This is about to be the first big flop of the year but I do really like Magnetic. Hope there’s more songs on the album in that vein.

Being honest I dont mind if he is gonna flop or not because I´ve been waiting for these new songs for so long that I am just a happy fan. I dont have a high expectation that he can sell a lot and so on but he is such a talented and a good artist that even if he was independent I would keep supporting him.

Unless you are a big name A-lister, no one is really selling a lot these days. His single, Miles did peak Top 15 on HAC - no easy feat considering the competition for radio play.
Phillip Phillips is one of the few American Idol winners to even get a 3rd album from a major label, so he's gotten further than most. He really makes most of his money touring - and will be launching "The Magnetic Tour" beginning February 9, 2018 to April 14, 2018 with over 40 shows (the list keeps growing).

I still love Home and Gone, Gone, Gone. I'm so dissapointed he wasn't able to get any more hits.

Really excited for this album. I didn’t like him on AI but I’ve loved his output thus far and “Miles” was a great lead single.

Yeah...this is his best so far. Also, it's IMMACULATELY produced.
1. Into The Wild (a perfect bridge between his old stuff and new and it's better than most of his old stuff anyway...I was waiting for that epic, big, sentimental song and he threw it in at the end like a troll!) 2. Dance With Me (a masterpiece...he is doing Ed Sheeran better than Ed Sheeran LOL. If this doesn't get released as a single, it should at least see success in movies and TV placement. Brilliant that he got out of the way at the end and just let the track continue.) 3. What Will Become Of Us 4. Magnetic. 5. Part Of My Plan 6. I Dare You 7. Her Mystery 8. Miles 9. Love Junkie (legit sexy...) 10. Sand Castles 11. Don't Tell Me 12. My Name
The back half is clearly stronger, but the top half opens well and there are some real gems. Songs 1-5 on my list above are FLAWLESS. His voice sounds completely different. It's higher and less Dave Matthews. I wonder if that was a conscious decision, but it's kind of a weird one because his actual voice isn't particularly distinct, tbh. The songs are strong, though.

This album is really great. I hope the best for him since the album seems like a non-event.
Totally agree that "Dance with Me" could work its way into the mainstream with some ad placements or something. If Ed Sheeran did it, it would blast to #1, and it's better than any of the sappy love songs Ed has done.

I´ve listened to the album a couple of times already and I really liked it.His debut album I guess will always be my favorite one but "Collateral" is a solid album.I noticed he tried to use his voice differently in some songs and I thought it was a good move. The production on the album was also well done.

Need to listen again. I liked the few songs I heard, especially "Magnetic".

I'm a little surprised his album debuted so low. His upcoming tour stop here in San Diego sold out so quickly that they added a second show...which sold out quick as well.
I've heard "Miles" a couple times on the AC station here, not too lately since after the whole Christmas freeze.
Meanwhile, he was a guest star on an episode of Hawaii Five-0 recently:

Appearances like this give him some type of mainstream awareness as a completely indie artist especially as he just announced his new upcoming album. Still a fan of him as he was one of the unexpected favorites out of idol for me for some reason. Shame with all the legal problems with 19 REALLY derailed his the potential of his career and momentum, BUT he’s still been able to carve out a very respectable touring and indie career due to how huge his first two singles were. He’s recent releases actually had decent debut iTunes showings (top 10) and streaming solidly and keeping up in comparison to other AAA, ALT and Hot AC artists that are getting radioplay. He’s one if he ever decided to go major again, I could see really thrive with a label (or a subsidiary) of Elektra Records. He would fit in very well with their current roster and their strengths, including folks like Anderson East, The Band Camino, Fitz and The Tantrums, Brandi Carlile & Christina Perri.
