This year is going down as possibly my favorite year in country music in a very long time. Below is my top ten favorite albums of the year (with noteworthy tracks) including many honorable mentions. I would've added Cam's Untamed to my top ten but it was released at an odd time in mid December of last year (still a fantastic album from beginning to end). A few of us on Pulse became huge fans of a singer-songwriter named Gregory Alan Isakov this year and I'm very excited to see what he releases next; hope anyone that hasn't given it a listen will ;)
Favorite Albums of the Year:
1. A Sailor's Guide to Earth - Sturgill Simpson ("Breakers Roar," "In Bloom," and "All Around You")
2. Gregory Alan Isakov with the Colorado Symphony - Gregory Alan Isakov ("Liars," "Dandelion Wine," "The Stable Song," and "Amsterdam")
3. The Bird & the Rifle - Lori McKenna ("Giving Up on Your Hometown," "Humble & Kind," "Old Men Young Women")
4. The Weight of These Wings - Miranda Lambert ("Runnin' Just in Case," "Getaway Driver," "Tin Man")
5. The Things That We Are Made Of - Mary Chapin Carpenter ("The Middle Ages," "What Does It Mean To Travel," "Note on a Windshield")
6. Big Day in a Small Town - Brandy Clark ("Homecoming Queen," "You Can Come Over," "Love Can Go To Hell")
7. Tradition Lives - Mark Chesnutt ("Oughta Miss Me By Now," "So You Can't Hurt Me Anymore," "There Won't Be Another Now")
8. Midwest Farmer's Daughter - Margo Price ("Hands of Times," "Tennessee Song," "Hurtin (On the Bottle)")
9. Pawn Shop - Brothers Osborne ("21 Summer," "Stay A Little Longer," "Loving Me Back" feat. Lee Ann Womack)
10. Shine on Rainy Day - Brent Cobb ("Solving Problems" and "Let the Rain Come Down")
Honorable Mentions: (in no particular order)
Behind This Guitar - Mo Pitney Down to My Last Bad Habit - Vince Gill The Driver - Charles Kelley Fighter - David Nail Full Circle - Loretta Lynn Lovers and Leavers - Hayes Carll Midland (EP) - Midland Midnight Hotel - Jack Ingram Nothing Shines Like Neon - Randy Rogers Band Pure & Simple - Dolly Parton Ripcord - Keith Urban Robert Ellis - Robert Ellis Southern Family - Various Artists Swimmin' Pools, Movie Stars - Dwight Yoakam Vinyl - William Michael Morgan Wynonna & The Big Noise - Wynonna & The Big Noise
Biggest Disappointments:

Most of the vets are in the bottom because I expected more than an album of lightweight fluff from them. And Miranda's album runs together and the first disc sounds like she's trying to eat the microphone while singing.

I edited my Top 10 albums of the year because I somehow forgot the incredible Southern Family. I put that album at #2 and removed Like An Arrow by Blackberry Smoke from my Top 10.
