Gravey (walker) did a thread similar to this recently, so I decided to create this one. What are some songs you're really relieved were blocked by some of your faves?
Here are some of mine off the top of my head:
Blurred Lines blocking We Can't Stop but booooo at it blocking Get Lucky :'(
Shake It Off blocking Anaconda
We Are Young blocking Boyfriend (well ok I don't actually hate Boyfriend now but I really hated Bieber at the time and didn't want him to have a #1, as did a lot of people lol)
Dark Horse blocking Drunk In Love (well I loved DH at the time, and didn't really like DIL, though it's def better than some of her later content)
Rude blocking Stay With Me (again, I don't really hate SWM but hoped it wouldn't get #1)
Lose Yourself blocking Work It (again, I don't hate the latter I just don't really like it either especially compared to the former)
Crazy In Love blocking Right Thurr
Hollaback Girl blocking Oh (again, don't hate the latter just don't like it)
I know a lot of people will say Work blocking 7 Years and OMN blocking Gangnam Style

Fancy blocking Problem (sorry) First one that came to mind.
Allthough I dont hate Problem THAT MUCH.
I would say Hotline Bling but the songs that blocked it (The Hills and Hello) I hate as well.

how can I forget I Gotta Feeling blocking Party in the USA? I was so relieved. Though it blocked some other songs I liked
also didn't like BIEH at the time so I was happy about IGF blocking it
Miley did end up getting #1 with Wrecking Ball but thankfully that's one of her few decent songs.

Although I don't hate Sugar or Thinking Out Loud, I have no qualms at all with the fact that Uptown Funk kept them from hitting #1.
And I'm not THE biggest fan of Shake It Off, but I'd much rather have it at #1 than Anaconda.
The Hills >>>>> Hotline Bling. Even though the latter has that epic video.
Also, even though this wasn't a #2, Animals deserved to get shut down by Shake It Off and All About That Bass (and later, Blank Space).

Shake It Off blocking Anaconda (Though its far from Tay's best, I still really like SIO. Anaconda is one of the worst songs of the decade...)
See You Again blocking Trap Queen (I don't hate TQ anymore, but I remember hating the song when it was peaking)
The Hills blocking Hotline Bling. (Don't hate Hotline Bling at all, but Hills is too good it puts HB to shame)
And not really a #2 but similar: Cheerleader and CFMF blocking Watch Me (I'm not a huge fan of Cheerleader, but I love CFMF. And even Cheerleader is so many times better than Watch Me...)

not a big fan of Tik Tok, but I thank my lucky stars it blocked Today Was A Cringeytale. Think the latter debuted at #1 in Canada though :/

I half agree with this. Yes, Praise The Lord that "Anaconda" disaster didn't debut a week earlier (or for SIO debut a week later) and end up getting that #1. But I honestly wouldn't have minded Starships or Turn Me On or even Super Bass hitting #1, just to piss off the haters  (not referring to you in particular, just in general lol) and because I really like those songs. But yes, I'm pretty appalled that Anaconda is her highest-peaking hit when she has some actual tolerable songs. Welp, at least it wasn't "Stupid Hoe", which is even worse... and lmao at the billboardfan1 comment. Yeah, prob not the best fit for the moderator position on Pulse lol |
