So right now we have....
Rihanna Britney Spears Nick Jonas
Usually there are only 8-9 performances, so there's a few slots left.

I would imagine twenty one pilots will be the "Rock" slot as they are insanely popular with MTV and Mainstream right now.
Any chance of Adele performing? Maybe green day as well.
The last few years were 8/9 acts performance
So should be 5 more for sure maybe 6.

Rihanna vanguard? :/ How about: Prince (??!!!) Missy Elliot Eminem Bjork (for real!) Elton John Pet shop boys None of those people mentioned would bring in the ratings MTV wants, but your mention of Prince just made me think, they ought to have a tribute planned. A slow announcement on performers is more forgivable if they're trying to get something in line for that.

A slow announcement on performers is more forgivable if they're trying to get something in line for that. The only ones I could see being successful in getting ratings from that list is Missy Elliott and Eminem. Missy is respected across a lot of demographics and she could draw in people and collaborators to have an incredible Vanguard performance. Even though it wasn't her video, she could have Katy come out to do a piece of "Last Friday Night" into her verse, get Christina and P!nk on-stage for a "Lady Marmalade" section, etc. because if they wanted to make it about the music too they could slide some of her guests and features to show that she has been on hits for a lot of people.

Is Ari confirmed to perform or not? I'm confused. MTV has not officially announced anything regarding Ariana. The "Side To Side" story came after Charlie Walk posted a Snap/Instagram video of Ariana dancing to the song at the Republic offices. From searching Twitter, the original caption supposedly referred to the dancing as "VMA rehearsals" (it doesn't say that anymore).

I actually think giving Prince the Vanguard Award made a lot of sense this year. Sad that he would be given this honor post-mortem, but hey. It would have done MTV a lot of good image-wise too.
I hope to see Gaga and Missy on the list of recipients soon. With Gaga in particular they've been waiting too long already imo.

Gaga hasn't even been relevant for 10 years at this point, so not sure how they've been waiting too long.

MTV should have swapped Zara Larsson out for Tinashe. Seriously, they just need to give T one performance slot and her career will take off.

Billboard pulled the page for some reason. Assuming there aren't any changes to that list though, I don't see how anything other than Drake or JT would reasonably win that. TIWYCF never reached #1 so I don't think it could contend for top spot; Cheap Thrills peaked too late; Don't Mind wasn't that big IMO; and Closer and Cold Water literally were not around until about a month ago. Anything else I neglected to mention isn't even a bona fide hit, but that's none of my business. This category could have been chopped off at five songs easily.

It's a commercial for Musical.ly. Each Musical.ly video posted featuring one of those songs (and a designated hashtag) counts a "vote." It sounded so beyond tacky, and I'm hoping the reason Billboard pulled the story is because it was fake.Edit: MTV just confirmed it, so it is legit. Guess Billboard just ran the story too early or something.

That means Kanye would be the only Video of the Year nominee performing. Seems unlikely? And I assumed Rihanna would perform for her Vanguard award but then again, Kanye didn't last year.
I am excited at the prospect of Frank Ocean performing but I hope it's better than his 2012/2013 VMA/Grammy performances. Aside from his Fallon performance of "Bad Religion" (which was stunning), his TV performances have been wonky.
If that list is true, I'm excited by Britney, Kanye and Frank. Otherwise, meh. What happened to Katy? Adele? Rihanna? Beyonce?

I don't know that I fully believe that's the final list, solely because Adele isn't on there, "Send My Love" is continuing to grow in success, and there's over a full 2 week period built into her tour between her last Staples Center show in LA (8/21) and her next show, which is in Detroit on 9/6. I'm thinking she'll be there to perform. I just don't see why she wouldn't be there if she's already in the states, her most recent show was in LA, and it was less than a week before the VMAs anyways. Wouldn't make sense to me, but then again, it's not like she really needs the promo, lol.

It would seem preposterous not to have Adele and Drake performing this year, but it's already preposterous that we're a few days away from the show and at least half the lineup (presumably including some big names) hasn't been announced yet. All the performers should have been revealed 3-4 weeks ago.
Rihanna's definitely performing. MTV announced it when it confirmed she was the Vanguard recipient.

Yeah, Rihanna is performing. She's considered a "Special" portion so there will be the 9 performances. Guess we will see what it is announced tomorrow or so?
