They played "Beautiful Soul" by Jesse McCartney followed by "Cruel Summer" by Bananarama. I'm sold.

I flipped through the schedule- glad to see actual music videos are part of the programming.

^Actual music videos were part of VH1 Classics. They played music videos every morning M-F.

I haven't had the chance to watch this yet. However, when I was scrolling through the TV listings yesterday, I saw that MTV Jams was still there and it wasn't changed to BET Jams yet.

So...In the spring, VH1 Soul became BET Soul, and this month, VH1 Classic became MTV Classic...
...Which leads me to one obvious conclusion: Soon enough, Viacom will announce that the network once known by its full name, VIDEO HITS ONE (VH1), will cease operations under that name, and VH1 itself (1983-2017?) will be renamed as another MTV channel, or given a new name.
When was VH1's final top 20 weekly countdown? I gather that is when it ceased to be a music channel (excluding VH1 Soul and VH1 Classic). With nothing but reality television on their primary channel, and their 2 music channels (Soul and Classic) handed to Viacom's other call signs (BET and MTV), there is absolutely no reason to continue naming their primary channel by what is now a farce. There is no more music at Video Hits One; only reality TV...
...Which, when last I heard, may be on its way to self-destruction due to overload and excess. Who remembers when TLC (The Learning Channel) was a channel where you actually learned something? And let us not forget, reality TV killed the soap star. I wonder what the lyrics would look and sound like, if put to the music of the Buggles' 1979 song "Video Killed The Radio Star".

In another change, on September 9 MTV Hits became NickMusic (as in Nickelodeon).

A way to market to teens who have no nostalgia for the MTV brand.

Does MTV have any relevance at all to today's teens? I mean they held on to a shred of relevancy with my age demo thanks to some of their hit reality shows in the mid 00's, but now it feels like they've fallen entirely into obscurity.

It's really a study case, isnt' it? MTV and its whole vibe was such a BIG part of my youth.

You're also not their target demo anymore. They still have several big shows popular with teens. Teen Wolf, Scream, Legends of Shannara, a few others.

I came across this channel a few weeks ago because I was scrolling through the guide and noticed that Daria was on. I watched a few episodes and, while Daria has practically infinite replay value, I was disappointed by the lack of licensed music.
Then recently, I found out that the official MTV channel on YT uploaded a couple of episodes, complete with all the music. Granted, it's only two episodes, but the licensed songs just make it feel right. I hadn't been able to enjoy that experience since The N quit airing the show (shame that the DVD releases and every channel that's aired it since use generic filler), so it has a lot of nostalgic value for me.

Yeah. A big part of Daria WAS the music.
