I didn't see a thread about this, so I thought I'd start one. I only know one song from them ("Cheater, Cheater"), but I've been seeing articles about her on social media. Apparently, she has entered hospice care and is in the last days of her life. She's only 40 years old, and will be leaving behind her husband and musical partner and their 10-month-old daughter. I started listening to "When I'm Gone" in the car the other day, but didn't get to finish listening to the entire song yet. Apparently, her fans are starting a campaign to get this song to #1 on iTunes, and it is currently sitting in the Top 10 on the country chart.
Just so heartbreaking. My prayers go out to Joey and her family.

I have never been a follower of Joey + Rory, but I listened to "When I'm Gone" yesterday because I noticed that Terri Clark shared it on Twitter. Holy crap, what a song... I could barely make it through without crying, especially knowing what she is going through now... I will definitely look into more of their stuff.

Huge fan of Joey + Rory and I highly recommend anyone who isn't familiar with their discography to definitely give their music a chance. They are absolutely wonderful and the hand that they've been dealt is incredibly disheartening. I will certainly miss Joey's unbelievably beautiful voice. "When I'm Gone" is an especially mesmerizing song even more so now than it was when they first put it out a few years ago. <3

I realized that this will be the first time I'm losing an artist I call myself a fan of. I'm grateful that they made so many albums together in the short time that they recorded as a duo. I only wish they could've been heard by a lot more people than they were, but the overwhelming out-pour of love for Joey is wonderful to see. It's been nice to see several members here express interest in checking out their music, even though it isn't through ideal circumstances. :( I think she has one of the most beautiful singing voices I've honestly ever heard. So, so unique. And their neo-traditional musical output and genuineness were a real treat. <3

I met them at a local small town fish fry of all places one time in Ohio. Great people. Very genuine and nice. Sad to hear of this story.

I've followed Joey + Rory since Cheater was released. I was very sad to hear about this situation. In all the videos I've seen, Joey seems so down to earth and humble and pleasant.

I love Joey + Rory...I have since the days of "Cheater." No, I'm not their biggest fan, by any means. But, they have a quality that is unparalleled in today's business. It is so heartbreaking, yet so rewarding that at least us fans got the opportunity to hear their music together while Joey was good and healthy. I love "His And Hers," "When I'm Gone," "That's Important To Me," "Cheater," and "Just A Cup of Coffee." Those would be my favorites. I would say the first two albums are stronger than the latter two. But, both His And Hers as well as Made To Last both had some great material. My heart breaks for their family, but as fans we received a beautiful voice in country music. I am grateful for that. I wish the entire family peace during such a hard time.

This is just so terrible. I really hope she can at the very least make it another month or so until after the holidays, so she can spend at least one more Christmas and New Year's with her family. :(

No one said I was going to need a box of tissues for that tribute video. I should've expected it though. Oh my heart breaks for them.

Some recent updates: Joey saying goodbye to her best friend, Julie: Read it all here: thislifeilive.com/st-jules/Also, Rory has made a statement that he doesn't plan to continue performing/singing without his wife. The article also talks briefly about the duo's final project, Hymns That Are Important to Us, which comes out in a few weeks. I'm not surprised. He'll go back to songwriter, publisher and dad. He probably will sing from time to time with Heidi if she asks him to.

Joey + Rory's new album Hymns That Are Important To Us came out on February 12, and it's heading for a very strong debut. Here are the HITS projections for this week: Adele (XL/Columbia) 160-180k album, 190-210k SPS Chris Stapleton (Mercury Nashville) 55-60k, 63-68k Justin Bieber (RBMG/Def Jam) 45-50k, 95-100k *Joey+Rory (Gaither) 43-48k, 46-51kNow 57 (NOW/Legacy) 41-46k Rihanna (Westbury Road/Roc Nation) 35-40k, 75-80k The Weeknd (XO/Republic) 28-32k, 53-58k 2016 Grammy Nominees (Republic) 27-30k Taylor Swift (Big Machine) 27-30k, 40-45k Kendrick Lamar (TDE/Interscope) 24-27k, 30-35k Sam Hunt (MCA Nashville) 24-27k, 35-40k Coldplay (Parlophone) 21-24k, 28-33k A lot of these albums are seeing big sales bumps due to the Grammys, so I think that that makes Joey + Rory's sales extra impressive. Billboard is reporting that their album will chart on both the Top Christian Albums chart and the Top Country Albums chart. It'll easily debut at #1 on Top Christian albums, and probably at #2 on Top Country Albums (only behind Stapleton). www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6882511/joey-rory-first-number-1-christian-albums-chart

Congratulations, Joey + Rory!:
Country duo Joey + Rory score a career high week with the arrival of their new inspirational album Hymns, at No. 4. The effort bows with 70,000 units (68,000 in pure album sales), logging their first top 10 album on the Billboard 200 and best sales week ever.
The album also crowns both Top Country Albms and Top Christian Albums -- their first leader on both tallies. Hymns was released on Feb. 12 through the pair’s own Farmhouse Recordings label.

I am glad to see them get this success with this project while Joey's still around to enjoy it. Her dream project hit #1. Remember this was done to leave a legacy for baby Indiana and Joey's family. Now we all get to share in the project.

As heartbreaking as this story is, I'm so happy that so many good things have come out of such a terrible ordeal.
Joey saw the Grammy's, and got to celebrate her daughter's birthday, along with seeing the incredible response and outpouring of love that their blog (and music), has brought to so many people who may not have been familiar with them before Joey's diagnoses.
As someone who has lost several people to cancer, I really can't imagine documenting everything- good and bad- for the whole world to see. The strength, love, and zest for life that J&R share is one of the most beautiful things I have witnessed in a long time.
As it was so aptly put in another article, "Why does it say say Joey is dying of cancer? She is living."

It's really remarkable how much Hymns That Are Important to Us sold in its first week; I expected it to easily be their best-selling release because that wasn't going to be hard at all to do, but still it is quite impressive. It's a shame given the circumstances that got people's attention enough to buy it because they've been around for 8 years now putting out great albums, but I am glad that they're enjoying such an outpouring of love from people because of the story as @snappy put it.

I'm not surprised. He'll go back to songwriter, publisher and dad. He probably will sing from time to time with Heidi if she asks him to. I can easily see him continue to exploit his wife with some random book deal. I get a lot of you are fans, but this guy has been pandering, pushing, and using Joey's illness for his own personal agenda. I don't want to seem crass but he kicked it up into high gear for Grammy voting season and the release of their Hymns album. From the average fan's point of view, it seemed like a touching tribute. But I've heard more than one person in the industry flat out call it what it is, a chance to capitalize on a tragic situation without looking like the bad guy. Every up update has conincided with specific voting deadlines and releases to keep them in the forefront of people's minds.

Joey and Rory are both simply the most wonderful people. I know them personally and Joey's family and can completely vouch for their character. Joey and Rory were neither rich people going into this, so to say that he was using her death for his own gain is ridciolous, the fans wanted to know how she was doing and he kept them informed. That is it.

Every up update has conincided with specific voting deadlines and releases to keep them in the forefront of people's minds. Lots of families use a blog or something to keep family and friends in the loop when a family member is sick. Theirs just happens to be more scrutinized by the public eye because they just so happen to be famous enough to have people in the general public who care about them as fans. If one of my favorite singers were in Joey's position, I would follow their blog religiously out of concern for how they are doing on any given day, because I am a fan who genuinely cares about them. Also, I don't know about you, but if I were a musician who was nominated for a Grammy, I would turn to social media to get the word out to my fans and the general public that I had been nominated and that I was excited about it. And if you created that music with your wife, who happens to be dying, as a sort of gift to your child to help them remember their mother after she was gone, would that not make the nomination that much sweeter, and warrant it being a cause for great excitement in your life? It's not like the fact that Joey is dying suddenly means that they cannot be excited about being nominated for a serious industry award without it being an act of shameless self-promotion... Especially considering that this album release and Grammy nomination was probably their last hoorah, as she is going to die and he has stated he is not going to continue making music without her. Honestly, if you have to use a disclaimer that you "don't want to seem crass", that is a pretty good indication that you already know you should not say what you were going to say... This woman is slowly shriveling away due to a long and painful battle with a disease that is killing her from the inside out. Show a little respect for the man who has done everything he possibly can to comfort her through that, and is going to be left picking up the pieces after she is gone...
