15. Lampshades On Fire - Modest MouseAlternative Rock's comeback of the year has to go to Modest Mouse.Peak: 2(2)Wks: 26Album: Strangers to OurselvesTrack: 2Genre: Alternative Rock
lyrics: Mmm buh, buh, buh, buh, buh, buh, buh-duh-dah Duh, duh, duh, duh, duh, duh, duh-duh-dah
We’re all goin’, we’re all goin’
Well, the lampshade’s on fire when the lights go out The room lit up and we ran about Well, this is what I really call a party now Packed up our cars, moved to the next town
Well, the lampshades’s on fire when the lights go out This is what I really call a party now Well, fear makes us really, really run around This one’s done so where to now?
Our eyes light up, we have no shame at all Well you all know what I’m talking’ about Shaved off my eyebrows when I fall to the ground So I can’t look surprised right now
Pack up again, head to the next place Where we'll make the same mistakes Burn it up, or just chop it down Ah, this one's done so where to now?
Buh, buh, buh, buh, buh, buh, buh-duh-dah Duh, duh, duh, duh, duh, duh, duh-duh-dah
We're all goin’, we're all goin’
Well, the lampshade’s on fire when the lights go out This is what I really call a party now Well, fear makes us really, really run around Ah, this one's done so where to now?
Our eyes light up, we have no shame at all Well, you all know what I'm talkin’ about The room lights up, well, we're still dancing around We're havin’ fun, havin’ some for now
Pack up again, head to the next place Where we'll make the same mistakes Open one up and let it fall to the ground Pile out the door when it all runs out
Buh, buh, buh, buh, buh, buh, buh-duh-dah Duh, duh, duh, duh, duh, duh, duh-duh-dah
We're all goin’, we're all goin’
We have spines in our bones We'll eat your food, we'll throw stones
Oh, this is how it's always gone And this is how it's goin’ to go
Well, we're the human race We're goin’ to party out of this place And then move on
Tough love
We'll kill you off and then make a clone Yeah, we got spines, yeah, we have bones This is how it's always gone And this is how it's goin’ to go
As our feelings are getting hurt Ah, we want you to do the work Our ass looks great inside these jeans Well, we all just don’t wanna’ clean Oh, this is how it's always been And this is how it's goin’ to be So, you just move on
The air’s on fire so we’re movin’ on Better find another one ‘cause this one’s done Waitin’ for the magic when the scientists glow To push, push, push, push, pull us up
Spend some time to float in outer space Find another planet, make the same mistakes Our mind’s all shattered when we climb aboard Hopin’ for the scientists to find another door

14. Fool's Gold - Fitz and the Tantrums.....and yet another #1 song ;on my charts, off "More Than Just A Dream" comes to a total of 4 ,#1 songs. "6AM" was my #1 song of 2014Peak: 1Wks: 25Album: More Than Just A DreamTrack: 6Genre: Neo-Soul/Indie Pop
lyrics: Oh, maybe I just wasn't good enough To blow your mind, you know I've tried. Them silver lines they cut like blades of glass Not worth the blood we've shed for love.
So give it up, stop beating, hearts have gone cold Had enough repeating, it's all been done before. Give it up, stop beating, hearts have gone cold Hey now, when we gonna wake up?
But fools gold shines like diamonds in our eyes Thought we had a million, but, baby, we got nothing But fools gold shines like words that make us cry We just keep on digging, find us something better For the next time, next time Something better for the next time, next time
So maybe I just wasn't strong enough To tow the line, make true the lies. The fortune found, now it's all locked away We've lost the key, hard to believe.
So give it up, stop beating, hearts have gone cold Had enough repeating, it's all been done before. Give it up, stop beating, hearts have gone cold Hey now, when we gonna wake up?
But fools gold shines like diamonds in our eyes Thought we had a million, but, baby, we got nothing But fools gold shines like words that make us cry We just keep on digging, find us something better For the next time, next time Something better for the next time, next time
Oh, baby, I just wasn't good enough 'Cause, baby, I just wasn't strong enough
But fools gold shines like diamonds in our eyes Thought we had a million, but, baby, we got nothing But fools gold shines like words that make us cry We just keep on digging, find us something better
But fools gold shines like diamonds in our eyes Thought we had a million, but, baby, we got nothing But fools gold shines like words that make us cry We just keep on digging, find us something better For the next time, next time Something better for the next time, next time Something better for the next time, next time Something better for the next time, next time

12. Ship To Wreck - Florence and the MachineOne of my favorite Alternative Rock songs for years to come. Great lyrics to a song about self destruction.Peak: 2(3)Wks: 25Album: How Big, How Blue, How BeautifulTrack: 1Genre: Indie Alternativelyrics: Don't touch the sleeping pills, they mess with my head, Dredging the Great White Sharks, swimming in the bed, And here comes a Killer Whale, to sing me to sleep, Thrashing the covers off, it has me by it's teeth.
And oh my love remind me, what was it that I said? I can't help but pull the earth around me, to make my bed And oh my love remind me, what was it that I did? Did I drink too much? Am I losing touch? Did I build this ship to wreck?
To wreck, to wreck, to wreck, Did I build this ship to wreck?
What's with the long face? Do you want more? Thousands of red-eyed mice, scratching at the door, Don't let the curtain catch you, cause you've been here before, The chair is an island darling, you can't touch the floor,
And oh my love remind me, what was it that I said? I can't help but pull the earth around me, to make my bed And oh my love remind me, what was it that I did? Did I drink too much? Am I losing touch? Did I build this ship to wreck?
To wreck, to wreck, to wreck, Did I build this ship to wreck?
And good God, under starry skies we are lost, And into the breach we got tossed, And the water's coming in fast!
To wreck, to wreck, to wreck, Did I build this ship to wreck?

11. Pressure Off (featuring Janelle Monáe and Nile Rodgers) - Duran DuranThe 80's Pop icons; Duran Duran, released their first single of "Paper Gods" and was pure 1986 Pop Candy. It had #1 written all over it. Only one song denied it; it's rightful place, and that honour went to my #1 song of 2015. Peak: 2(4)Wks: 24Album: Paper GodsTrack: 4Genre: New Wave
lyrics: [Duran Duran:] Steppin' out, steppin' out, steppin' out, and jumpin' up and Steppin' out, steppin' out, steppin' out, and jumpin' up and Steppin' out, steppin' out, steppin' out, and jumpin' up and Pressure off, pressure off, pressure pressure pressure off
[Duran Duran:] Past is another country The present will never last The future, it's still tomorrow Are we living too fast?
[Duran Duran:] Searchlight the crowd, I'm fixed on your face I know it well, but it's a dream I can't place Something is happening to me Maybe it's happening to you, you, you, you
[Duran Duran & Janelle Monáe:] Everybody everywhere, feel it in the air Oh yeah, it's time to take the pressure off Everybody everywhere, step out into the future It's time to take the pressure off

[Duran Duran & Janelle Monáe:] Everybody everywhere, feel it in the air Oh yeah (oh yeah), it's time to take the pressure off Everybody everywhere, step out into the future It's time to take the pressure off

[Janelle Monáe:] I'm lost, don't wanna be found I'm up and not gonna be down Outside looking in on myself Just me, I couldn't be anyone else Is it bad when you're feeling this good? Are we all misunderstood? It's fine, going out of my mind Going out of my mind, going out of my mind
[Janelle Monáe:] Everybody everywhere (yeah), feel it in the air (whoo!) Oh yeah (oh yeah), it's time to take the pressure off Everybody everywhere, step out into the future It's time to take the pressure off

I could have really loved you Never wanted to say
So long china Shanghai flower So long china I hope you find what you're looking for...
Ya know I'll miss the tiger in your eyes The way you saw the world was sad and beautiful Now I see it all So many times I tried to read your mind Free the secret pain that's holding you prisoner Seemed impossible
I know I won't forget you I never wanted to say
So long china Shanghai flower So long china I guess I wanted something more
I thought you might want to save it Before these silver engines touch the sky...fly high I can hardly believe it I'm leaving and this really is goodbye...you know I tried
I could have really loved you Never wanted to say
So long china Shanghai flower So long china I'm gone forever So long china I hope you find what you're looking for So long china Shanghai flower So long china I'm gone forever So long china

9. Absolution Calling - IncubusAlmost everyone I know; thought this shoulda been a big hit for the classic Alt band. Everone, except the actual Rock/Alt charts. On my weekly chart; it easily went to #1 for a monthPeak: 1(4)Wks: 22Album: Trust Fall (Side A) E.P.Track: 3Genre: Alternative Rock
lyrics: It's like an intuition or a feeling in the air An intangible impression that's always everywhere You bit into the apple, laid down your sword an shield (Untie! A little bit dies, a little each time, the medicine smile) Then spun 'round like a gyre in the unified field! (Inside, your elegant guide, an arrow in flight a million miles)
I remember feeling the opposite of falling (Into that spot where we untie every knot) Spinning past the ceiling, absolution calling... "Are you there, or not?"
It's an open invitation, come see the sights of sages We've been a pride of lions so afraid to leave our cages Don't fret over the pieces that smolder in the sun (Untie! A little bit dies, a little each time, the medicine smile) 'Cause nothing can be broken when everything is one (Inside, your elegant guide, an arrow in flight a million miles)
I remember feeling the opposite of falling (Into that spot where we untie every knot) Spinning past the ceiling, absolution calling... "Are you there, or not?"
You bit into the apple, laid down your sword an shield (Untie!

6. Can't Break Me Down - Billy IdolBilly idol was destined to be #1 on my chart; for classic 80's status alone. It didn't hurt that this song was ultra catchy and powerful with lyrics that just roll off your tongue as you sing along..Peak: 1(4)Wks: 29Album: Kings & Queens of the UndergroundTrack: 2Genre: New Wave
lyrics: The devil’s house in the shape of a chapel You hid the knife in the core of an apple Burn me, try to hurt me Try to hit me when my back was turning
I saw you wait when the shadows were growing You’re talking straight But your colors are showing Burn me, try to hurt me Try to get me when my head was turning
You want to rain on my survival story You’re crazy baby ‘cause I’ve never had a doubt I’m singin’ songs about love and glory Oh oh oh
Your gun went BANG BANG BANG You shot me to the ground But you can’t break me down BANG BANG BANG You tried to knock me out No, you can’t break me down
It’s just my natural reaction When I hit the floor I’m the original assassin I come up for more
You put me up so you can watch me crumble I always knew you were some kind of trouble Lurking, you can’t hurt me ‘cause I see just how your evil’s working
A silver tongue with the best of intentions But you’re a child with the cruelest inventions Burning, you’re just hurtin’ I know somewhere deep in hell you’re workin’
You want to rain on my survival story You’re crazy baby ‘cause I never had a doubt I’m singing songs about love and glory Oh oh oh
Your gun went BANG BANG BANG You shot me to the ground But you can’t bring me down BANG BANG BANG You try to knock me out No, you can’t break me down
It’s just my natural reaction When I hit the floor I’m the original assassin I come up for more
You don’t know what you started You hit but missed the target
BANG BANG BANG You shot me to the ground But you can’t break me down BANG BANG BANG You tried to knock me out No, you can’t break me down
It’s just my natural reaction When I hit the floor I’m the original assassin I come up for more

5. Shut Up and Dance - WALK THE MOONUltra catchiness is pretty much the theme this song. The 80's vibe on this song is a good as it can get. This song was huge on all charts. Even the top 40 couldn't resist the energy of this classic. Peak: 1(2)Wks: 32Album: Talking Is HardTrack: 3Genre: Power Pop
lyrics: "Oh don't you dare look back. Just keep your eyes on me." I said, "You're holding back, " She said, "Shut up and dance with me!" This woman is my destiny She said, "Ooh-ooh-hoo, Shut up and dance with me."
We were victims of the night, The chemical, physical, kryptonite Helpless to the bass and the fading light Oh, we were bound to get together, Bound to get together.
She took my arm, I don't know how it happened. We took the floor and she said,
"Oh, don't you dare look back. Just keep your eyes on me." I said, "You're holding back, " She said, "Shut up and dance with me!" This woman is my destiny She said, "Ooh-ooh-hoo, Shut up and dance with me."
A backless dress and some beat up sneaks, My discothèque, Juliet teenage dream. I felt it in my chest as she looked at me. I knew we were bound to be together, Bound to be together
Oh, come on girl!
Deep in her eyes, I think I see the future. I realize this is my last chance.
She took my arm, I don't know how it happened. We took the floor and she said,
"Oh, don't you dare look back. Just keep your eyes on me." I said, "You're holding back, " She said, "Shut up and dance with me!" This woman is my destiny She said, "Ooh-ooh-hoo, Shut up and dance!"
"Don't you dare look back. Just keep your eyes on me." I said, "You're holding back, " She said, "Shut up and dance with me!" This woman is my destiny She said, "Ooh-ooh-hoo, Shut up and dance with me."

4. Angel - Theory Of A DeadmanThis year; the Active charts, recognized a great Power ballad. A slow burner on all charts. Including mine, but; never the less, went to the top. Peak: 1(3)Wks: 32Album: SavagesTrack: 6Genre: Power Ballad
lyrics: I’m in love with an angel, heaven forbid Made me a believer with the touch of her skin
I’d go to hell and back with you Stay lost in what we found. Worlds apart we were the same Until we hit the ground
Maybe I’m crazy, maybe I’m weak Maybe I’m blinded by what I see You wanted a soldier but it wasn't me 'Cause I could never set you free
So fly on your own It’s time I let you go Go
I’m in love with an angel who’s afraid of the light Her halo is broken but there's fight in her eyes
Walls are built to keep us safe Until they’re crashing down Worlds apart we were the same Until you hit the ground
Maybe I’m crazy, maybe I’m weak Maybe I’m blinded by what I see You wanted a soldier but it wasn't me 'Cause I could never set you free
So fly on your own It’s time I let you go Go
Walls are built to keep us safe Until they’re crashing down Worlds apart we were the same Until you hit the ground
Maybe I’m crazy, maybe I’m weak Maybe I’m blinded by what I see You wanted a soldier but it wasn't me 'Cause I could never set you free
So fly on your own It’s time I let you go
So fly on your own It’s time I let you go Go

3. Hallelujah - Panic! At The DiscoPanic! are no strangers to the top of my year end charts. Six weeks as my #1 song, makes this my favorite Panic! At The Disco song ever.Peak: 1(6)Wks: 32Album: Death of a BachelorTrack: 3Genre: Alternative
lyrics: Oh! A moment you'll never remember And a night you'll never forget! Oh!
[Chorus:] All you sinners stand up, sing hallelujah (hallelujah!) Show praise with your body Stand up, sing hallelujah (hallelujah!) And if you can't stop shaking, lean back Let it move right through ya (hallelujah!) Say your prayers [3x] (Hallelujah!)
My life started the day I got caught Under the covers With secondhand lovers Oh, tied up in pretty young things In a state of emergency Who was I tryna be?
Then the time for being sad is over And you miss 'em like you miss no other And being blue is better than being over it (over it)
[Chorus]
I was drunk and it didn't mean a thing Stop thinking about The bullets from my mouth I love the things you hate about yourself Just finished a daydream Who were you tryna be?
Then the time for being sad is over And you miss 'em like you miss no other And being blue is better than being over it (over it)
No one wants you when you have no heart and I'm sitting pretty in my brand new scars and You'll never know if you don't ever try again So let's try Let's try Let's try
[Chorus 2x]

2. Reflections - MisterWivesJust like Echosmith did in 2014; MisterWives became my favorite Indie Pop of 2015. Mandy Lee's incredible unique and powerful vocals also took this song to the Alternative charts; where it became a moderate top 40 hit. Thanks to the below 50 Madiabase charts, I was aware of this song long before it actually charted in the Alt top 40.Peak: 1(4)Wks: 36Album: Our Own HouseTrack: 3Genre: Indie Pop
lyrics: You didn't close the door Left a crack open I couldn't ignore the faint possibility Of having hope in this insanity That we still could be But we're stuck floating in between
Put me on the shelf; discipline myself To let the sparks die out Shattering anything That has reflections of you Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh You Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Our eyes were closed With hearts open wide Dismissed every rule to abide by Our bodies undressed the layers of shy Revealing the truth that was buried inside Filled up feelings That now are bursting at the seams
Put me on the shelf; discipline myself To let the sparks die out Shattering anything That has reflections of you Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh You Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Unsure of what are my dreams it seems You have stolen my slumber And awakened another Life within me that is better than any other Reaching endless heights in never ending nights That can't be seen; put to bed this dream Oh-oh-oh-oh-ohh Oh oh Oh
Put me on the shelf; discipline myself To let the sparks die out Shattering anything That has reflections of you Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh You Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh You Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh You Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh

Time for my #1 song of 2015. Have y'all been paying attention? It's the song that spent the most amount of weeks at #1. In fact; it spent double the amount of time That "Hallelujah" did. It was only able to be dethroned by 80s icons; Def Leppard. The song for me perfectly captured the vibe of New Wave Synth Pop song. A song; that I would consider perfect in all aspects. Intro, Outro, melody, vocals , perfect fusion of Guitar and synths and even the title was one and only. So without any further waiting; I announce Dr. Indie's #1 song of 2015.

1. Molecules - Atlas Geniusoriginal cover art
my original cover art.
The original version of the song; appearing on the album had something missing and sounded a tad flat. The new titled (single version) added a great intro and a few more lines in the bridge to last chorus. Small differences, but really made the song all the more powerful. This is truly a song; that will keep me in the car, even after I turn the engine off. few songs have had that effect on me. "Say It Ai'nt So" by Weezer. "Photograph" by Def Leppard, "More Than A Feeling" by Boston, "Jessie's Girl" by Rick Springfield and of course "Let's Go" from The CarsPeak: 1(12)Wks: 24(and counting)Album: Inanimate Objects (iTunes edition bonus track)Track: 12Genre: Indie Synth Poplyrics: We steal the molecules from the dead We liberate inanimate objects Is this a path of will up ahead? Or are we just destined to get what we get?
True to your face like never before Even the mistakes aren't really mistakes at all
I wanna confess that you own me And we don't rest if we're lonely There's innocence in the moment Maybe now's the time to be alive
We steal the molecules from the dead We liberate inanimate objects Is this a sign of will in our head? Or are we predestined to get what we get?
True to your face like never before Even the mistakes aren't really mistakes at all
I wanna confess that you own me And we don't rest if we're lonely There's innocence in the moment Maybe now's the time to be alive
We'd been dressed as humans We Were Kings and Homeless We're just fragments of a great collide
I wanna confess that you own me And we don't rest if we're lonely There's innocence in the moment Maybe now's the time to be alive There's innocence in the moment Maybe now's the time to be alive Maybe now's the time to be alive
