I went to the zoo the other day, and it made me think Alessia Cara belongs in a zoo. She just makes this face in the Wild Things video that makes me think she should be in one.

Wow I can't believe you don't like Drag Me Down :( its like one of the best One Direcion songs imo When I review songs, I try to incorporate different aspects like lyrical content, melody, vocal performance, instrument layers and all, Drag Me Down may be good in one or two of these aspects, but all in all it comes down to a "meh"

31. Cool for the Summer -- Demi Lovato One of the most memorable songs of 2015 summer, not just that it's about lesbian experimentation, but it strikes, hard, like, it starts with a recurring fresh piano riff immediately backed up by some synth line that plunges the mood to adventurous darkness, and then it got the electronic beat that sounds like crushing down at every turn embellished by the heavy synth chord and guitar licks that make the song seem polished. Then, near the chorus, she yells "We're cool for the summer!" and then goes all out letting the electric guitar roar and buzz to the crescendo where she gives off some anthemic belching and puts everything out there to be taken down. It's strong, it's huge, it's a movement, it sounds like a car commercial, and it is a commercial of selling the coolness of some proud experimentation that's both in the light and held in secrecy at the same time. It's empowering, if it's not for its too popish sounding and the average melody, it could've made it to the "Good" tier. TIER: 50-59 - DECENT

30. Cheerleader -- OMI Speaking of 2015 summer, who can forget the "Oh I think that I found myself a cheerleader"? The remix is a fresh fire that sprinkles all over island and beach. It's a trumpet-infused deep house freshness that has exotic conga beat flaccidly hits through the song. The piano riff right before the hook is lifting and really has the wizard and magical world kind of vibe. The chorus may be the monotonous part of the song, but the transition with the second verse is almost genius, through the easily catchiest two lines "She walks like a model / She grants my wishes like a genie in a bottle", then the piano starts to play more ultra-gripping chords and then trumpets begin to bring more tropical flavor into the play and gives an ascending solo. The vocal here may be the weakness of this song, given it's more than obviously (heavily) auto-tuned, but even the mechanical part of the song can't wipe the magic away, for it's truly some well-produced summer jam fit to be in a fairy-tale that has a cheerleader and a genuinely happy and approved relationship. 29. Renegades -- X Ambassadors This (commercial) song is thrilling. So few words on the lyrics but so on-point and let the sparks of dark night adventure fly. Running wild and free! Hail the pioneers! Break the rules! Live without fear! This song strikes into the realm of drama, it's cool, it's punchy, and no amount of relatively generic guitar lick and intense clapping and excellent dark and crooning violin in the bridge can deny the fact that, for this car commercial song, the drive is real. Get it? TIER: 50-59 - DECENT

28. Wildest Dreams -- Taylor Swift From 2014 to 2015 Taylor Swift effectively turned 5 genuinely good songs to 5 commercial successes and I'm impressed by how well the good side of her music turned out. This may as well be a really good choice for the fifth single of 1989 for musically it's the fifth excellent one in my opinion, but it's definitely not saying that it's bad (look at it, top 30! Easily above average!). The raspy and gritty synth that opens up the wide open space of the song is memorable, Taylor's verses are incredible and resonates considerably harder than the comparatively disposable chorus (which is a disappointment), and the country-flavored twang and hope-filled nostalgic persona in her voice effectively bump this song up the tier of emotion. My absolute favorite lines here are: "I said no one has to know what we do / His hands are in my hair, his clothes are in my room / And his voice is a familiar sound, nothing lasts forever". They're filled with melancholy reflection of nothing lasts and expectation of some romance that's yet to come simultaneously, all feels incredibly real and honest and fresh from the sentimental spot of her heart. It's far from just describing what she's wearing and what she's doing, it's also what she's feeling, when the reclusive, longing and nostalgic side of her comes, she comes on strong. NOW LET'S MOVE ONTO A NEW TIER: "TIER: 60-79 - GOOD". IT'S WHERE THE REAL SOLID, WELL-PRODUCED, WELL-WRITTEN AND WELL-PERFORMED SONG FILLED WITH A CERTAIN PERSONALITY GO. SONGS IN THIS TIER HAVE SOME SPARKLY QUALITIES AND COULD SHOW POTENTIAL AND DRIVE TOWARD EXCELLENCE BUT YET HAVE SOMETHING, EVEN SOMETHING MINOR, SHORT THAT KEEPS THEM FROM ENTERING THE ULTIMATE "WONDERFUL" TIER.

27. Stay with Me -- Sam Smith This song didn't impress me all that much when I first listened to it, but then it started to grow on me, not melodically though, which is still a little bland without an earworm hook that really catches my ears, but it can be considered as a "good" song and reach beyond the level of his two follow-up singles which I have already ranked. It's pretty simple-structured old-fashioned slow and crooning love song without much electronic texture, with moderately-struck drum beat that has a considerable amount of reverb, dotted with piano notes that are "inoffensive" but still above the level of mediocrity of this type of songs. His vocal, backed with gospel choir in the chorus, is a plus here with "cursive" beauty if you know what I mean and being able to perfectly capture his conflicting emotion of not sure whether it's love and not good at one-night stands but just want someone to stay the night to keep warm. It's mawkish, it's insistent, it got everything that a good love song needs. The bridge of gospel music kind of creeps me out for it's a little bit awkward stuck there though, but other than that, his tone is sincere. TIER: 60-79 - GOOD

26. Hello -- Adele When this song first came out, it's an absolute bombshell that made first-week sales history. Is it a good enough song to make that history? Kind of. I mean, it's not that wonderful, but rather simple and a full-on piano ballad powered by Adele's incredible voice. Some lines are bland and formulaic in songwriting "I'm in California dreaming about..." "To tell you I'm sorry for everything I've done", and some other lines are deeper, like the classic "Hello from the outside". But her delivery is so soulful and with such power that gives every single line, formulaic or not, a bump toward the tier of "legend". The chorus is so simple but her voice just works so well with piano playing in the background, without the need to much it any more complicated. The vocal harmony at last really builds up to a stormy crescendo that wraps the song up in the strongest way possible. TIER: 60-79 - GOOD 25. Want to Want Me -- Jason Derulo It's almost a getting-high anthem, the most aroused moment of 2015 in the back of the cab. It's a pretty decent Jason Derulo song and a pretty decent song in general with pretty interesting percussive chords and other pretty solid synthesizer texture, enlivened by his energy, vigor and passion to get laid. TIER: 60-79 - GOOD 24. Ghost -- Ella Henderson I was hesitating whether to put it on the "Good" tier, then I heard the full chorus, and it's on (pun)! The full chorus is easily the best part of the song, and almost borders upon "excellent", for it's so orotund with her ringing voice that sounds tough and timidly restrained at the same time, and oh my God THAT ELECTRIC GUITAR! I can say that I put this song in such high ranking is just for the sake of that explosively buzzing electric guitar which sounds extremely cool, extremely catchy and extremely energetic. It's a savior to the whole song, almost single-handedly grabbed my complete and full attention, rescuing this song from just a generic pop song. But to be fair, other than the full chorus, the verses are punchy and shimmering with guitar licks and fast-tempo kick drum. It's all exciting to listen to, and can really drive the relatively insipid lyrics to mind. TIER: 60-79 - GOOD

23. Bad Blood -- Taylor Swift featuring Kendrick Lamar Yes, I put this song on "Good" tier and above Ghost, but in my defense the remix version is a gem and met with critical acclaim after its release. You know, screw the Fight Song, this interesting Taylor-Kendrick collaboration should be the real "Fight Song of 2015". This song is just about putting up an epic-scaled futuristic fight for the "bad blood" the protagonist is having with the antagonist. There's just something about this song that I really want to defend, Kendrick's verses are enough to steal the show and leave a strong impression and mark, having an impressive and war-tinged flow and rhythm. The hook is incredibly simple and not that melodiously gratifying or inventive like her other singles, yet it's punchy and on-point and filled with firework driven by her slightly screechy and defiant voice and tone and the low-burn synth line that heats everything up. In short, its music video is badass and almost legendary, and the song is perfect for making a visual stunner work. This collaboration is so triumphant and dynamic and gender-balanced that, you heard me, it's a good song, seriously. TIER: 60-79 - GOOD
