The 2016 MTV VMAs Will Be Held at Madison Square Garden in New York CityMTV announced today that its annual Video Music Awards will return to New York City this year, airing live on Sunday, August 28 from Madison Square Garden for the first time in the show’s 33-year history. The network even got a comment from New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, who said: “We are excited that MTV will bring the VMAs back to its original home of New York City. From the red carpet to the accolades to the performances — and everything in between — the VMAs are an incredible showcase for so many talented artists. It also goes without saying that hosting the awards in our city means a boost to our small businesses and restaurants and more jobs for the thousands of crew members who work to bring the show into homes around the world.” The award show first aired in New York in 1984 at Radio City Music Hall. Its last visit to New York was in 2013 at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center for the show’s 30th anniversary. www.spin.com/2016/04/mtv-vmas-madison-square-garden/

Which were bigger this year? And I agree, "Formation" deserves it.

I wouldn't put it pass MTV to do something like this:
VIDEO OF THE YEAR: Wildest Dreams - Taylor Swift Famous - Kanye West This is What You Came For - Calvin Harris & Rihanna. (And any combination of Formation, Hello and Hotline Bling which were probably the 3 biggest videos of the year).
Biggest ratings in a decade.

The Video Of The Year noms are tragic. Famous & Sorry, really?
Like the noms for Best Electronic Video along with the technical categories.

All predicable noms with the exception of "Let Me Love You". And wow "Work" couldn't get Video of The Year?

They are really trying to make this seem like a precursor to the Grammy Awards with the blatant pining for Adele or Beyoncé to attend and perform by having them be the most nominated. Deserving nominations, but it's very obvious.

Wow Zayn was paid dust. He couldn't get a Best New Artist and Best Male Video nom? Shit.
That trash video Kanye released is only being nominated because MTV is a messy bitch that lives for drama. There was nothing in the video but some lame attempt at shock and awe.
Yes Formation!

Noms aren't that great - hoping Adele will sweep with the awards "Hello" is up for - truly an iconic, record shattering moment and great video.
It shouldn't be too long until performers are announced!

Cheap Thrills had a video?
Yes for Formation, especially that Pop nomination!
These are...underwhelming as a whole, but expected.

Famous is only considered good because of how controversial it is and Sorry... I didn't even think that was a proper video? Very happy to see all the nominations for Into You, I hope it can win a few, or better yet all, and she performs on the show, this time hitting the high notes in the last chorus like she did at a concert in Paris Also really happy to see the nomination for Wild Things.

I liked the "Sorry" video. It was honestly better than most boring pop videos these days.

Weird that Beyonce is up for Video of the Year with Formation and for female video with Hold Up. Should be Formation for both

"Sorry" is problematic and drama incested but I like it. Why? The VOTY nominees are very obvious but deserving, IMO. It would definitely be nice for MTV to think a bit outside the box but these 5 videos are probably the most notable/memorable/talked-about/etc. videos of the year. Give Beyonce the top award, Adele Female Video, Drake Male Video and Rihanna (with Calvin or Drake) Best Collaboration. This year is pretty top-heavy in terms of nominees/stars. If they have Adele, Beyonce, Justin Bieber, Drake, Kanye West and Rihanna all perform....that'd be impressive. Add in potential performances from Katy, Gaga and Britney. This could be a big one.

Video of the Year"Hello" by Adele "Formation" by Beyonce "Sorry" by Justin Bieber "Hotline Bling" by Drake "Work" by Rihanna & Drake Pretty close and "Famous" wasn't out when I made that prediction. TBH, I assume "Work" was 6th on the list.

"Sorry" is problematic and drama incested but I like it. Why? Appropriation. But that aside, it is a very good video (IMO) which is interesting considering it didn't get 'real' video treatment and Justin himself isn't even in it. It was handled more like a promo teaser. Most of these nominations bore me but I can't think of anything that I feel got wrongly snubbed, except maybe Nick Jonas/Close, or Zayn/Pillowtalk (although this did get a Visual Effects nom). These aren't major snubs that many people would raise a fuss about. Just not an exciting year for videos I guess.

Wait... I just noticed Taylor got ZERO nominations Wonderful, I'm pretty sure that's cause OOTW was her only single this year with a real music video and well it flopped hard even with a Grammy's performance. Hopefully she is on hiatus til 2018, we don't need more Taylor since 1989 is still big af right now.

Taylor reportedly didn't send any songs in for nomination this year because she will not be attending.

This wasn't Taylor's year anyway, would be horrible if she was nominated and actually won something

I don't get how a video can be nominated for both female (or male) and collaboration. Should only be collaboration!

Well Missy got thrown a bone with Best Choreography. There was a time when MTV recognized her (and Dave Meyers') visual genius.
