New label, new album era, new website with free music. www.billboard.com/articles/news/7416473/kelly-clarkson-atlantic-deal-2017-albumKelly Clarkson Signs Long-Term Deal With Atlantic, Preparing Soul/R&B-Inspired Album for 20176/24/2016 by Joe Lynch Kelly Clarkson -- who had been with RCA since winning the first season of American Idol in 2002 -- announced she's moving to Atlantic as part of a long-term worldwide deal on Friday, June 24. Clarkson's first order of business on the new label will to be record an album for 2017 that "will draw from the inspiration of soul and R&B as the foundation of her endearing lyrics and powerhouse vocals," according to a press release. I'm here for this! I always loved Kelly and enjoyed all her albums but often felt she had too much talent to waste it singing made for radio pop songs. I am so ready for this new chapter.

One step closer to callaborating with Bruno Mars as they are now labelmates!!! Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, Rob Thomas/MB20 are also signed to Atlantic!

Yes!! Such a smart choice to leave RCA. Looking forward to hearing this soul album. If it's along the lines of "Thankful", I'll most likely be pretty bored with it but I am hoping for the best!

I'm so excited that Atlantic may finally start branding Kelly by her voice, something it never seemed like RCA capitalized on. I would much rather her PR focus on her voice than her "girl-next-door" personality.

A couple of websites are mis-reporting that the soul album will consist of covers.

I'd say she's definitely Atlantic's biggest female artist, and getting her is a huge coup for them.
I think we'll be getting more self-penned tracks per album (for better or worse tbh), and that making that shift in her career was likely the big motivator for her in making this choice. The Piece by Piece Idol explosion seemed to really put a stamp on how RCA had bungled the era, and reinforced her confidence in her songwriting (again for better or worse) and her belief that her instincts are correct. The fact that a song she wrote became the smash single of the album out of nowhere stands out compared to the by-the-numbers HBS and Invincible.
Perched for the album, as long as she SERVES vocals.

It's so crazy to think back to the MD era and her feud with RCA, then fast forward to this. I'm always excited for new Kelly music, but the promise of creative control and her own elation about the signing has me more amped than ever before. Can't wait to see what she cooks up.

Just curious, why all the "for worse" comments? Given her writing credits on her last two albums especially, I'd say having more self-penned songs can only be a positive. Unless you're still holding out hope for a CHR #1...

I love that the songs that Kelly gave us are straight from the soundboard and sound so much better than what we had heard before from fan cameras. "Creep" is so powerful. ♥

FINALLY she's going to release an r&b/soul album. I cannot WAIT for this. Hopefully it's as soulful as her Christmas album.

But even so, there's that, but then all the WIR originals and the other self-penned stuff on PBP that is among the best she's ever done. Here's hoping that was a blip.

I hope she takes her f*cking time and writes some genuine poetry and creates a really mature, emotionally powerful concept album. I sense her excitement is creative and innovative so I hope she really translates that into some artistic exploration -- not just in genre, but also in the complexity and depth of her music. This is a really, really thrilling moment for her and her fans. Cannot wait.

The lyrics of "I Had a Dream" are borderline offensive, but I actually think the rest of the song is pretty great. I feel similarly about "Don't Be A Girl About It" - a song that could have been so fun and playful had she worked with that sexist phrase in a different way.
I'm obviously biased, but I find that the songs Kelly writes are more often than not the best on her album. I'm SO happy that she is moving to Atlantic records. Today marks one of the most exciting and important moments of her career.

Yeah, WiR was pretty much ace across the board. I even came around on 4 Carats. Some of the responsibility for avoiding "I Had a Dream"s will rest on her team and the people at Atlantic, but it's well known that when she is dead set on a choice, she means it and there's nothing to be done. There's a balance in songs she's co-wrote that stands out, at least on the Pop stuff. I think she'll be much more natural on soul/stripped down stuff to be honest (Tightrope), and stays away from message songs. Let the actual song be the message (Piece by Piece) and do the talking for itself.

Great news!!
In regards to what *I* knew, having worked at Sony I knew she wasn't there any more. I had no idea where she went to, so this is as much a surprise for me as anybody else.
In regards to what's next, I think Piece By Piece, the Idol performance happened at the perfect time and is a great reminder of what she can do when she connects with the public.
I know record labels in the US have been desperate to recreate that Adele magic on their own turf, and imagine that's the kind of record/direction they're going to work on Kelly with. Don't be surprised to see her working with Bruno and his team, as well as Ed Sheeran, to really be their female equivalent and their banner female Pop voice.
Great move, great fit. Live stuff is super exciting and this really feels like one of those happy endings/nice stories in the music industry that are all too full of plights like Kesha's.

I'm hoping for a soulful / poppy sound still. I'm definitely way more into her pop anthems than anything else. I like the new beginning and Atlantic will make her a big focus / priority (like RCA used to do). But the thought of her doing a straight up soul / R&B album kinda scares me, since Thankful is my least fav album of hers.

I'm so happy that she's happy. She's that person who had all of their dreams come true after overcoming hardship. She won a competition and no one knew what would happen, she became an international pop sensation, married a seemingly AMAZING guy, has two kids, became friends (family) with one of her biggest idols, and has maintained a down to earth lovable personality.
I'm so proud to stan for this legend.
