#2 debut on Hot 100 Airplay (Madonna's Erotica) = impossible Born This Way was close, debuted #6.
Xmas song topping Hot 100. Only Mariah's All I Want For Xmas Is You getting close to top 10 (peaking at #11 last year, hopefully top 10 this year)

ITT: things that are likely to not happen, but still have a chance so they really don't belong here.
Here's something that actually will never happen again:
A song peaking at #1 in airplay, but not even charting on the Hot 100.

ITT (the OP, to be specific): "What are some chart stats or stuff that may not happen again?"
idk, "may not" implies to me that there's a possibility of it occurring again

A song peaking at #1 in airplay, but not even charting on the Hot 100. Interesting, explanation please Old chart rule that stated only songs with commercially released singles could chart on the Hot 100. Well, in the mid-90s, commercial singles were not that profitable anymore and labels just stopped releasing them. This caused some songs to perform really well on airplay, but never hit the Hot 100 as you couldn't physically purchase the single by itself. A notable example is No Doubt's "Don't Speak," which spent a monstrous amount of time at number one on the airplay chart, but was never allowed to chart on the Hot 100. The rule was eventually nixed, so the proof from the late 90s to early 00s had a Hot 100 that closely resembled the airplay chart since physical singles still either weren't being released or weren't selling well. Luckily digital sales came along in 2005 to shake things up followed by streaming in 2011. ITT (the OP, to be specific): "What are some chart stats or stuff that may not happen again?" idk, "may not" implies to me that there's a possibility of it occurring again The title explicitly states will not, which is completely different from may not.

The phrase "will never happen again" is kind of stupid (unless walker was being cheeky, and really meaning to say "most likely won't happen again" because the occurrences were so rare and exceptional), because none of us can entirely predict the future. We have no idea in ten years or decades from now how market conditions or technology will change or how Billboard will re-calibrate their rules. Maybe ten week #1's will become a rarity again, or maybe songs staying at #1 for more than 20 will become fairly common, kind of like how it is with the AC chart. Or maybe Austin's comment about the Airplay #1 not charting on the Hot 100 might actually happen, if someday airplay becomes no longer a popular medium for music, and the no. 1 only gets 10 or 20 million AI or so. Who would have thought before the age of the Internet that a song could rank at No. 1 on the Physical Singles chart but not appear on the Hot 100, yet it happens all the time now!!

^ Gotye had a song that debuted for a week somewhere in the 90s. Daniel Powter, Magic1 and OMI are the recent ones that I recall without looking it up that had #1 single but no other song that charted

Yeah but he hasn't had a single chart since STIYTK. He had 2 in the bottom 50 in the 00s, but tekkenguy was talking about returning after a smash. You're wrong and forg is right. Gotye debuted at #96 with "Eyes Wide Open" AFTER STIYTK. Also, I believe tekkenguy was talking about a career in general, not a career *after* a number-one. An obvious one that got missed is Baauer - "Harlem Shake" had five weeks and he never landed on the Hot 100 again. If we count featured artists (but DON'T include artists that otherwise charted as members of groups- Nate Ruess, Lauren Bennett) the list grows to include Kyla, Wizkid, Ray Dalton, Wanz, Kimbra, Goonrock, and Static Major.

What about an artist having 3 songs in top 20 year end?
Usher did it twice - 1998 and 2004 50 Cent - 2005 Akon & Fergie - 2007 Chris Brown - 2008 Flo Rida - 2012 The Weeknd & Taylor Swift - 2015
50 Cent was close to having one in 2003 too but PIMP was 21.
(may have forgotten some)
Mariah Carey may have done it too some years, Idk
Will we ever end up seeing an artist have 3 songs(not features) in Year End top 20 in Future Years? or no
What do you all think?

In 1987 Tommy James and The Shondells' "Mony Mony" cover by Billy Idol dethroned another Tommy James and The Shondels cover from the #1 spot, "I think we're alone now" by Tiffany. So bizarre.

I have a feeling a 17 week #1 is coming very very very soon. How appropriate that this post was made, because that almost happened. Okay, maybe it didn't almost happen, but many were afraid Closer would break the record, at least until Black Beatles exploded out of nowhere. Or at least it could still happen if BB dies out fast... Which some are predicting but even then it's still not likely.

Which some are predicting but even then it's still not likely. If BB dies out quickly, Starboy will probably be #1, and even if Closer does get back to #1, it still needs 6 weeks to break the record, which is more than enough time for a song to suddenly blast up the charts and dominate. So as long as the charts doesn't get static af, I'm pretty sure 17 weeks for Closer isn't happening.

Sometimes the predictions for 17 weeks happen pretty early, depends on how many people here like the song.
10-14 week runs at #1 happen frequently enough now that it is only a matter of time before something hits 16

I need to find the exact chart but there was one week in 1979 where the entire Hot 100 was the exact same for 2 weeks in a row. I'm going to look for it on the archives now.

Here was the chart I remember seeing, it was actually 1977: www.billboard.com/charts/hot-100/1977-12-31And upon research it looks like the last year they did this was in 1991.

The top 5 being held by only one artist. I do believe the Beatles's record will stand forever, thank you very much. I don't see a rock and/or country song topping the charts again. I agree with you on country, but twenty one pilots could hit potentially number one if they release another single from blurryface (HEAVYDIRTYSOUL PLEASE!), or they release an album next year.

How about an artist dying while having a current top 10 single?
I believe John Lennons Just Like Starting Over was falling out of the top 10, then he was killed and it shot up to #1 soon after.

Yep, I disagree with a rock song not going to #1 as well. Not to mention that 21P also had two #2 peaking songs this year, which, not considering the points difference too much, is as close to #1 as it gets without being #1. Other acts have come close as well in the last 2-3 years like Hozier, Imagine Dragons, etc., so I would hardly say rock is a dying genre that could no longer reach the top.

First single hitting number one after the second one. I'm talking about "Only Girl" and "What's My Name".

^^For the record I would not consider Twenty One Pilots and Imagine Dragons to be rock -- they're alternative and poppy alternative at that.
