At least it's not "Ex To See" so I can finally breathe a sigh of relief. That would've been a big mistake.

While I'm disappointed "Raised On It" won't be making its way to terrestrial radio, "Make You Miss Me" is a solid choice.

Wouldn't this be the sixth single?

Wouldn't this be the sixth single? "Raised on It" never went to actual radio stations before "Leave the Night On" was released; it was just played by satellite radio, so it wasn't an official 'single.'

According to his wikipedia page, "Raised on It" was his first single, peaking at #49 in 2013. Some sources say it was a single that they released independently and was later included on Montevallo. Personally, I'd consider that his debut single if it charted on Billboard.

According to his wikipedia page, "Raised on It" was his first single, peaking at #49 in 2013. Anybody can edit Wikipedia. "Raised On It" was only a Sirius/XM single. It got (and continues) to get airplay from a couple stations but it was not a terrestrial radio single, which is what the article I linked from that radio station was referring to -- terrestrial radio.

Yessssss. Brilliant song. Definitely the best he's ever recorded in my mind. Love that chorus.

Second attempt to get four #1s off this album. I hope Sam Hunt and MCA are successful. The album is still selling well for a 'fifth or sixth' single, depending on your point of view.

I think this song is pretty boring. It doesn't bring anything new, and it's too Adult Contemporary sounding for my liking. Easily my least favorite song of his, and will definitely be a station changer for me. The tempo is also pretty similar to "Take Your Time" IMO, and I think "Speakers" or even "Raised On It" would have been a much better choice. I do think this will be a big hit though, although at this point that's not really a risky prediction.

Personally, I'd consider that his debut single if it charted on Billboard. "Raised On It" was a SiriusXM single only. It was an independent release prior to Sam's signing with UMG Nashville. The only reason that ROI has charted on Billboard is because a couple of stations have started to play it these last few months. When this happens (stations playing an album track that's not a single), it's considered unsolicited airplay. It appears that 3 stations elected to play "Raised On It" instead of "Break Up In A Small Town", likely because they felt that BUIAST was too pop-sounding. An additional handful of stations have given airplay to both ROI and BUIAST. Anyway, I think "Make You Miss Me" was the best choice that they could have made for Sam's new single. There's still not really anything country-sounding about it, but that doesn't matter to country radio. This is gonna be another big hit for Sam, probably another #1. I like the "whoa-oh-ohs" at the beginning of the chorus, and I'm always saying we need more songs that feature the piano, so that's a big plus with this one.

Not quite Single for the Summer but this will do As much as I love "Single For The Summer," I'm not surprised at all that it wasn't issued as a single. It's one of the least-selling songs on the Double Platinum (thank you streaming) Montevallo and "Make You Miss Me" is 1/2 way to Gold (which matters to label). They also probably wanted something that bridges the gap a bit as they transition out of this album to the next. I don't know if "Single..." Would do that.

This should be another big hit for Sam. "Raised On It" would have been my choice, and I think that "Single For The Summer" and "Ex To See" are better songs, but this is a good choice too. It'll probably be a bridge between the first and second albums, which I would expect out by the end of the year.

Piano solo and violin in the first 10 seconds makes this sound great then BOOM R & B with no semblance to country music. Talented artist but this belongs on popular radio.

Whether we think it's country or not, fans of every other genre classify it as country and don't really want to hear it. The other day I was with two non-country fans and played the most pop/R&B leaning country songs and asked them what genre they were. By the first lyric, they both said country. A lot of people don't like country. You may not want it on country radio, but it doesn't fit anywhere else.

This makes me incredibly happy. Other than "Leave the Night On" and "House Party", this one is my favorite on the album. While I enjoy "Raised on It", I am much happier about this one!

Sam Hunt is so white hot right now that he got his own show at CRS on Tuesday nights. Most UMG acts got to play just one song during the UMG luncheon Tuesday afternoon, but Sam played pretty much a full show at the Ryman on Tuesday night. Here's a write-up from CMT: Source: CMT

Something in this songs framing doesn't exactly sit right now. Maybe it's Sam Hunt saying "I'm gonna make you miss me" something about that line doesn't sit right with me. I do like the production at least as the Piano is a nice touch for this song and Sam Hunt sounds like he's trying. So at the end of the day my overall thoughts on this song are Meh!

You're not forced to listen to anything. I change the station when he comes on. You can too. No. I'm tired of this attitude that radio is allowed to play whatever they want and I'm supposed to play along just cause they say so. I want to listen to the radio. The reason I listen to country music is because of finding a country station many years ago. It is incredibly frustrating to me that in the time since I have watched the genre get twisted into something meaningless. What am I supposed to say makes a country song these days? The instrumentation is full of electronic effects and shrieking guitar solos. The lyrics? I hear that "Break Up in a Small Town" is country because small towns are country. You what else is country? Whiskey. Who sang a song called "Whiskey In the Jar?" Metallica. Am I supposed to call Metallica country? I don't think that being contemporary and being country are mutually exclusive. There are artists all over the place making music that is a modern evolution of traditional country, all the way from names like Brad Paisley and Dierks Bentley in Nashville to lesser-known Texas artists. Which is why (cause I got to get semi back on topic at some point) I get so disgusted that Sam Hunt's singles are the ones that are reliably flying up the charts. Im willing to bet that this'll be a number one song on the country charts and I don't think that it is deserving of that in the slightest.

Radio CAN play whatever they want. It's not up to people like us to decide, lol. Get over it.

This has always been my favorite from the album, so I'm so glad to see this get released. I love the harmonies on the chorus and the piano. It should have no problem smashing.

Why not support the ones you like the most or that style more, whether it's on the radio or not, than get angry or frustrated about others that are played. Support those acts you like by buying their music, streaming their music/videos, buying concert tickets and merch at the shows. THAT will do more than you could ever imagine for those artists (big and small). The debate about what is or isn't country music is as old as the genre itself.

Good post! :) Plus support them by helping them out on kickstarter and pledgemusic, etc. You'd be amazed at what " bigger" sub-scene names are without a record company and go from EP or album to album by crowd-funding.
