#197: Major Lazer featuring Justin Bieber and MO – Cold Water
Era: 6 Peak: 23 Weeks in Top 100: 15 (Still on) Weeks in Top 10: N/A Points: 201548
Aye! Another current charting song! And the first Major Lazer, Justin Bieber, and MO song on this countdown! Promise, all three artists will have more songs! There is one memory that I can relate back to this song, but I feel like there’s another song on this countdown that fits better, so I’m saving that for the other song! I guess I’ll just talk about my opinions about this song here. When this first debuted at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100, I was like, oh god. Another song that debuts high… I was waiting for all this craziness of 2016 where almost all top songs debut at the top to die down… and here we go again… Great, the chart’s gonna be ruined for 2017. This song's gonna rule at #1 for like 10 weeks and block Heathens from the #1 spot... (I legit thought Heathens would reach #1 before the Suicide Squad hype! You can check the predict the peaks thread for August!) So I refused to listen to this song for the next week. But when I actually heard it, I found it was quite awesome! Though Justin Bieber and MO’s voices are a bit annoying, I love how this song feels very fun but still remain very emotional. So this song had a rough start on my chart, but soon blasted into the top 50 and peaked at #23, where it stalled out before just starting to drop very recently. As this drops, it will definitely gain more points and will be back in my coming 2016 YE chart! Definitely a song that lives up to Major Lazer’s standards and proves that Justin Bieber is only getting better. Can Cold Water’s “sister” song Let Me Love You make it on with only 11 weeks but a slightly higher peak at 22? You’ll have to wait to find out!
"And although time may take us into different places I will still be patient with you And I hope you know I won't let go"

#196: Carrie Underwood – Heartbeat
Era: Late 3/Early 4 Peak: 26 Weeks in Top 100: 21 Weeks in Top 10: N/A Points: 204760
So I’ve always thought country grew on me when a local radio station started playing Kelsea Ballerini’s Peter Pan a whole lot, allowing Kelsea’s previous single Dibs to resurge on my chart, bringing Peter Pan along with it to a 9 week run at #1. But apparently I charted more country songs that gained enough points to make this countdown prior to the Kelsea craze! This and the Keith Urban song… definitely more to come!
I don’t have any specific memory to go along with “Heartbeat”, though I do remember there was this one channel on YouTube that does personal charts (I forgot the name), and I was watching one of their videos. Despite their chart being mostly pop oriented like mine, Heartbeat was able to hit #1 for 2-3 weeks! I don’t think that channel does videos anymore, sadly. When the song was first released, I just thought it was a pretty standard country song, but after listening to it a few times over Winter Break 2015 (so I guess this song kinda reminds me of last Winter Break and how I literally had to spend 7-8 hours a day studying physics because my parents realized I was bs’ing the enrichment class I talked about back in the description for “Magnets”), I felt that Carrie’s voice was very unique and she made the song very emotional unlike other country songs (which I used to think of as unsentimental, which through the recent country surge, I got rid of that idea lol). And after watching the video, I totally loved it, so this song surged into the top 50 and onto a #26 peak on the first week of 2016 (Out Of The Woods’s week at #1). As part of a trend towards a more static chart because less songs charting (reflecting my growing negativity/depression towards life in the beginning of 2016), “Heartbeat” had a slower drop than most era 3 songs, and since it peaked on the very first week of 2016, I consider this an early era 4 song instead of era 3 although it grew on me in December. Another one of my favorite country songs, and I believe this song rose the charts the same time Dibs rose for the first time, the first time (no pun intended lol) Kelsea Ballerini emerged in the top 10 scene before reappearing months later and dominating the charts.
“A cricket choir in the background, underneath a harvest moon Standing on your shoes in my bare feet, dancing to the rhythm of your heartbeat”

Nice set so far, especially "Cold Water" and "Heartbeat". I love "Heartbeat" in particular because the lyrics are exactly what I want with someone special in my life.

#195: Sam Hunt – House Party
Era: 3 Peak: 21 Weeks in Top 100: 20 Weeks in Top 10: N/A Points: 206835
…And yet another country song! And another era 3 song! Guess the first half of sophomore year/second half of 2015 was really important to me! Anyways, this song actually grew on me/peaked on my chart later than it did on Billboard. Local radio stations and Sirius XM seemed to delay this song’s plays by a month or two, as it peaked on Billboard in late August/early September and the stations played it a lot at around October/November. The song didn’t grow on me until late October, and like “Magnets”, I remember hearing it a whole lot when my parents drove me to the class. Being a follow up to “Take Your Time”, which was the first country song to hit the top 10 on my chart back in June 2015, Sam Hunt had a pretty good “star power” on my chart, so “House Party” actually stayed for a long time at around the 40s before it grew on me and rose to #21. I just loved the video as well, especially the guy with the “cocky” shirt lmao. The subject of this song is also so fun and sorta relevant to my life back then, since for the first time since like 7th grade, my new friends I made in high school and I had a party, actually TWO parties! One for Halloween and one for Thanksgiving. And SiriusXM played this song a whole ton during the weeks where we had the parties! Sadly, the song quickly grew off me as life started turning towards the bad side as we entered December and Winter Break, as I didn’t have the mood for “fun” anymore, so the song proved to drop out very quickly, barely sneaking in a few weeks in era 4. Sam Hunt will come back, however! He’s currently one of the best performing country artists on my chart, and be prepared for at least one more song on here from him!
“We'll go to town like they're in your living room Let's have a house party, we don't need nobody Turn your TV off, break that boom-box out”

#194: Shy Carter featuring Aleon Craft – Bring It Back
Era: early/mid 3 Peak: 19 Weeks in Top 100: 18 Weeks in Top 10: N/A Points: 207841
Once again proving how many songs I liked back in era 3, at #194 we have probably the first song on this countdown that isn’t that popular. Although little known, Shy Carter actually helped write many songs by other famous artists, and on certain ones, were even featured. He was actually active within the music industry since the last few years of the previous decade, where he collaborated with Nelly, Rob Thomas, Faith Hill, Ashanti, and Chingy. In the 2010s decade, he co-wrote “Stuck Like Glue” by Sugarland, one of the biggest country songs of the decade. In 2014, he was featured Gloria Trevi’s #1 Latin song “Habla Blah Blah” and Meghan Trainor’s album song “Mr. Almost” and in 2016, Charlie Puth’s “As You Are”. In his career, he has only released one solo song, and this is it! Despite little known outside of Sirius XM, this song, among all the super fun and awesome songs of the great times of era 3, remains one of the jumpiest, funnest, and happiest on record! And that’s what I like about it! Shy Carter sure does seem like a really fun guy to be around!
I remember Sirius XM being obsessed in the song and playing it over and over again. Back in era 3, I remember I always stayed at the school library after classes ended to get my homework done before having my mom pick me up at 7, when I’m usually done with work (sadly, junior year’s proving that I’m never gonna get my work done at 7 anymore). And I remember every time I hear this song on Sirius XM while doing homework, my efficiency skyrockets because of how upbeat and fun this song is. It simply motivates me to do so much better. Chart run wise, this song skyrocketed into the top 30 on its first weeks and stayed in the low 20s for quite a while before jumping to #19. After its peak, however, as my life turned more and more towards the bad side as era 3 draws to an end, like many happy era 3 songs, the song fell pretty quickly out of the region, and dropped out of my chart on the 3rd week of 2016/era 4. Regardless, this is still one of the happiest and unique songs I’ve ever listened to and I simply love the vibe it produces. If not for life going turning bad towards the end of era 3, I might actually see this song cracking the top 10, but sadly, life turned towards the sad side and I didn’t have the mood to be happy anymore… Regardless, Shy Carter should really make more songs like this!
“Baby baby bring it back, Got 250 on the dash, Supa pimped out Cadillacs, I got sumthin' that'll smash” “I'm a D.E.C.A.T.U.R. boy, 808s bang bang out that car boy, Need a podiatrist feet kinda hard boy, Cadillac spaceship fly away to Mars boy…”

#193: Mr. Probz – Waves
Era: Late 0/very early 1 Peak: 18 Weeks in Top 100: 17 Weeks in Top 10: N/A Points: 209674
Our first era 0/1 song on here… and it’s one of my favorites. The only reason why it’s not higher on here is because most of its points would’ve been in 2014, and I didn’t have a chart back then. Honestly, this would probably have peaked at #5ish if I had a personal chart prior to December 2014. But instead, and sadly, it only peaked at #18 on week 1 on my chart.
I remember my local radio station playing the Robin Schulz remix version a lot back in the “Shake It Off” era, and I thought the song was meh at first. But when I went on YouTube and looked up the video, I absolutely fell in love with the acoustic version. The slow tempo just feels better for a sad love song like this, but this is not your generic love song. The care that Mr. Probz puts in his singing, his voice, as well as the somewhat relaxing lyrics really prevents this from reaching “All Of Me”/”Stay With Me” status. And also, I’m literally in love with the ocean/any body of water, so I guess it makes sense that I love this song. After a bit of exposure, after listening to the remix on the radio, I felt that the remix conveys a different type of sadness, more of a mild sorrow than the acoustic version’s deep melancholy. Both versions, however, to convey a type of calmness that most sad/slow love songs don’t have but I absolutely love. But sadly, the song was pretty old at that point and my life was going on an upward path (I like sad music, but I’d rather listen to more upbeat songs when my life’s going up), so it only spent 17 weeks on my chart, and almost its entire run is downwards movements. Listening at the song now (both versions), however, I get a deep nostalgic and sorrow feeling about the past – how great the second half of 2014 and 2015 were. After the May 16 Incident, I started at a very low point in life and reached my highest point in almost my entire 16 years alive in era 3. I long for these years, and wish to turn back time to live it again, to experience the feeling of starting not really good and working my way up to happiness. And this song really helps get that nostalgia out. I legit cry to this song now. Although not finishing high on this list, this will definitely be one of the songs that last through the ages… I actually might consider recharting this…
“I'm slowly drifting away (drifting away) Wave after wave, wave after wave… And it feels like I'm drowning Pulling against the stream…”
You know, why did I even bother putting lyrics here? I love all the lyrics to this song…

#192: Pitbull featuring Chris Brown – Fun
Era: 2 Peak: 22 Weeks in Top 100: 23 Weeks in Top 10: N/A Points: 210219
As we completely switch gears from the sentimental but non-generic “Waves” to a song that lives up to its name: “Fun”! And what a great song as the first main era 2 song! Just some background, era 2, like era 3, was a period of happiness for me. Although it wasn’t as fun as era 3, era 2 was the most relaxing since it was late freshman year/Summer ’15 (while era 3 was 1st semester sophomore year), so of course, it’s more relaxing over the summer. Which era I was happiest (2 or 3), of course, is up for debate. Era 2 is more relaxing, but era 3 was more fun. Then there’s era 1, where I was definitely not at a high point, but I was rising in happiness, and maybe the very fact of rising is what makes me happy. I don’t know. Anyways, back to “Fun”
I first heard this song on the second to last day of freshman year, when my parents got me a new phone. Since I’m like the boss of dropping things, my parents drove me to a local mall to get a case for the phone. While driving there, the song first played on SiriusXM, and like “Bring It Back”, I love how upbeat it was, and although the chorus later proved to be a bit annoying, I adored it back then. Of course, right after I got my case, I had to go to that enrichment class again (I started taking it in May 2015 – and that’s related to another song as well! Until August 2015, the class was on Wednesdays, but after that, it’s on Saturdays). But at that point, I knew what was going on in the class and I kinda felt smart, so that day was a really “fun” day for me (I felt like I aced my finals that day as well, and it turns out I did)! I instantly charted “Fun” on the next edition on my chart and it debuted in the top 50 (pretty rare on my chart), and over the summer, it quickly rose to #22. The song had numerous plays on Sirius XM, so the song proved to last for a few weeks in the top 30, but as August 2015 came, Sirius XM didn’t play the song as much, and I rotated this song and a few others out for some new fun songs like “Bring It Back”. Since era 3 was, however, also very happy, “Fun” stuck around in the bottom 50 on my chart until the first week of November 2015. It fell of the charts the week "Stitches" ousted "The Hills" from the #1 position.
“Loosen up your body til' you come undone Loosen up your body baby come undone Oh my my, looking like good-good time…”
“Don't be shy, I just wanna live tonight Live a little F.U.N, fun”

#191: DJ Snake featuring Bipolar Sunshine – Middle
Era: late 4 to early 5 Peak: 19 Weeks in Top 100: 17 Weeks in Top 10: N/A Points: 211492We end off day 1 of this countdown with our first era 4/5 song. Obviously, eras 4 and 5 aren’t as happy as eras 2 and 3, especially 4. I will go in depth about these two eras in a few posts from this one. But for now, let’s get into this first DJ Snake song on this countdown (Also: Let Me Love You! Is it going to make the countdown? Still a question!) I first heard this song when watching Billboard videos by Testee, and as I heard a few phrases of this song, I felt it was really awesome. I was just slightly disappointed when I heard the entire song, however, but the part Testee uses in his videos is definitely awesome. And speaking of videos, the video to “Middle”, which was released a while after I first heard it, is a very unique one, and I still like it to this day. The song hence debuted, and with a strong chorus and video, managed to climb to the top 30, where it stalled for a bit. Then April and AP test reviewing came along. I went to the school library an hour before school that month, when the library is very desolate. I was pretty much the only one in there, and I found that I could focus really well when I’m studying somewhere lonely but not at home. So as I studied, an EDM playlist was recommended to me, and that was when three songs from the playlist I enjoyed a ton: “I Took A Pill In Ibiza”, “Don’t Let Me Down”, and “Middle”. All three songs have a lonely and mildly sorrowful vibe that fits really well for my mood back then: lonely library, era 4 being a bad time of my life, stress from AP tests and social life, etc. So all three songs grew on me a lot and started gaining a lot in points; “ITAPII” and “DLMD” grew into #1 songs as era 5 rolled (expect to see them further along in this countdown!), but sadly, “Middle” didn’t have the staying power as it stalled out at #19 and had a relatively quick fall. Hopefully we will all remember this as the “third lonely library song” and not the “forgotten lonely library song”. “I'll promise to build a new world for us two With you in the middle… ahah ahah…” What an opening day for my countdown! Hopefully you guys enjoyed it, I definitely did! So far, it brought back so many memories that are deep inside my brain. That being said, it’s time to get back to work. I will not get back home tomorrow until 8, so there will be no songs posted tomorrow. So see you guys on Thursday when I post the #190 to #181 songs! Wow, I am surprised how many country songs have made it so far! "John Cougar" is unfortunately one of my least favorite Keith Urban songs... As someone who was a huge fan of his mid-2000s work, which was like the epitome of country/rock, I find his most recent electronic/r&b direction to be pretty disappointing :/ "House Party" is great though! I have liked everything I have heard from Sam Hunt so far. I predict that the song of his that you still have coming up is "Take Your Time"! Although I hope that is not the only one, as "Break Up In A Small Town" seems like it would be right up your alley :) Finally, "Heartbeat" I agree with everything you said. It is one of my favorite songs of Carrie's career! I just love everything about it, from the laid-back delivery of the verses to the sneaky dobro and steel guitar that are totally present throughout the song (despite the fact that it is not super closely aligned to the sounds of traditional country). It is definitely going to make an appearance on my year-end countdown too! Those are the only songs I know already, so I will have to check out the others and get back to you with an opinion!

#190: Echosmith – Cool Kids
Era: 0 to very early 1 Peak: 22 Weeks in Top 100: 18 Weeks in Top 10: N/A Points: 213653
We start off Day 2 of the countdown with another era 0 song that spilled over into era 1. If I had a chart prior to December 2014, this probably would’ve peaked at around 8-9ish, but sadly, “Cool Kids” managed to debut at #22 on week 1 and have a very similar run to “Waves”.
I liked this song from the start. Summer ’14 was the time where I recovered from the May 16 Incident – although I took a summer class, I really kept to myself a whole lot and barely had anyone I could lean on (pun intended lol) other than my parents. And because my parents are so mad at me about May 16, I was pretty much fending for myself. May 16 and the summer was the lowest point of my life, but it kinda felt good back then to realize that the worst (May 16) was all over, and all that’s left was for me to prove that I’ve changed. After the summer class, my parents took me on a vacation to Oregon and Washington, which is, honestly, probably my favorite vacation of my life. I view this vacation as the end of the old self and the start of the new “chicken077”. The local radio station at this town called Sequim (I watched this one sunset there – it’s the uniquest sunset I’ve ever experienced and probably the best) there always played “Cool Kids”, and I instantly loved Sydney’s voice. The song also has a chill/relaxed quality to it and has a sense of childishness and naivety that I really liked especially after the tough May 16 Incident (I’ll elaborate on that next week). “Cool Kids” has very simple lyrics that many criticized, but imo they perfectly do their job of conveying childishness and that’s honestly what the song is all about... And after experiencing some tough societal issues related to betrayal, lying, etc. in May 16, I really needed songs like this to remind me that sometimes, being naive is truly the best time of life. After the school year started, “Cool Kids” started emerging on the Hot 100 and I started enjoying it more and more, but sadly, it was well past its peak when my personal chart started, and I had to rank it at #22. It was all downhill for this song from then on, but still, this song will be one of the songs that live on through history despite a low rank here – mainly because “Cool Kids” reminds me of Sequim (this is not the only song! There’s gonna be more to come!), and to this day I still consider that sunset I experienced there as the place where I “symbolically changed to the new chicken077”.
“And he says, "I wish that I could be like the cool kids, 'Cause all the cool kids, they seem to fit in.”

#189: Calvin Harris featuring John Newman – Blame
Era: Very late 0 to early/mid 1 Peak: 29 Weeks in Top 100: 18 Weeks in Top 10: N/A Points: 217568
Ahh… another era 0/1 border song. Honestly 0/1 border is my absolute favorite – it’s when I first really got into music and the charts, and it’s right after the May 16 Incident, so I was probably the best kid back then. After all the joy/carefree I experienced in eras 2 and 3 because of the atonement in eras 0 and 1 and all the pain/stress in eras 4, 5, and 6 (well mid to late 5 is not that bad tbh), I feel my personality is getting more twisted by the day, and hopefully I won’t get to May 16 levels again. Also I became friends with my crush back in this era as well as making tons of new friends – I really started a new life at that time… but sadly, socially the new life collapsed in era 4 and early 5.
Anyways, “Blame” is famous, at least on Pulse, for being the song to be screwed over by Billboard because it perfectly got cut off between the 2014 and 2015 YE lists. I do recall, however, that this song was pretty popular on SiriusXM Hits 1 through early 2015. I actually first heard this song the day my family bought a new car on the Sunday after Thanksgiving 2014 on the car’s SiriusXM preview. I didn’t really like the song at first, but through December, it gradually grew on me. John Newman’s voice is a bit annoying at first, but as I heard it more, I sensed an aura of darkness and through his intense voice, still manages to convey a type of soft sorrow that I can’t really describe. I especially learned to love that drop, like right after “don’t blame it on me”, I love how the drop builds up layer by layer until it hits the song’s final intensity, and those measures still remain one of my favorite phrases of all of EDM. I feel it is sort of an expression of unreleased tension and aggravation, which sorta describes my life back then: just recovering from May 16 so having some unreleased aggravation in me. Definitely one of the best Calvin Harris works I’ve heard over his years. Like “Cool Kids” and “Waves”, this would’ve peaked higher if I had a chart in December, but sadly, it only peaked at #29. And although this song doesn’t bring back any specific memory other than buying the new car with the SiriusXM radio, I feel like this song will still go down in history like "Waves", and it still gives me memories of the good times in late 2014/early 2015 when I hear it.
“So blame it on the night Don't blame it on me Don't blame it on me (awesome drop follows)”

#188: Daya and Kelsea Ballerini – Hide Away/Peter Pan Mashup
Era: 5 to early 6 Peak: 33 Weeks in Top 100: 20 (still on) Weeks in Top 10: N/A Points: 219437
WHAT?! THIS MADE IT ON? It sure did! And to Daya and Kelsea Ballerini fans like myself, what a pleasant surprise! And it’s technically the first Daya song AND the first Kelsea Ballerini song on this countdown! Obviously, both artists will have many more songs on this countdown! Also, this is one of the only songs that made it here without hitting the top 30. It’s also the only mashup song, only performance song, and with it still charting in the bottom half of my chart and is looking to have some pretty good longevity, it’s looking to score well in other YE charts as well!
Both Kelsea and Daya were nominated for Radio Disney’s Best New Artist this year, with Kelsea taking the final title. And when the rewards came along, Kelsea and Daya decided to team up to perform a mashup of two of my favorite songs: Hide Away and Peter Pan. At that time, Peter Pan was just starting to blast up my chart and Hide Away just finished its top 20 run, so I instantly fell in love with this mashup when I first heard it when I saw it on my YouTube recommendations list. (I almost shouted when I saw Kelsea and Daya collaborating!) Also funny because this appeared on my recommendations list when I was watching one of my own countdown videos lol. And since I love both Kelsea and Daya, the song instantly charted. It stalled back for a while in the 50s, but soon broke past into the top 50 and reached a peak of #33 and having pretty good longevity near its peak. It did, however, fall back down into the bottom half due to increasing competition, but is holding pretty well for a non-top 30 song in the bottom region, and is actually not looking to fall off anytime soon! I just simply love this mashup, and I love their cooperation and chemistry on stage. And I really loved how the two girls became cute friends right after, love them both! This is pretty much as good as a performance mashup can get, and hopefully this can last in my chart over the next months despite having a relatively low peak.
Ehh… not gonna do fave lyrics for this one, since, well, all the lyrics are from “Hide Away” and “Peter Pan”! And those two songs will be charting here!

#187: Andy Grammer – Good To Be Alive (Hallelujah)
Era: 3 Peak: 25 Weeks in Top 100: 17 Weeks in Top 10: N/A Points: 220134
I guess based on experiences, this song is very similar with “Bring It Back”. I mean, this lasted for a bit shorter than the Shy Carter song and even peaked 6 positions lower, but I guess because it lasted around the low 20s for a long time but “Bring It Back” fell quicker, so this managed to nudge above it on this chart. This song along with “Bring It Back” are both songs, where last year October/November ish, where I used to spend much of my time after school at the school library doing my homework, and that is when both songs are played many times by SiriusXM. So “Good To Be Alive” was also another one of those “library songs”. This is another one of those happy and upbeat songs like Andy Grammer’s previous works, so my efficiency also skyrockets when I hear this song. Unlike “Bring It Back”, however, which SiriusXM rotated out after November ish, this song stayed on SiriusXM’s playlist until December. So I remembered it being very dark and lonely at the library last November, and this was one of the songs I usually hear (though that era spawned other “library songs” that will appear later here). Towards mid December, however, life got worse, winter break came so I didn’t go to the library anymore, and SiriusXM rotated this out, so this dropped out pretty quickly, like many other era 3 songs.

#186: Selena Gomez featuring A$AP Rocky – Good For You
Era: 2 to early 3 Peak: 24 Weeks in Top 10: 22 Weeks in Top 10: N/A Points: 222394
I always had mixed feelings about this song tbh. I loved “The Heart Wants What It Wants” (look for it later on this countdown!). When this first debuted on the Billboard charts, I felt it was a step down – I can clearly see Selena’s care in her delivery in “Heart Wants”, which allows her to convey some pretty deep emotions. This song, however, I felt went along the same path as “Heart Wants”, just less emotional sentiment. That summer, I took pre-calculus over the summer (which is one of the most important times of my life. I will elaborate on that more in later posts), and we had a long weekend for Independence Day, and that was when “Good For You” was released. Right after Friday’s class before the long weekend, my mom took me to Antioch, where a huge fire burned down acres of hills – we wanted to see the aftermath of the fire. I remember on the way there, I heard the song for the first time, and I felt that despite it was musically a step down, I still somehow liked it. The week after was when it reached its peak of #22. (So I guess this song is tied to the scorched earth I saw from the fire that day...) SiriusXM started falling in love with it, so by the time school started, I was like ugh… Good For You… Despite the song reminding me of the Independence Day Weekend (again, I believe it’s one of the most important weekends of one of the most important eras), I still didn’t like it, as there were other songs that reminded me of the weekend such as “Can’t Feel My Face”. So this song lasted on my chart in early era 3 only because it was in the Billboard top 10, and fell off on bad measures. I didn’t like this song until the time I made my video for the top 150 songs of June 2015 to May 2016 this June, when I reheard this song. I actually started liking it and I feel that Selena conveys a different kind of sorrow in this than “Heart Wants”, and in this one, more subtle and dreamy. And tbh that's when I truly started appreciating this song and the dreamy aura it produces. It grew on me a lot, but sadly, it was too late and didn’t rechart. It did, however, remind me that in Independence Day Weekend, other than “Can’t Feel My Face”, there were other songs that I liked.
I will talk about the Independence Day Weekend next Wednesday when I spend the day talking about my life and origins of this personal chart along with many other references that may seem a bit vague to you at this point. But I think this mystery is kinda what makes this countdown interesting! Like you start with little knowledge about me, and in the middle I'll tell you some background info so you'll understand the second half of this countdown better :)
"I'm a marquise diamond Could even make that Tiffany jealous, mhm You say I give it to you hard So bad, so bad Make you never wanna leave I won't, I won't"
That was a pretty interesting 5 songs! The next 5 songs are coming in a few hours, so stay tuned!!!

#185: Robin Schulz featuring Francesco Yates – Sugar:
Era: late 4 to very early 5 Peak: 21 Weeks in Top 100: 21 Weeks in Top 10: N/A Points: 224734
Ahh… this song… Robin Schulz had numerous hits back in 2015, including a mention on “Waves” (and I assure you, at least one more Robin Schulz song is coming up ahead!). But most of his songs are on the sadder side. Since I was mainly happy in 2015, these sadder songs did manage to catch some traction but not much.
Then comes this song: “Sugar”. When I first heard it back in February 2016 during some pretty sad times, the song was just really fun and “flowy” I guess you can say? to listen to. It served as a lighthearted break from all the stress I had back in late era 4. Hence, the song started surging up the charts in March and April, hitting its peak at #21 at the era 4-5 transition. As life continued to grow worse and sadder songs continued to take over my chart (including those three “lonely library songs” I was talking about in “Middle”), I really wasn’t in the mood for happy songs like this one. I just can’t get in the lighthearted spirit to fully enjoy it. So sadly, “Sugar” fell off pretty quickly and suddenly from its peak as era 5 progressed, but still managed to slip in a position here and probably a position on the 2016 YE chart. Of all the Robin Schulz songs I have charted, this is probably the most lighthearted, but the most unlucky – it charted in an era where I wanted sadder songs. Put this in 2015 and I don’t even know how much success this will get. I mean just look at the video! Every time I watch it I crack up and get super happy! Robin Schulz I guess is an unlucky artist on my chart. In 2014, “Waves” would’ve charted higher, but I didn’t have a chart. In 2015, his sadder songs grew on me, and since it’s not correspondent of the era, they didn’t do as well. And in 2016, Sugar really got screwed over by my depressed mood. Hopefully he’ll get some more success he deserves in future years, because he really deserves it.
“Got me lifted, drifted higher than the ceiling And ooh, baby, it's the ultimate feeling You've got me lifted, feeling so gifted Sugar, how you get so fly?”

#184: Tove Lo – Habits (Stay High)
Era: late 0 to very early 1 Peak: 16 Weeks in Top 100: 16 Weeks in Top 10: N/A Points: 225360
My experience with this song is very similar with “Waves”. I first heard it on a local radio station and thinking it was meh at around the time it peaked on Billboard. But one day I was curious enough to go home and watch the video. Though I didn’t instantly like it, this proved to be a grower. Around the same time, our family got the new car with SiriusXM, and they seemed to love the song. So with every play SiriusXM plays, I seem to like it more. And when SiriusXM started playing “Talking Body”, I started really liking Tove’s voice and also how she conveys some really deep and dark topics in her songs. I also love the courage she has to talk about these controversial issues in pop songs. Like “Waves”, however, by the time my chart started, much of its points have already been wasted. However, this fared a bit better than “Waves” since it grew on me just a tiny bit at around week 3-4 ish, enough to let it rebound to #17. Sadly, like “Waves”, it fell off relatively quickly and sadly didn’t last too long on my chart…
This song I do relate with that night piano class I have on Fridays back in freshman year. The week after Daylight Savings Time, by the time we drove home, it was very dark (and as always, there was a traffic jam). Once the jam cleared as the road winded into a pretty unpopulated region (Sunol), the radio started playing this song, and it was just days after the song started to grow on me. The vibe of the song fit really well with driving in the dark, as I feel “Habits” conveys a sense of loneliness that results from being very social and doing controversial things. I feel like that pretty much described my life back then: after the controversy surrounding May 16, I changed, but everybody thinks that I haven’t and that I’m a really bad guy. So I sometimes get a bit lonely at school back then, and driving in the dark really brings that emotion out. Retrospecting, however, I feel like although the loneliness I felt was real, it was a kind of “happy loneliness”, since I was, indeed gradually gaining reputation by the day, so each day seemed to be better than the last… unlike my situation in 2016… So I truly long for that period of time, even if I feel lonely. I feel it’s better to be lonely but know that you’re on an upward trend than to be known everywhere but on a downward trend… So yeah, “Habits” truly invokes that lonely feeling out, and although it probably won’t make the next all time chart, it will be remembered forever.
"Spend my days locked in a haze Trying to forget you babe I fall back down Gotta stay high all my life To forget I'm missing you"

#183: Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa & Imagine Dragons with Logic, Ty Dolla $ign, and X Ambassadors – Sucker For Pain
Era: 6 Peak: 17 Weeks in Top 100: 14 (still on) Weeks in Top 10: N/A Points: 225692
The second song to make this list with less than 15 weeks on chart! The first one was “This Girl”, which means there’s one more to go. Which song could it be? Anyways, “Sucker For Pain” is, obviously, the Suicide Squad soundtrack, and is one of a few that will make this countdown. The Suicide Squad hype grew on me a bit later than everyone else, as I watched the movie 4 weeks after release. However, I really thought the movie put a creative twist on superheroes and I enjoyed it (despite getting bashed by critics lol). More importantly, the soundtrack, and of the ones I charted, “Sucker For Pain” is definitely the most unique. Combining elements of rock and rap, I truly felt that this, like the movie, was a very creative twist on music. Hence, this song climbed fast on my charts to a peak of #17. Sadly, as the Suicide Squad hype died down, the song proved to fall with the hype, and is on its way down relatively quickly.
So my personal memory that relates to this song didn’t happen long ago, because, well, the song has only been charting for 14 weeks! So on the first day of junior year, we had a “free period orientation” that I didn’t really have to participate. But my crush’s two friends were there, so I kinda wanted to join in. We weren’t paying attention to the orientation, and we were just listening to music. The two were huge K-Pop fans and never listen to American pop music. But on that day, I was listening to “Sucker For Pain”, and one of the girls was like, “Hey, I really like that song!” And I was like, “wait, don’t you not listen to American music?” And she was like, “well, I like some American music, but I feel that American radio overplays a lot of songs so I kinda listen to K-Pop when I’m tired”. So I quickly introduced her to some of the popular songs, and she kinda became interested about this whole “personal chart” thing, and she was literally my 10th subscriber on my channel! And also, I think she’s on Week 7 or 8 of her personal chart (though around 70% of it is K-Pop lmao)! Although era 6 was marked by increased stress not only on social life, but also academic life, I guess “Sucker For Pain” acted as a little exception from all these stress, and is actually a positive aspect of my life during the current era 6, something pretty hard to find for me outside of Pulse and music.
“I torture you Take my hand through the flames I torture you I'm a slave to your games I'm just a sucker for pain” (lol, lyrics are a bit disturbing)

#182: Los 5 – Manana
Era: mid to late 2 Peak: 20 Weeks in Top 100: 18 Weeks in Top 10: N/A Points: 227539
Honestly, I don’t know if anyone knows this song. Maybe Leo does? Cause it’s from a Latin group (but this song’s in English). “Bring It Back” was unpopular enough, but gravey knew that song. So I’m expecting for this song, at the maximum, Leo knows it, and anyone else pretty sure doesn’t know this song at all. Anyways, this song had a very standard era 2/3 chart run, mildly fast rise to the peak, staying there for a bit, finally falling quickly.
But this song brings back a great memory! And a coincidence! And remember, this is during era 2, so I was really happy back then! So the summer pre-calculus class I took lasted for 6 weeks (hence I still had 5 weeks left of summer), so on the weekend after it ended, my parents knew I was tired, so they took me on a daytrip to Clear Lake, around 150 miles north of where I live. So along the road, my parents were listening to their talk show, and once we got to around Cloverdale (northernmost city of the Bay Area), they switched to SiriusXM, and this song was the next full song played. Previously, I’ve heard it many times, but it didn’t seem to grow on me. This time, however, I was truly stress-free and happy (no school for 5 weeks, everything going very well socially), so that’s when I truly loved how jumpy and happy this song is despite taking on a mildly stressful topic (convincing someone to not worry about tomorrow basically). I recall through the trip to Clear Lake, this song played like 3-4 times. Combine that with my happy mood, this made the daytrip to the lake one of the happiest trips I took (the one to Oregon/Washington I talked about in “Cool Kids” was the most important trip though). So this song basically became a symbol of happiness and carefree-ness back in era 2 (there were others too, and many will show up here!) So here’s where the coincidence comes in. This summer, exactly 1 year (based on Instagram dates and looking at the calendar to determine my travel date) after I took the trip to Clear Lake, my crush posted something on Instagram. It was a picture of her at Clear Lake, almost the exact same location where I took my picture there. So yeah… I don’t even know... I have been through many coincidences in my life, and some I will talk about (and some involving my crush as well), but this is one of the craziest… And how that relates with “Manana”? I don’t know. All I know is that Clear Lake reminds me of this song, which in turn remind me of happiness!... and my crush...
“No matter what comes, I'll never let go Where we end up, girl I don't know Let's forget about Manana Just forget about Manana”

#181: Katy Tiz – Whistle (While You Work It)
Era: late 1/early to mid 2 Peak: 26 Weeks in Top 100: 23 Weeks in Top 10: N/A Points: 228571We end off Day 2 of this Top 200 countdown with another song that I don’t know how many of you know. But it’s a song of another time period! We’ve seen songs that have been with me since late 2014, songs that just recently grew on me, songs during my best times, during my worst times… But this song came in a weird time – the border of eras 1 and 2, around the time “Uptown Funk” was spending its last weeks at #1 on BB Hot 100 and “See You Again” began its tenure. The biggest memory I have in that time was that during Spring Break 2015, I made a quick trip to China to visit my family members, but that’s not related with this particular song. Truly, I hated this song when it first came out in late era 1. But it was so rampant on my local radio and SiriusXM that there was no way to avoid it. But as summer approached and my life started getting happier and happier, I started relating with this song’s extremely carefree and almost silly vibe. Once the summer began, this song started growing off my local radio station, but SiriusXM kept it alive. I started enjoying the silliness and I love the video, propelling this song to a #26 peak. So technically, this peaked at around mid era 2, but since the song was so rampant at the era 1 and 2 boundary, I consider this a half era 1 song. But interestingly, the song seems to be not super popular outside my radio station and SiriusXM, so idk how many of you know this. So all in all, I guess the trajectory of this song kinda gives you an idea of how my life was at that time. Era 1 was an era of upward motion. Although I didn’t feel happy then, retrospecting, that was probably my best time. Era 2 was simply happy and carefree, while era 3 took that happiness on a new level before plunging into the darkness of era 4. So back then, I felt as if era 2 was a really great time of my life, better than era 1. This song, which is a very upbeat and silly song, I guess represents my happiness of that time. I wasn’t that happy back in era 1, so I didn’t like this song. But in era 2, I was super happy, so it really grew on me… It seems as if a few songs are like that, but the problem I currently have with that is, I SHOULD be happiest back in era 1, since although I wasn’t at my high point, my happiness was growing the fastest. But all evidence points to 2 or 3 being my eras of highest hope. I don’t know honestly. That’s one question I want to answer through this countdown. When I was experiencing the eras, why did I feel as if era 2/3 was the eras with most hope when I’m reaching my peak, but looking back on it, I miss era 1 much more than 2/3? Hopefully that all made sense and didn’t annoy you all… “My day one rule, is keeping my cool Even if I'm broken up If you blow my high, You won't see me cry Gotta whistle while you work it” And that's a wrap on Day 2! Gotta run off to study again lol! Tomorrow afternoon, we will continue this countdown with our #180 song! Hopefully you guys are all enjoying this so far!
