I'm ashamed to say I had never seen the music video for "Sugar" before seeing this thread...what a fun video, lol. I loved the treatment they went with for that one. Fits the song's upbeat nature, perfectly.
I also really enjoyed "Way Back Home". That might be my favorite Jenn solo song I've heard so far.

The only thing I care about this week is "Hey Heartbreak" on Friday (that is if I have enough internet data to download it). Saw a live video and I am in LOVE.

I can't wait for this. I've heard about half of it live, and it's fantastic. Does anyone know if the Jennifer Lopez duet will be on a physical copy of the album somewhere?

One thing I haven't liked about how they've handled it, they never officially released a tracklisting. With That Girl they put out an official press release with the tracklisting and co-writers. This time around they didn't, I basically dug out the songwriters with help from Windmills music. But yeah, the tracklisting has only been posted on HSN (which doesn't have the JLO track), itunes/google play (which have the jlo track). I'll dig a little and see if I can find out if it's on all albums or not. ETA: According to Jennifer's site, it's on the vinyl so I'll take that as it's on all the albums. It was a very last minute addition recorded very end of March and added after an early copy was sent out to certain dj's at the mid-late march before she wrote and went in with JLo. So it's very much possible what HSN had for a tracklisting was given to them prior to the JLO track being recorded.

I'm not going to lie, besides "Sugar" (which I found to be just annoying) this album so far is pretty good not great but great for mainstream standards.

I've got the 3 songs currently available on iTunes, and WOW! This is what I had hoped for from the "That Girl" era. I am thoroughly impressed! :)

I am loving each song that has been sent out to itunes so far. I think to say I'm excited for the release of the album is an understatement. While I enjoyed That Girl, it kind of burned out on me after a few months of listening. I can't even tell you the last time I listened the album outside of a random track here or there when it pops up on my ipod. If I had to rank so far my favorites though I'd rank them as so and let me say, it wasn't easy because with each listen, I find a new favorite with the songs - lines, phrasings, etc.
1. Playing with Fire 2. Unlove You 3. Hey Heartbreak 4. Way Back Home. 5. Sugar

I can't say enough good about this album. I had really high expectations going in (from hearing a bunch of the songs live already, and just in general really liking her/Sugarland's past work), but she has exceeded them. There is not a weak track on here. The songs range from fun ("Sugar" - which works so much better in the context of the album, "Drunk In Heels" - still has a message though) to introspective ("Stupid Girl", "Way Back Home"), and a lot in between. Surprisingly, I think "My House" is one of the very best moments on the album. I really didn't know what to expect going in to it, but the lyrics really resonate, and both ladies sound really good on it (I especially like the "Jenny from the dirt road, Jenny from the block" part).
I also loved That Girl, but I guess I can (begrudgingly) see why the singles from it were met with some resistance from radio. This time, country radio has no excuse. There is no reason why they shouldn't be playing a number of these songs. "Playing With Fire", "Hey Heartbreak", "Drunk In Heels" and "Chaser" in particular all sound radio ready. If there is any justice, this album should be massive.

- Hey Heartbreak
- Chaser
- Playing With Fire
- My House (featuring Jennifer Lopez)
- Salvation Works
- Way Back Home
- Unlove You
- Three Days In Bed
- Stupid Girl
- Starting Over (Edit: Somehow, I missed this on my first post). someguy you aren't alone. Haha.
- Sugar (Listening to the album as a whole, this song fits...but more as an album track). I'm glad Big Machine promoted this at the extent they could.
Not a bad song on this album, but SO SO hard to rank.

Sugar (Listening to the album as a whole, this song fits...but more as an album track). I'm glad Big Machine promoted this at the extent they could. Big Machine never released "Sugar". It was released when Jennifer was still on UMG. She had been on Mercury, but it was announced that EMI would promote "Sugar" to radio...and then suddenly it was pulled pretty much right after it was sent to radio, this of course because Jennifer parted ways with UMG and signed with Big Machine shortly thereafter. :)

I love every song on here on first listen, such a strong strong album, I'll be hoping that one of the singles catches on because they deserve to be heard.
Based on my first listen through this is my ranking of the tracks.
01. "Chaser" 02. "Way Back Home" 03. "Hey Heartbreak" 04. "Drunk In Heels" 05. "Unlove You" 06. "Salvation Works" 07. "Sugar" 08. "My House" 09. "Stupid Girl" 10. "Three Days In Bed" (Holly's version is so close to my heart that It's odd hearing Jennifer singing it. But it still works and I do love it, but it'd probably be ranked higher if I had never heard Holly's version.) 11. "Starting Over" 12. "Playing With Fire"

I cannot say enough good things about this record. For me, this was easily the most-anticipated album of the past few months. I was fortunate enough to see her and hear several of these songs live late last year, and I have been replaying those memories in my head ever since. "Chaser" and "Way Back Home" were the songs that stood out the most to me from that concert, and I am so glad they translated well from the stage to the studio. There isn't a single track I would remove from the album and there isn't a single track I ever skip while playing the record - and that's all I've been doing since Friday evening. I don't know how I'm going to rank these songs, but I'll do my best. I'm looking forward to new music from Brandy Clark and Maren Morris, but this is going to be very hard to beat.
01. "Chaser" 02. "Way Back Home" 03. "Hey Heartbreak" 04. "Starting Over" 05. "Salvation Works" 06. "Drunk In Heels" 07. "Stupid Girl" 08. "Unlove You" 09. "My House" 10. "Playing With Fire" 11. "Sugar" 12. "Three Days In Bed"

This is a really good album. Great mix of fun up-tempos and ballads. I always tend to cut Jenn's songs more slack because of her past history with Sugarland and Twice The Speed Of Life and Enjoy The Ride are two of my all-time favorite albums.
I think Borchetta see's an opportunity for her to be a constant at radio. I don't think she'll ever see top 10 hits on a regular basis but a consistent top 30 to top 40 single placements I could see happening, with moderate to decent sales -- of course, I'm sure many (including me) would love for her and Kristian to end their solo stuff and reunite Sugarland but considering Jenn's first Big Machine album just came out and Kristian has signed with Broken Bow Records Music Group, that seems quite a ways off now.
Taken the fact that it's hard for female voices to test well these days, her intense southern drawl may hold her back with limited success at radio but I am glad she's gotten this album out with what is now a top 30 single ("Unlove You").
Anyway, to the songs. I of course love "Unlove You" but I also love "Way Back Home" -- I hope that one can see radio but I know they'll likely go for an up-tempo release next.
I think "Hey Heartbreak" is one of the catchiest songs I've heard on any album over the past 2-3 years and I think that might be the leading candidate for the next single. I can also see them releasing "Stupid Girl" next -- that song has enough tempo in it and is anthemic enough to see success at radio.
"Playing With Fire" is certainly different and I do like it but it's probably towards the bottom of the tracks on this record. I do think Jennifer sings the crud out of it.
I'm also enjoying the subtle dobro in "Three Days In Bed". That one has taken a few listens but has grown on me.
I like the comedy aspect of "Drunk In Heels" and is also a track tempo'ish enough for a single but I'd be disappointed if it was selected over "Hey Heartbreak" or "Stupid Girl."
"Chaser" is really good, too. Love the way that one sounds at night time; sultry sound that comes through the speakers, strong and eerie.
"Starting Over" is a song I was expecting from her, given her love and intense ability to sign those power ballads.
Not a huge fan of "My House" but it's decent enough for a toe tap. "Sugar" is also a fun song but has never been a huge favorite (the video is really fun though, lol).
But wow..."Salvation Works" is great -- like really great. I love the lyrics, melody and vocals. I doubt it see's radio but that one is beautifully written and performed.
Rankings: :)
1. "Salvation Works" 2. "Way Back Home" 3. "Hey Heartbreak" 4. "Unlove You" 5. "Stupid Girl" 6. "Three Days In Bed" 7. "Chaser" 8. "Starting Over" 9. "Drunk In Heels" 10. "Sugar" 11. "Playing With Fire" 12. "My House"

Why is this thread hidden?? I LOVE Jennifer. Liked her last album a lot and loved the last two Sugarland albums. Anyway, she is one of my favorite vocalists out there right now. This album is a masterpiece. The only songs I don't LOVE are the title track and Drunk In Heels but they are still good in the context of the album. Hey Heartbreak, Three Days In Bed, Way Back Home, Stupid Girl, Unlove You, and Starting Over are masterpieces, classics, etc. The guitar line running through Salvation Works is hypnotic. The J. Lo song is a BOP! Very impressive body of work.

I'll post more thoughts on the album later, but I agree 100% that "Hey Heartbreak" needs to be a single. My favorite by far.

Great album! Stupid Girl was the only song I was skipping over, but it is now growing on me. Sugar is wearing on me already, it'll be the song I skip now. Lol
Chaser is the standout from this album, INCREDIBLE!
Hey Heartbreak needs to be on the radio, sure fire hit!

I bought this the day it came out, and when I have time at home, it's all I listen to. There are 2 tracks that I do tend to skip over....those being Three Days in Bed (which I think is TERRIBLE) and Drunk in Heels (which is not as bad as Three Days in Bed, but also not good, either. Unlove You and Stupid Girl are the 2 that I can't stop listening to. And while I really enjoy Hey Heartbreak, there is WAY too much repetition! Not sure I can rank them, but here it goes:
1 "Unlove You" 2. "Stupid Girl" 3. "Hey Heartbreak" 4. "Starting Over" 5. "Way Back Home" 6. "Salvation Works" 7. "Chaser" 8. "Sugar" 9. "Playing With Fire" 10. "Drunk In Heels" 11. "Three Days In Bed"
I also didn't list My House because I've only heard it once and I haven't downloaded it yet and listened to it again.

#2 country, #10 top 200 album with 31,000 sold. Congratulations, Jennifer Nettles! I'm confused by both totals, did she sell 31,000 or 33,000?
Unrelated: I found this on youtube. It's Sara Daze singing Hey Heartbreak. Before she sings it she talks about finding out Jennifer was going to sing it on the Today show but not knowing when it'd be on. Cute story really.
If you haven't listened on SXM The Highway, they aired an album release special all weekend. I believe it's in their On Demand section and is supposed to re-air this coming weekend again. They played nearly every song from the album in some way - only songs not played were Stupid Girl and Starting Over. Drunk in Heels, Unlove You, Chaser and Hey Heartbreak were done acoustically with just Jennifer and her lead guitarist, Scott Patton while the rest of the songs were album tracks. It was interesting to hear her point of view on the songs and why she chose the two outside tracks that she did. She also did in two Sugarland songs acoustically - Want To and Baby Girl.

Finally got to listen to this over the weekend. I love it. Such great songs. I think my favorite is Starting Over. I just think it's beautiful and Jennifer sounds awesome on this one. I also really like Drunk in Heels and Chaser. Salvation Works is a surprise favorite for me. Playing with Fire is the only one that doesn't do a whole lot for me. I haven't downloaded the Beyonce song yet.
