I honestly don't get Hold Up; imo there's nothing memorable about that song. Sorry has the becky line and the sorry hook did get me after a few listens. Nothing on Lemonade is in my top 30 Bey songs though. I like the laid-back groove of "Hold Up," and I think it's chorus is catchier than the repetitive "Sorry" chorus (though I also recognize "HU" has a repetitive chorus). I don't even get the hype for the Becky line since it's just 1 line late in the song, and it isn't even an original one at that. How does that 1 line mean people should like the whole song?

Will she ever be embraced by pop radio again ? I feel like Drunk in Love was her last smash there. Sorry definitely deserves to crossover to Pop. It's a gem

I heard this on the radio a few times recently and I am happy it was released and is doing well. I still wish it was "Hold Up" though....
Is "Hold Up" considered dated or something? Whenever I play stuff from this cd "Hold Up" gets the best reaction followed by "Formation", "Sorry" and then "6 inch". Maybe it's just a few of my friends....

It's a gem Did '"Drunk In Love" make the top 10 at Top 40? I am not surprised "Sorry" wouldn't take off huge there. Even Rihanna's "Work" didn't go really well at Top 40. 'Urban' music isn't mainstream at the moment. Maybe it will cycle back in soon, though, as streaming becomes more and more influential.

Yeah, so it has been a long time since she's had a real smash at Top 40.

With Sorry's pop spins still in the green, the video she just released today on Vevo should give this a nice boost! I'd like this to smash please.

Definitely feel the visual aesthetic of the album is superior than the material itself IMO.

where is she airplay wise? Today Kworb has Sorry at #26 overall with over 56m in audience impressions. #35 at pop with about 1500 spins and nearly 8m ai.

I saw that the pop support is so minimal. Why pop radio doesn't like her I'm wondering. Also its strange how Formation was in the top 10 for one week only ( BB Hot 100) and the Sorry hasn't reached that bracket at all. Limited streaming platform right? Tidal and Vevo ( Youtube)

I saw that the pop support is so minimal. Why pop radio doesn't like her I'm wondering It's not so much her as it is this song. It's very, very urban. Sticks out like a sore thumb on pop playlists. Honestly I don't understand why they even bothered sending this to pop. Especially when "Formation" was never sent to pop even though it fit the format better than "Sorry." (Not exceptionally well, but it could have at least performed similarly to "Anaconda" on pop.) "Daddy Lessons" is for sure the pop hit of this album. "6 Inch" could possibly work as well. And maaaaaaaaaybe (very hard maybe) "Don't Hurt Yourself." The rest of the album is just so undeniably urban. That's not a bad thing because her more urban sounding albums get better critical acclaim and higher sales, they just lack strong pop support. But at this point, does Beyoncé even need pop?

I don't think she needs pop. No. I think they sent it to pop to reach an even wider audience. So even the little help pushes it to higher numbers

I don't think she needs Pop either - that seems abundantly clear. However I don't think this song being too urban is necessarily what is holding Pop back from playing it. I actually think it is Beyonce more than the song. And today's core pop audience not supporting her as they once did. I think as an artist she has drawn a line in the sand and declared herself an urban artist with urban output, officially as of her self-titled album. She doesn't cater to the younger Pop demo at all at this point, really, regardless of the genre of music she's making. She's not going to perform at Z100 Jingle Ball or whatever. She's moved on and seems at home in her element doing not-so-radio-friendly urban music and artistic visuals. She's very good at both.
I think Rihanna proves that Pop will play urban for the right artist. Rihanna may have had decidedly more urban-leaning music recently, but she's also catered to pop directly and is doing so right now. She has maintained her pop demo. That's the difference, imo. It's the artist, not necessarily the song. There are plenty of established artists doing pop music who don't get pop radio attention, which furthers my point. It's the artist's relationship with today's pop demo. Obviously Rihanna is younger and newer to the scene, so she has that going for her as well... but I just think for as mammoth as Beyonce is in the grand scheme of music, she's made a conscious decision to let her younger Pop demo go their way while she goes her's. Beyonce had her days as an A-list Pop radio star, both in and out of Destiny's Child, and she has a core urban fan base - young and old - that are one of a kind and very loyal.
Could she smash with a full-on surprise pop hit next month? Probably. Ryan Tedder is apparently ready and waiting for her. It's not going to be a sure thing forever. But it's hard to say what will happen with her as the years continue to tick by, but in the meantime it's clear that Pop is doing just fine without her, and she's doing just fine without Pop.

she hasn't done radio interview or visit since 2009. she paid them dust long time ago before them. combination of that + more urban(and sexual) sounds + no big promotions in media.
her demo is still very young tho. her tour is full of late 10's ~20's. also her huge presence in social media. they're not the issue.
afterall it's all about promotion, marketing which she won't do. (in traditional way for chart hit) so even If she record most pop, catchy tune, it won't do anything chart wise.

Usually urban crossover hits find its way to pop playlists after they rise high enough on Hot 100. ''Sorry'' is doing good on iTunes, and with a well-timed Spotify and music video release, it could've been an easy Billboard Top 10 hit months ago, making Top 40 bosses less hesitant to play it.''Drunk in Love'' was way more urban leaning than ''Sorry'' and it still managed to reach #12 on pop. It exploded there the week after it went Top 10 on Hot 100.
I very much doubt pop radios have an agenda against Beyonce. It's Beyonce who's distancing herself with all her anti-industry stunts.
