch mafia/frame townies. If someone edits stuff out of their posts or deletes their older posts it makes that impossible. If you are caught doing this, you will be removed from the game.
4) If you are allowed to communicate with another player outside of this thread, then please follow the communication instructions within your role PM! This pretty much means, unless your role PM says you can talk to someone, you're not allowed to talk to anyone about the game outside of this thread. Posting in the Random Thoughts thread something like "man this game is impossible!" after a townsperson is lynched is an example of this. All this does is give the false impression that you must be town because you're upset about a town player being lynched. If someone tries to reference the game in a PM to you, report it to me. Breaking this rule gets you expelled from the game as well. Pretty much breaking most rules gets you warned or kicked out; so just don't break them!
5) Do not quote role PMs or any other form of communication with the Game Moderator unless your role PM explicitly states you can (in which case follow the instructions in your role PM). You may paraphrase your role PM as you see fit, but keep everything in your own words! This is pretty basic. Your role is for your eyes only.
6) All votes must follow the format of "Vote: NAME". This is a basic game mechanic. You can vote for anyone at anytime during the day phase and this is how you do it. Whatever your most recent vote is is the vote that counts. You can change your vote throughout the day phase!
7) You are not required to unvote, however if you do, then please use the format of "Unvote: NAME". This is pretty much if you no longer want to be voting for the person you are currently voting; but don't want to vote anyone else at the current moment; just unvote. Basic mechanic.
8) No Lynch is not a valid vote target.
9) A lynch will occur when a majority of votes has been reached or if a player was the first to reach majority vote at the end of the day phase. Day 1 starts with 9 players, thus it takes 5 votes to lynch someone. The person is lynched, the day phase ends, and then the night phase begins. Alternatively, if they day phase ends with 2 players with 3 votes each, then the first to have reached 3 will win.
10)If a majority has not been reached, then No Lynch is forced as the lynch target. Essentially, if the deadline for a day phase hits, then the day is wasted and no lynch occurs. The game moves into the night phase after this. Rule 10 does not apply in this game as stipulated in rule 9.
11) Deadline for the Day Phase will equal a time of four days. This is essentially a maximum for the amount of time you have to come to a decision for your lynch. If you reach a decision early, then the day ends early!
12) Deadline for the Night Phase will equal a time of two days. Just like rule 1; this is essentially a maximum. If the mafia decides on their kill quickly & any townspeople with night abilities decide on their targets quickly; then night can end quickly. You cannot post during the Night Phase!
13) During any day phase a player may perform the command "Request: Deadline Extension". The deadline will be extended by two days if a majority of players perform this command. This can only be done once over the course of the game and the deadline will not be extended for any other reason. Essentially, if one day you just cannot decide in the time provided; you are able to get up some votes for an extension to allow extra time to discuss things so that the day isn't wasted.
15) Twilight Phase will occur between Day Phase and Night Phase for a variable period. All living players including those about to be lynched will be allowed to communicate in thread until a death scene is posted. Essentially I am not online at all times. So if a lynch is reached and I'm like asleep or working, then you can all still discuss things. When I post the death scene, that's when the day ends and night begins and thus discussion ends for the day.
16) After your death, you are no longer allowed to post in the game thread unless your role PM states otherwise.
17) You are expected to maintain a healthy level of activity in this game. If you have pre-planned absence, then please notify the game mod ahead of time and you will not be prodded. However if your absence is for an unreasonable amount of time, you may be forcibly replaced regardless of advance notification. You will receive a prod every 24 hour period you do not post without note of Vacation/Limited Access. If you go for a period of 72 days without posting or acknowledging prods, you will be replaced or modkilled at the moderators discretion. The 3 day grace period will be shortened by 1 day, to a minimum of 1 day, for every 2 prods you receive. This is basically saying; be active and actually play the game. If you do that instead of lurking and not participating, then you will have no issues.
18) Failure to adhere to rules will result in replacement or modkill based on the moderator's discretion. I said it earlier, but I forget that it was actually a rule too! A note on modkills: If you do something that forces me to kill your slot (like posting your Role PM) that kind of kills the game for everyone. One of the things about mafia is that survival is not part of your win condition. You can die as town or die as mafia and still win, as long as those on your team keep on living. But if I modkill you, then your win condition is changed to you needing to survive to win, and thus you lose.
19) Please avoid using HTML and coloured font in your posts. All colours used in this post are strictly forbidden for use as they are the colours the game moderator will be using.
20) You may ask questions to the game moderator using the command: "@mod: QUESTION". Pretty much if you have a question and you think the answer should be seen by everyone, then feel free to ask it in the thread!
21) Please do not post in code or hidden text. These pretty much defeat the purpose of the game, so don't do it. Foreign languages are permitted as this is 2015 and Google Translate is somewhat functional.
22) You may not post screenshots or anything resembling a screenshot. If someone edits/deletes a post and you screenshot it; awesome! Don't post it in the thread, just PM it to me. Don't post screenshots of any kind; it usually only causes issues.
23) You may not quote logs of communication with other players if your role PM allows you to communicate with other players outside of this thread. You are free to paraphrase. Pretty much, if you can talk with someone outside of the game thanks to your role; don't copy/paste stuff. Paraphrasing is in the spirit of the game!
24) If you have an issue with any of these rules you may privately appeal for a rule's removal via PM.
25) You may privately notify me via PM if you feel another player has violated any rule.
26) Any and all technical data (including PM ID#, Time Sent, View Count, etc...) is considering private information and cannot be quoted or referenced.
27) The game mod will create QuickTopics for all communication purposes (for any roles that allow discussion outside of the thread). When you are killed; you will be given access to a Green Room QuickTopic where you will be able to talk with other dead players (unless otherwise noted in your role PM)!
28) Activity outside of the game thread, including login times and dates, is considered private information and may not be discussed in thread. Put another way, you are only to use information within the game thread to influence in-game decisions.
29) Coco is a woman holy s**t please refer to her as such this is like the third time.
