I know this is a bit of an unpopular opinion among some, but in terms of hit singles, I think "7 rings" is by far Ariana Grande's worst, and yet it is her most successful song according to Billboard (for now, at least). Similar to Taylor's "Shake It Off", it's definitely not a good representation of the artist, both among deep cuts and hit singles. "thank u, next" or "Side To Side" deserved the honor instead (or "Into You", in an ideal world). I second Zeebz with "All About That Bass", and this is coming from someone who actually enjoys a lot of Meghan Trainor's output. Thankfully AC stations still can't get enough of "Like I'm Gonna Lose You", so even if the former was the bigger hit according to Billboard, the latter could hopefully be better remembered. According to Billboard, Drake's biggest solo hit is " God's Plan", which despite being a good enough song, is far from his best hit song. I'd also add Stevie Wonder, whose biggest Billboard hit is " I Just Called To Say I Love You", which does not showcase the best of his artistry at all. I thought Stevie's biggest hit was Ebony and Ivory (which is also one of his worst)

I'd also add Stevie Wonder, whose biggest Billboard hit is " I Just Called To Say I Love You", which does not showcase the best of his artistry at all. I thought Stevie's biggest hit was Ebony and Ivory (which is also one of his worst) I think that since Paul McCartney is equally credited on the song, Billboard didn't put it on Stevie Wonder's chart history (where I based my information from), and given I opted for solo hits for Drake (otherwise Billboard says "No Guidance" is his biggest song), I did the same for Stevie. Either way, both songs are definitely two of his weakest, and don't hold a candle to his amazing hits of the late 60s and 70s.

Sara Bareilles. She's probably in my all-time top 10, but I can't stand "Love Song," or her third-biggest hit, "King of Anything." "Brave," her second-biggest hit, is fine by me, though. I thought Stevie's biggest hit was Ebony and Ivory (which is also one of his worst) Either way, both songs are definitely two of his weakest, and don't hold a candle to his amazing hits of the late 60s and 70s. I think a lot of the general public, particularly my age and younger, have no idea that Stevie Wonder is essentially a genius, because they only know him from these songs (and the conspiracy theory that he isn't actually blind, which.......).

"Thinking Out Loud" by Ed Sheeran, hopefully that changes in the future and song like "Sing" or "Don't" hits #1, right now seems unlikely because he is generally "beloved" as this acoustic guitar guy, what a waste of talent "Shape of You" has since taken its place as his biggest hit, though whether that's an improvement is a matter of opinion.

I’d say Royals by Lorde, it’s probably my least favourite song by her. It’s still really good, I just wish some of her other songs could have been as big.

Cyndi Lauper song Girls Just Wanna Fun is annoying as hell and it is her biggest in terms of overall success and she has better songs for example Time After Time.
Madonna Like A Prayer isnt her best song but it's her biggest and she has way better songs than that

Nelly biggest hit Hot In Here in terms of overall popularity is his biggest but he has a few songs that are better than that. Like Come Rid With Me, and Dilemmia.
Boyz II Men biggest hit is End Of The Road and I can not stand that damn song. They have better songs than this like One Sweet Day, On Bended Knee, Water Runs Dry etc...
Whitney Houston I Will Always Love You is her biggest but it isnt her greatest.
Taylor Dayne Tell It To My Heart in terms of popularity is her biggest but Love Will Lead You Back and Dont Rush Me are better.
Straight Up by Paula Abdul isnt her greatest in fact Cold Hearted, and Rush Rush are better.
Beyonce's Irreplaceable isnt a bad song but she does have better songs than Irreplaceable.
Baby One More Time isn't all that good, it's nice to dance to but in terms of great songs Britney has waaaaay more than BOMT.
The Pussycat Dolls I looooove but Dont Cha isnt better than Buttons, Stickwitu, Beep and I Hate This Part.
Lizzo's Truth Hurts isnt horrible but she has better songs like Scuse Me, Water Me, etc...
Jordin Sparks No Air I do not like that song but anything she has recorded minus Let The Music Play is better than No Air.

Like A Virgin - Madonna (her most annoying song ever)
Baby One More Time - Britney (I much prefer her other hits)
Used to like Toxic a lot back then, but now I prefer her other songs over it.
I Will Always Love You - Whitney (her most overrated for sure) Definitely prefer her other hits.
Single Ladies - Beyonce (overrated as HELL...give me Check On It, Deja Vu, Irreplaceable, or Freakum Dress please)

The first one that came to mind is Closer. Off the top of my head I can't think of a worse Chainsmokers song, and certainly not a worse hit. Maybe Call You Mine, but I'd barely call it a hit lol

yeah came here to say Lorde, love Royals but i prefer nearly all of her other singles also Carly Rae, even though CMM is solid i really like Humble but its weak compared to most of Kendrick's other singles but probably the most obvious answer to me is Radiohead, i like Creep but its so far off their best work

I WILL NOT STAND FOR THIS CALL ME MAYBE SLANDER
Although with Royals, funny thing: I used to really not like that song, I just found it annoying. I warmed up to it for a few years but after Melodrama, I went back to Royals and yeah, I don't like it but ironically I went back to the reasons I used to not like it in 2013, albeit I can articulate it better. But yeah, there's an argument that Royals is one of Lorde's weakest songs, especially compared to single from PH like Ribs, Team, and Tennis Court.

Sam Smith for me. I think he’s been steadily getting better over the years to the point where I actually like his more recent hits, but my god was Stay With Me a horrendous first impression. Burn that song with fire.
Also I’d have to go with Aerosmith. So many classic songs over the years, yet their only #1 hit is that cheesy Armageddon ballad I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing? I don’t completely hate that song, but when compared to... well... the rest of their discography? Nope.

Niall Horan's "Slow Hands," all his other singles were way better IMO.

I second Sam Smith. "Stay With Me" definitely doesn't deserve to be their biggest hit. I don't mind it all that much, but compared to literally everything Sam put out afterwards (except "I'm Ready), it just pales in comparison.
Good thing the UK didn't paid them dust and made "Money On My Mind", "La La La", "Too Good At Goodbyes" and "Promises" #1 hits as well.

Watcha Say by Jason Derulo. At least songs like Wiggle and Talk Dirty are stupidly bad. Watcha Say is still one of the worst number ones of the 2000s. Horribly insincere, grating autotune, and of course butchering and disrespecting the Imogen Heap sample.
Also Latch by Disclosure. I'm not even a big Disclosure fan but why was this their biggest hit and not their collabs with Jessie Ware or Lorde

Adding Katy Perry to the list as well. Out of her nine #1 hits, "Dark Horse" is by far one of her weakest alongside "Roar", yet considered her biggest hit according to Billboard.
Good thing "Firework" is considered her second biggest, though, and still gets frequent plays thanks to Fourth Of July + New Year festivities.

Perfect Places, Homemade Dynamite, Glory & Gore, Green Light, Tennis Court, even Team should all be bigger. Homemade Dynamite and Glory and Gore should be singles.
