Not much lower than pre-Christmas. It's freezing cold and a pandemic, casual streamers just aren't using the platform right now. People are stuck indoors at home unable to gather. They're streaming Netflix, not Spotify.
Of course my introverted music loving ass is all about listening to music at home by myself, but apparently that's not the way the average person listens to music.

Has anyone figured out how long of a time period the top songs on an artist's page represents? In looking at Mariah Carey's page, she still has 3 holiday songs in her top 10. I've been following the streams of her songs, and some of those have had less than other songs in her top 10 for well over a month now but are still ranked higher. Does it reflect like 6 or more weeks? Spotify never fully disclosed their methodology but we know it's not just based on recent streams (like you have been watching and trying to figure out). I think somewhere in the Spotify forum the response was "It's a combination of all-time popularity & recent popularity." Since "AIWFCIY" is probably Mariah's most streamed song by a large, 600M+ stream-margin, that's probably why it's still the top song on her page. I'm guessing it will slowly make its way down in the coming months, but I don't know if it ever falls out of her Top 10. Since you posted this 3 days ago, there seems to be a difference already–I see only 2 holiday tunes in her Top 10 popular tracks. "AIWFCIY" at the top, and "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" at No.7.

Take out Olivia Rodrigo and that drop would look even worse. Are people not in the mood to stream or what? They are streaming, but not current hits. Also the only big album release we have had in 2021(after 7 fridays) is the country album and that is it. 2018 was the strongest for current hit streaming because there were big albums every second week. Not much lower than pre-Christmas. It's freezing cold and a pandemic, casual streamers just aren't using the platform right now. People are stuck indoors at home unable to gather. They're streaming Netflix, not Spotify. Audio streaming of whole catalogues for artsts that haven't released albums or many singles after 2019. So we can compare streaming 2020 vs 2021. It was also the best-selling non-single of the iTunes era. At this point its non-single-ness isn’t even relevant; people know it as a classic song, not a fan-favorite album track

Gaga and Rihanna are the only ones who haven't even released new music in months, slay!

I've also seen with some artists where a brand new song makes an artist's top 10 within a couple days...Thanks for the reply.

Audio streaming of whole catalogues for artsts that haven't released albums or many singles after 2019. This was interesting, thanks. Not surprisingly male artists dominate. How in the world did Alan Jackson get so many streams, though? That surprised me the most. Blake Shelton, too, but at least he's still active on modern country radio (and TV of course) so it makes some sense.

Khalid talking about collabing with new artists in that video while in a studio just continues to support my theory that the poor man is never allowed to leave the studio. 😭

I think he benefits from having such a vast catalog of hits spanning several decades that one well-known song of his or another will end up near the top of just about any classic country playlist.

Blinding Lights has surpassed 2B streams
It will become the most streamed song of all time at some point. The only question is when

Does it reflect like 6 or more weeks? I think it might also take into account other forms of engagement rather than just raw streams, like how many people save the song to their library or add it to a playlist. Taylor Swift's "most popular" songs on her page are also not exactly the ones getting the most daily streams. I think Blank Space, Shake It Off, Love Story and I Knew You Were Trouble have been out-streaming You Need To Calm Down and ME! for a year or more now... like it's definitely not a new thing.

Taylor, Katy, Gaga and Rihanna have all seen their old albums steadily increasing over the past year too. Maybe people aren't socializing as much, so they are sharing new music through word of mouth as much? But yeah, I don't think overall streaming is decreasing much, it's just the chart hits that are. It would be interesting to also see if all new music is impacted or if it's just the hits. Like are alternative/underground artists impacted by any decreases? Or even new album tracks by mainstream artists? I do feel like there's fewer major new releases than 1-2 years ago though, so that's probably at least part of it.

Last week's streams of each country's top 200 songs chart. Gives a sense of what countries use Spotify the most.

Would love to see that normalized for population as well.

It‘s gonna be exciting to find out how South Korea’s numbers will develop in the future.

Sweden would be a lot higher, if not #1, when normalized to the population. 48 million here and 10 million people. EDIT: Norway would probably defeat them.

It‘s gonna be exciting to find out how South Korea’s numbers will develop in the future. I'm curious how all the new markets will do. Probably won't be huge initially but in aggregate they might become decently significant eventually. Sub-Saharan Africa had basically no availability in the past, and now most of the big countries there will be covered. Bangladesh and Pakistan will probably become decently important too, although obviously not as big as India which has 7x the population.

Rihanna‘s numbers a incredible. Her next album is gonna be massive. Also great that Bey and Shakira as 90s girls can still achieve relatively good numbers on Spotify. Where the hell is Adele? I know she only has 3 albums, but I figured she‘d find greater success on the pop-oriented platform.
