I was bringing up the Rise thing because I thought it was so ridiculous that people were saying Katy's next single was a "guaranteed" #1. If you wanna say somebody has a good shot at #1, by all means. But saying "guarantee" is ridiculous.
Ultimately it doesn't matter at all, but I have a lot more respect for people who don't make such bold claims, and even more respect for people who admit when they were wrong. And I was noticing a distinct lack of humility on the part of the "guaranteed #1" crowd.
Honestly, "Rise" could still hit #1 eventulaly, but I just don't see it happening. As I've always said, it depends on the song itself, not just the artist, and in this case "Rise" doesn't seem like a surefire crowd pleaser.

so, any chance for heathens for being a big hit? It keeps raising on alternative, streaming and sales as well. Hope it gets big callout on pop radio. I think it will easily be another hit for TØP. I mean they have huge momentum going for them at the moment after Stressed Out and Ride. And Heathens currently has great streaming and sales for a song that hasn't been sent to Pop and has minimal radio AirPlay. Additionally, I think it'll stay in the top 30 of the hot 100 even without the Pop AirPlay for some more time due to the release of Suicide Squad.

I could see it hitting top 10 maybe with the debut of Suicide Squad in a couple of weeks and maybe peaking in the top 5. But I don't think it hits number 1 In a related song from movie question, should JT have waited to unveil Can't Stop the Feeling until it was closer to the Trolls premiere?

But Rise is just a leftover, it's so obvious. It's what Just Like Fire is to Pink which I don't consider as "first single" either But "JLF" is a single, and it has been a hit. In other words, it's possible for these artists to have hits with one-off singles. Like Four Five Seconds which although it didn't hit number 1 did end up in the top 5.

But anyway, if the One Dance video does end up coming out, it can definitely return to #1 Matter of personal tastes... I guess.(I think OD is just 'good' and CT is a couple degrees better) BTW there is not much chance for OD to return to #1 now IMO...Even if a video comes out soon, it will likely be an Apple exclusive for a couple of weeks and by the time it comes on YouTube... sales and airplay will be too low.... all a video can do now is lengthen its stay in Top-10 and give it a shot at #1 Year-End.

Well Cheap Thrills was on sale this week (ha, I guess it was a "cheap thrill" for buyers, if you will xD), so its sales will surely go down, meaning that if the video for One Dance is any good (and is released to YouTube as well as Apple Music) then it should be able to take back over within the next couple weeks. And even now, One Dance is ahead in airplay and WAY ahead in streaming (and will be even further ahead if the video gets released).

Streaming is still increasing for CT and will be 14M+ after next week...While OD is continously declining on Spotify.... So there is a very small window for OD to regain #1... and it closes in a couple of weeks... and only if both the conditions are met: CT sale is over and OD video gets released on youtube in this time period.

Not topping any component chart, Cheap Thrills' no.1 is more "Cheap" than "Thrill", just like its quality as a song

Cheap Thrills is the best song to rise to #1 this year in my opinion, by far. Just putting that out there since opinions on the song are being thrown around.
