This needs to pick up. Country radio's hesitance toward him is so stupid.

I agree radio should be all over this but it did get 57 adds on add day, which is still extremely good for an artist with 1 radio hit (that should've hit #1 but I digress, lol). I still see this one having a steady climb up the chart and I guess we'll see what the future holds once it hits the top 30 - top 20.
The Bullseye research is interesting though. I'm not a fan of the small sample size they use and therefore I which radio didn't put so much heavy importance on it but "Parachute" in the early testing (highest current "Have Not Heard Yet") is showing a 81% positive score from all males and a just a 45% positive from females, with the highest dislike on the surveyed songs for females (36%) -- males gave it a 13% dislike.
Its selling very well for its airplay and radio/listeners have still taken notice of Chris from the very important CMA Awards, and to a lesser extent the ACM's, so I still am optimistic this one can do good at radio. It won't go up nearly as fast as "Nobody To Blame" first did though.

Nice to see the bullet coming back after this previously looked DOA. It's now Top 40.

The Cumulus block added "Parachute" this week.

This is unquestionably the type of blow-your-doors off type of raucous country music that the format really needs; just turn it up the next time it comes on the radio and pray you don't get EVICTED!!!!
An absolutely sensational tune no doubt about it; hopefully country radio will wake up and jump all over this as if it were a single by a format megastar even as several of them including Tim, Keith & Luke prepare to release new singles this month.

Cumulus adding it is a bit of good news for this one. It's kinda painful looking at how this one is doing lately. If radio were smart, they'd be all over this guy because of his popularity, but that would just make too much sense...

What I find strangely ironic is I was at his show this past Saturday he did not play "Parachute". Found it very strange that an artist would not play their current single.

I wish and expect someone of Stapleton's accolades and sales to have his single climb more rapidly but "Parachute" is having a pretty steady, methodical climb up the chart (it's certainly not struggling, especially compared to other singles at radio right now) and I'm still expecting this one to reach the top 10 (God forbid, #1...lol).
The Highway recent added "The Devil Named Music" and while I love the song, can they PLEASE support the actual radio single. *sigh*

I honestly completely forgot about this song until the other day. For whatever reason, whenever I listen to my 100+ song playlist, this never was played until then, and now I'm back to loving it. I really hope this does better than "Nobody to Blame" did.

My mom and I like to joke in the car when this comes on that the hook is "I'll be your pair a shoes" because he doesn't enunciate the best. But aside from that, I like this song and think the title is totally fine. I'm not optimistic this will be bigger than NTB though, which is too bad because that one should've been a #1 hit, but if that one stalled out after an explosive start and narrowly broke the Top 10, then I'm not sure what to expect for this one with it meandering its way up the charts so slowly.

I was driving to Wisconsin on Saturday and I about drove into the ditch when "What Are You Listening To?" came on on one of the stations out of Madison. I'd been listening to the station for an hour or so and they were playing current music and recent big hits...definitely nothing obscure that didn't chart high. I was floored. It was so awesome. I've noticed that "What Are You Listening To?" is often solidly within the top 200 on the iTunes country chart. People are hungry for this guy's music. A single from a few years ago that didn't even go top 40 has been out-selling a lot of brand new singles -- if that's not a wake-up call for radio, then I don't know what will be. And of course "Parachute" is selling very well given its airplay level, and "Tennessee Whiskey", "Fire Away", and "Nobody To Blame" are all selling very well, too. Here are Stapleton's current positions on the iTunes all-genre chart: - Tennessee Whiskey - 106
- Parachute - 146
- Fire Away - 223
- Nobody To Blame - 267
- Traveller - 654
- What Are You Listening To? - 1161
And of course Traveller is back at #1 on this week's Billboard's Top Country Albums chart (dated July 16), having sold another 15,000 plus this past week.

It's really incredible how they are STILL eating up his music. It wasn't just a spike in sales after the CMA exposé.
As long as radio continues to knowingly ignore artists that the public WANTS to hear and continues to force-feed generic songs that don't pull passion (Chase Bryant, Frankie Ballard, Chris Lane) then they will continue to lose money, lose audience, and set up a potential collapse of country radio as the listening method of choice in vehicles.

So I'm listening to the local sports station here in Buffalo (WGR550 -- the station I interned at) and I hear a RAM Truck commercial come on. What song do I hear during the commercial as the theme? "Parachute."

I was in HMV (a music store chain) the other day buying Frankie Ballard's album and the woman cashing me out asked if I had ever heard of Chris Stapleton, I had to laugh because I had been the one to recommend him to her when the album came out. Made me happy to see him becoming a household name though.

It's absolutely ridiculous that radio isn't playing this more. If ANY other new artist had sold 1.5 million copies of their debut album, they'd probably have 4-5 #1's by now. But Stapleton has one hit that barely scraped the top 10 and now "Parachute" is floundering in the 30s. I keep when I see LoCash blasting into the top 20 and Granger Smith moving solidly up through the 20s...those guys are selling only a couple hundred copies of their albums each week (and their albums are far newer than Stapleton's is btw) and their track sales are much lower than Stapleton's are. The general public doesn't give a crap about LoCash or Granger "I lost my personality when I signed a record deal" Smith and yet both of them are gonna score back-to-back big radio hits. Meanwhile, Traveller is back at #1 on Top Country Albums, a full 9 months after Chris' hugely popular CMA performance last fall, and is still routinely selling upwards of 15,000 to 20,000 copies a week. Yeah, yeah, it's not about sales, it's all about listener feedback and advertising revenue, but my god radio looks SO stupid right now. I'd laugh if I wasn't so mad. Like, how can they justify not playing this guy!? He's sold more than Luke Bryan, Sam Hunt, Thomas Rhett, Jason Aldean, Carrie Underwood, Blake Shelton...everyone.

Like, how can they justify not playing this guy!? You want to talk mad? I had a conversation the other day with someone at WYRK (who will remain nameless) and when I asked about Stapleton and how is it that he's only had one modest hit, he said to me... "It's more than just sales man".... The discussion went further than that (it wasn't the main topic we discussed) but if I hear one more person in radio (granted, my career path might take me to their position one day) treat everyone like they're so much smarter than everyone else because they're too stubborn to look at what the consumer buys, I'm going to go nuts. They live and die by research and backroom relationships.

You can repay them in due time but eventually you will be over balance and have to file bankruptcy. Their current "spending habits" aren't working so it's about time they consult with some "experts" to rebalance their budget.

With this song appearing to be "done" do we get another single from the album? New music isn't coming until the spring so I would think they send another one to radio (then again does it matter since radio will not play it?). I really believe, regardless of sales and timing, they need to send "Tennessee Whiskey" to radio.

It has a shot to rebound, but I think this might be the end.
There's not really any harm in sending a third single to radio if new music is indeed not coming out till next spring. I feel like "Tennessee Whiskey" would actually have a shot at radio considering the uber amounts of love for it. Chris has uber amounts of love as well, and he's gone nowhere, so who knows lol.

The treatment of this one is really strange. What's maybe even more bizarre is that I actually hear this on the radio like all the time, so if I didn't know better, I'd think this one was doing just fine. I heard (and still do) "Nobody to Blame" plenty as well. NTB stalling out how it did was a bit of a shock, but the performance of this one definitely has eclipsed that one in the head-scratching department. There's just really no good excuse why this isn't performing a lot better at country radio, imo.
