This is really cool to see all at once - thanks for putting it together!

Updated with "Closer." It's the strongest #1 since "One Dance"'s first week at the top (which was also the last time the #1 song was #1 in more than one metric).
And, in the likely event that "Cheap Thrills" does not at some point hit #1 on streaming or digital sales, it becomes the first song since John Legend's "All of Me" to hit #1 by topping only the airplay chart.

Updated through week 5 of the Chainsmokers' run.
"Closer" is now the strongest #1 since "Hello," and stands a decent shot at also being the first song since "Hello" to top all 3 components simultaneously.
"Cheap Thrills" also seems a bit less of a fluke now that it's logged an impressive 7 weeks at #1 on Radio Songs.
This is also the first time we've had the same songs atop the 3 component charts for 5 weeks in a row since "Uptown Funk" had a 7-week run atop all 3.

Updated through "Black Beatles."
Note this is the first time ever that a song has been dethroned at #1 when it was 1-1-1 across the component charts the previous week.

So now that this has been updated, allow me to ask: which had a bigger point total average throughout its time at #1? Uptown Funk or Closer? When the former was a thing, sales were stronger and streaming wasn't as big a deal, and seeing as it also had a higher radio peak audience I would think it came out on top.
Hope this isn't an obvious and/or silly question… But thanks!

My calculations don't use actual point totals, just chart positions, so I can't answer the point question. But based on the metrics here, Uptown Funk would be the clear winner over last 4 years and Closer would be the clear #2. After that it's likely Hello but you could make arguments for a couple other songs at #3.

I hope badrobot doesn't mind, but I was interested in seeing these stats back to the beginning of the SoundScan era. So I have compiled just that in a Google document here. I've used the same formula as badrobot, but diving by two instead of three for the vast majority of this spreadsheet. Notes: The sales and airplay side of the Hot 100 seems pretty balanced in the early 90's The Hot 100 #1's become very sales-heavy in the late 90's. Many of which weren't even top 10 on the airplay chart. The Hot 100 #1's become basically a carbon copy of the airplay chart from late 2001 until the inclusion of digital sales in 2005 (as expected). That time period has a lot of strengths in the 0.5-0.6 range. Most of the weak #1's come from 1998-2001, when sales were dying but still strong enough to influence the top end of the chart The song with the most 1-1's? End Of The Road with 12 I gave up looking up physical sales positions somewhere in 2006 lol I included the 1991 data for fun. It shows just how off the old methodology was. Promise Of A New Day got an amazing strength of 0.1200. Weakest #1's from 11/30/1991 through 12/29/2012: 06-10-2000 0.1339 Maria Maria Santana featuring The Product G&B 8 7 01-24-1998 0.1429 Truly Madly Deeply Savage Garden 7 7 01-17-1998 0.1625 Truly Madly Deeply Savage Garden 5 8 03-04-2000 0.1714 Amazed Lonestar 5 7 11-27-2010 0.1714 Like a G6 Far East Movement featuring The Cataracs and Dev 7 5 04-07-2001 0.1833 Butterfly Crazy Town 5 6 11-07-1998 0.1905 The First Night Monica 3 21 11-14-1998 0.1961 Doo Wop (That Thing) Lauryn Hill 3 17 07-15-2000 0.2000 Everything You Want Vertical Horizon 5 5 08-29-1998 0.2024 The Boy Is Mine Brandy and Monica 14 3

I can't find the appropriate sales chart, but how radically different it had to have been from airplay for the #7/#8 song to be the best overall!

The week after this, Aaliyah's Try Again was the first and only "airplay-only" #1. That was probably one of the weakest eras for #1's.

I can't find the appropriate sales chart, but how radically different it had to have been from airplay for the #7/#8 song to be the best overall! Airplay chart: 1. Thong Song - I believe this had a limited physical release. It was #71 on the sales chart that week. 2. Try Again - no physical release 3. Be With You - #41 on sales, it shot to #1 a couple weeks later. Must've been a different format. 4. The Real Slim Shady - #47 on sales 5. Breathe - #13 on sales, already peaked 6. Everything You Want - not physically released yet (went to #1 the week it was released) 7. Maria Maria Sales Chart: 1. You Sang To Me - #16 on airplay, wasn't much of an airplay hit 2. Country Grammar - not top 75 on airplay 3. He Wasn't Man Enough - #19 on airplay, I remember pop took FOREVER to catch on this 4. Swear It Again - not top 75 on airplay 5. Back Here - #64 on airplay, just starting to take off 6. Mirror Mirror - not top 75 on airplay 7. Feelin' So Good - not top 75 on airplay 8. Maria Maria This is what ended up happening in the 1998-2001 stretch. Sales were still high enough to have a big impact on the chart. But a lot of the big sales hits were becoming songs that weren't big airplay hits. And many of the big airplay hits weren't being released, or were being held back to guarantee a high peak. This resulted in a very wonky Hot 100 during that era. I actually find it one of the most fascinating eras in Hot 100 history. Edit: Silvio Pietroluongo's Hot 100 article from that week has more info

Thanks for digging that up, ry4n! Was this before Clear Channel had a strong stranglehold, homogenizing radio stations? Or did radio just simply not care about what the public was interested in seeking out, even moreso than today? (Or something else?)

Clear Channel (or iHeartMedia as they are known today), currently owns a pop station in every top 10 radio market except Houston. Back then, they only owned KIIS in Los Angeles. WHTZ in New York, KHKS in Dallas, WIOQ in Philadelphia, and WXKS in Boston were not owned by Clear Channel in 2000 although they would later be bought by Clear Channel.

This year's Hot 100 is looking more and more like the 2000 chart when the two biggest metrics had very different songs in the top 5/10 and the #1s were super weak. Streaming Era (Jan. 19, 2013 - February 23, 2019) Hot 100 #1s that were not the week's #1 in streaming, airplay or sales: Chart Date | Song | Week at #1 | Sales Rank | Airplay Rank | Streaming Rank | Apr. 6, 2013 | Thrift Shop | 5th (of 6 weeks) | 2 | 2 | 2 | Apr. 13, 2013 | Thrift Shop | 6th (of 6 weeks) | 2 | 3 | 2 | May 11, 2013 | Just Give Me A Reason | 3rd (of 3 weeks) | 2 | 3 | 5 | Jun. 15, 2013 | Can't Hold Us | 5th (of 5 weeks) | 5 | 2 | 3 | Jan. 25, 2014 | Timber | 2nd (of 3 weeks) | 2 | 3 | 3 | Feb. 1, 2014 | Timber | 3rd (of 3 weeks) | 3 | 3 | 2 | Aug. 9, 2014 | Rude | 3rd (of 6 weeks) | 2 | 2 | 2 | Aug. 23, 2014 | Rude | 5th (of 6 weeks) | 5 | 2 | 2 | Aug. 30, 2014 | Rude | 6th (of 6 weeks) | 7 | 2 | 4 | Jul. 18, 2015 | See You Again | 12th (of 12 weeks) | 10 | 2 | 3 | Aug. 15, 2015 | Cheerleader | 4th (of 6 weeks) | 2 | 3 | 3 | Aug. 29, 2015 | Cheerleader | 5th (of 6 weeks) | 2 | 2 | 2 | Sep. 5, 2015 | Cheerleader | 6th (of 6 weeks) | 2 | 2 | 2 | Feb. 13, 2016 | Love Yourself | 1st (of 2 weeks) | 3 | 3 | 2 | Apr. 30, 2016 | Work | 9th (of 9 weeks) | 13 | 6 | 2 | Jun. 4, 2016 | One Dance | 2nd (of 10 weeks) | 2 | 2 | 2 | Jun. 18, 2016 | One Dance | 4th (of 10 weeks) | 2 | 2 | 2 | Jun. 25, 2016 | One Dance | 5th (of 10 weeks) | 3 | 2 | 2 | Jul. 2, 2016 | One Dance | 6th (of 10 weeks) | 2 | 2 | 2 | Jul. 16, 2016 | One Dance | 8th (of 10 weeks) | 4 | 2 | 2 | Jul. 23, 2016 | One Dance | 9th (of 10 weeks) | 6 | 2 | 2 | Aug. 6, 2016 | Cheap Thrills | 1st (of 4 weeks) | 2 | 3 | 6 | Aug. 13, 2016 | Cheap Thrills | 2nd (of 4 weeks) | 2 | 2 | 7 | Feb. 18, 2017 | Shape Of You | 2nd (of 12 weeks) | 2 | 3 | 2 | May 13, 2017 | That's What I Like | 1st (and only week) | 2 | 2 | 5 | Sep. 30, 2017 | Look What You Made Me Do | 3rd (of 3 weeks) | 2 | 10 | 2 | Oct. 7, 2017 | Bodak Yellow | 1st (of 3 weeks) | 3 | 13 | 2 | Oct. 21, 2017 | Bodak Yellow | 3rd (of 3 weeks) | 4 | 10 | 2 | Jun. 2, 2018 | Nice For What | 5th (of 8 weeks) | 10 | 7 | 3 | Jun. 9, 2018 | Nice For What | 6th (of 8 weeks)

*Nice For What's 8 week at #1: #43 on the Digital Song Sales chart despite being the 11th most downloaded song of the week (due to the CMA rule). Its 20k downloads weren't fully counted for the HDS chart, but for the Hot 100 they were. This thread is so damn great, btw.

Complete My Album sales are deducted from the weekly sales figure (used for the Digital Song Sales chart) and thus from the song's cumulative sales total. The Hot 100, however, uses the raw number of sales generated during the tracking week. support.apple.com/el-gr/HT201162
