Artist: Old Dominion Single: "Snapback" Writers: Matthew Ramsey, Trevor Rosen, Brad Tursi Album: Meat And CandyLabel: RCA Nashville Add Date: January 4th, 2016 From WIN: "Snapback" will be Old Dominion's second single from their debut album, Meat And Candy. This should be no surprise since Randy Goodman favors tempo tracks for his newer artists and "Snapback" is just that. KMNB in Minneapolis already added the song this week. The Highway has started playing it as well.

I'm very surprised that "Nowhere Fast" wasn't the second single. The Highway has been playing it for months now.

Yawn...... I hear the candy part, (even though the candy is about as tasty as a circus peanut), but I sure as heck don't hear any meat. This the same ol' topic we've heard 10000 times over the past couple of years. I'll pass.

I'm very surprised that "Nowhere Fast" wasn't the second single. The Highway has been playing it for months now. I was always skeptical they would release that second since they've been spinning it on The Highway for so freakin' long. They started playing "Snapback" this week, so right away I knew they would likely go with that instead.

Yawn. At least they aren't talk singing in this one.
Pretty catchy but I'm going to agree: not much meat with this candy.
I don't know any girls who wear a snapback. Also is every new generic country artist given a pair of ray-bans these days? Geez.

Well it's better than "Break Up With Him", that's a start. This one is pretty unoffensive and easy going, so I can definitely see this one grow on me. The instrumentation is pretty unique too, don't have much criticism there. Lyrics are just plain though, and kind of holding this song back. I would have preferred "Wrong Turns".

Great song! Just bought the album today as well as Eric Church And Tim McGraw's! When my company leaves hopefully I can catch up on my album listening! Still have Alan Jackson,Toby Keith and Jana Kramer's newest albums to listen to besides these!

Well, at least this doesn't sound like a Sam Hunt b-side. It's just uninteresting radio fodder delivered by a vanilla voice. Or in other words, a sure fire hit in 2015. Maybe I'm being dense here and there's a new meaning I'm unaware of - but why on earth would a girl be wearing a snapback hat?

I agree, it's not got much to it. But it is undeniably catchy, and the rest of the album sounds great. This fits in. As Shane McAnally put it, "these guys are the real deal."
They are even better live. So so good.

Even though RCA Nashville hasn't given this one an adds date yet, that hasn't stopped this song from getting early airplay as "Snapback" has nearly 130 spins on MB over the past seven days and fell just 40k in total audience short of cracking the Billboard top 60 this week.

I'll admit that I enjoyed Break Up With Him.
Snapback was alright. I think the instrumentation was solid, but the lyrics were just OK.
Maybe we'll find out about the hat in the video?

Haven't heard this yet (probably won't voluntarily, either), but I heard "Said Nobody" on the radio today which was random. I can't remember the last time I heard a non-single on the radio, especially for such a new act.

Gosh Old Dominion keeps proving why their arguably the worst country band out there. First the awful Break Up With Him. Now this song. Gosh this song has got to be one of the most basic songs I've ever heard of ever. You know for how great of songwriters they are you'd figure they'd have more original ideas.

Wow that's an awful single cover. Seriously Old Dominion is the worst. I judge artists on the way their music sounds...not how their single cover looks. Besides this thread, I personally will never see that single cover again so I really don't care how good or bad it looks.

I'd argue that the single covers are better than the music......and THAT's saying something

Stupid question: Why does this have an impact date of January 11 when all indicators were pointing that this would be an instant adder? Is there a reasoning behind all this besides the fact that the Christmas freeze is imminent?

Stupid question: Why does this have an impact date of January 11 when all indicators were pointing that this would be an instant adder? Is there a reasoning behind all this besides the fact that the Christmas freeze is imminent? Well, labels usually like to avoid a December add date when the can, plus the recurrent play for "Break Up With Him" will still be relatively high through the Christmas break. Stations are free to add this whenever they like and the early response is encouraging for them, but I see now problem with the January 11th add date. It's actually similar to when Republic Nashville decided to send "Even If It Breaks Your Heart" for adds in January of 2012, even though "Crazy Girl" was dropping in audience in mid-November of 2011.

The Highway and Old Dominion are apparently attached at the hip. I've heard more of this song than any new release over the past two months on their station and I've probably heard a lifetime worth of "Break Up With Him", "Nowhere Fast" and "Snapback." They play this song all the damn time.
As for the song itself, I actually find this song to be incredibly boring. Enough with the "Whoa oh's". I never expect a song with a subject like this to be super in-depth but this song doesn't expand whatsoever after the first verse. Totally uninteresting, background music.

They also play the heck out of almost anything written by one of the guys, too. Lately that's most notably "Say You Do" and "Save it for a Rainy Day".

Complaining about zero of these last two. ;) Agreed on the "whoa"s. It was the first thing I yelled at this song for. I'll admit it's catchy and gets stuck in my head even upon reading the title of this thread, but the lyrics are so bad, and I'm just so bored by the whole sentiment of the song. Oh hey girl, you're hot, we should be making out. Because we've NEVER heard that anywhere before...

That January add date doesn't mean too much right now as "Snapback" got 19 adds this week (37 total MB stations) and is already up to #44 on the rolling chart. Its gained 112 spins and 900k in audience over the past four days and is currently #52 on the Country iTunes chart. Its been helped out by medium rotation on multiple big market stations like Minneapolis (2X), Orlando, Pittsburgh, Oklahoma City, Denver, Atlanta and Boston...and that's with the heavy recurrent play still going on with "Break Up With Him."
This group is on fire right now with country radio and Sony Music Nashville might have hit a home-run.

This one will definitely scream up the charts (relatively speaking) as OD clearly has a knack for making catchy melodious tunes that can appeal to many types of fans.
But, as the new influx of pop fans continue their fickle tastes, I imagine OD will have a short radio lifespan.

This is good, but quite simple and not extremely memorable. Anything would be better than "Break Up With Him" at this point though. I never liked it and the fact that it would not die didn't help at all. I wouldn't turn this if it came on the radio, but I'm not sure it packs enough of a punch for me to seek out on my own. It's boring and so are their vocals.

Why the hell is radio giving them a chance? They don't even have great music? Their album chart debut proves that people do not favor them as much as a band.

Why the hell is radio giving them a chance? They don't even have great music? Their album chart debut proves that people do not favor them as much as a band. They sing catchy, upbeat melodies that caters to radio's trending demo and they're coming off a huge #1 single, with a strong label backing them. That's why radio is giving them a chance.
