I bet some of the decreases are due to Christmas songs taking over. I know on the AC charts Christmas stuff is going crazy.

This is one of those Insta-Classic moments in music. People scream about there not being a "Rolling in the Deep" on this album but this song is it's own entity of that capacity. The memes, iTunes/downloads dominance, streaming dominance, social media dominance, ect. is just amazing to see. 6 weeks in and this song is still kicking ass across the board. Whether this breaks anymore records or not, this song has cemented itself within her legacy and the legacy of great music in general. When was the last time a song DEBUTED at #1 and remained there without any faltering weeks for 5+ weeks in the 2000s and 2010s?

It debuted at #1 and stayed there for 6 weeks. #TrueFacts. This will easily get a 7th week at #1 and will break that streak no doubt. The only record in its way is "Candle in the Wind" with 14 consecutive weeks at #1 after debuting on top. I can't see it happening realistically but... this has defied the inevitable already. |

I've noticed a couple weeks ago, that every single day her bullet was getting smaller and smaller. Still is. Well, yes, but that's because it was getting +400s, +500s, +600s prior to peaking. Once it got the top spot and reached 18500 spins, it was close to plateauing. It can't possibly continue getting those massive updates at that high of spin counts because it literally is impossible. The bullet had to shrink, and it will continue to do so as it nears its peak in spins. I bet some of the decreases are due to Christmas songs taking over. I know on the AC charts Christmas stuff is going crazy. Not on pop. Christmas music does not affect pop playlists very much, if at all, until 2-3 days before Christmas. AC, on the other hand, is a completely different story and stations completely flip to Christmas-only music starting as early as Thanksgiving (if not before!). Some hot AC stations do the same. Pop is more affected by New Year's than Christmas. Year-end playlists set the playlists on freeze, essentially. Recurrent airplay increases like crazy in the weeks between December 24-26 and January 3-5, and then things start getting massive updates as playlists resume to normal during the second week of January. This is just plateauing. 19,128 spins. That's 99.625 spins per station. That's ~14.232 spins per day from every station. It's literally getting played more than once per two hours on every station per average! Average! That means there's stations where this is likely getting 100+ spins per week or one per hour or more! A little on the ridiculous side if you ask me. It's not the record, of course. The record holder is Taylor Swift's "Bad Blood" with 104.374 spins per station*. Where "Hello" is at now places it as the sixth highest peaking song in terms of spins per station this year, and well within the top ten all time. Pretty damn high if you ask me. I think peaking here is just fine. It doesn't need this record to justify itself given how many records it has already broken. In a nice world, though, this would break the record and keep it forever because this is really the only song massive enough to "deserve" these extreme amounts of spins and then radio quits over playing songs. *That's ~14.911 spins per day. *shudders* |
