Damn, the people have spoken and they must love Chris Lane! He sold 1/5 of Jake Owen's recent album, so it makes sense that his single just glossed it's way up the charts.

First of all as a country album, I think this is horrible, one of the worst I've seen labeled as that probably ever. As a pop album, maybe this is better - I don't really know. Fix is the only song I really enjoy on here. Maybe more will grow on me. Really what I want to say is that it's simply amazing how Nashville can do a complete 180 on a guy and radio will start playing him because he sings pop music and changed his image. I don't know much about him, but looking at the guy when it was The Chris Lane Band, I feel like the label told him to get on board with this new look and sound or get out. The stuff from when he has The Chris Lane Band is great country rock music and what I expected from the guy after I heard Broken Windshield View. I don't know how many of you listened to that before but I'm sure you can find some stuff on YouTube (More Than That, Lets Ride, Too Tennessee, Starting Tonight). For his sake I hope he's doing what he wants but to go from putting out sounds like Starting Tonight to For Her in 3 years is amazing. I don't like to use the word sell out because I know these guys are trying to make a living and they may need to do this to go where they want to go in the industry. But man, I don't know any other way to describe it. No. Just no. He found a style and sound that was unique for the market, once they found that, Big Loud Records was born. He was basically an Aldean clone before that. There wasn't any draconian label telling him to do this or get out. The label came AFTER they had produced some stuff with Joey Moi. It may not be what many here like but it is what worked for him as a developing artist. Same with Sam Hunt. If you'd have heard his earlier stuff and seen his look he tried before he landed where he's at, you'd be saying the same stuff about him. The only difference is he didn't release an album of stuff before moving to Nashville like Chris did. -- Any sales number in the 6-7k range isn't bad at all these days. Especially for a newer artist on a small company. Comparing it to Stapleton (much larger machine of PR, industry love and promo behind it) is disengenuous. Compare this week to other first weeks for debut acts (or perceived debut acts). It's right where expectations were. Comparing to "A Texas act" who debuted high 2 years ago and TC3? Again, these aren't apples to apples comparisons.

Ouch! With those sales. I figured given the amount of exposure Chris Lane had at country radio he'd at least land in the 10-12k range since "Fix" is a #1 single. I mean this year acts like Brandy Clark, David Nail, Frankie Ballard, and Jennifer Nettles and all have had a lot less radio exposure this year. I am just stunned as the last time I can remember a major label album selling this bad was Gloriana Three, like that is a really bad opening week. Sales are down obviously across the board, but 6-7k for a singer who has a #1 hit at country radio, kinda pathetic in my opinion.

It doesn't matter if an artist is new (the label doesn't play a huge role either), 6,000 copies of your debut album sold the first week, after the airplay from a #1 radio single, is embarrassing. I agree that comparing it to Stapleton is unfair and to Texas acts who have been around a while is equally unfair.
We all know album sales are at an all-time low and selling full-length albums is very difficult these days, for even the biggest of names, but 6,000 copies is not a number to be proud of for sure, lol.

There was really no way to spin Frankie Ballard's abysmal showing, so there's also no way to spin this as anything other than...bad.

rsmatto these sales are bad. That's the only way to put it. It's not an apples to apples comparison because every artist is in a different position. The thing is (as you know): radio is passive and sales are active. The people are speaking. It's about time radio folks listen.

He appeals to younger stream only folks, that affects album sales.
