I'm making a Sporcle quiz of Billboard's year-end Rock Songs, and noticed: Right after "Gone" by JR JR is "Goner" by twenty one pilots. Also, "Take Me Down", "Take It From Me" and "Take It All Back" are #81, #82 and #83. In addition, The Sound of Silence makes two appearances on the chart: Disturbed's cover is #9 and the original by Simon & Garfunkel is #100. edit: shameless plug but the quiz is up! |

Mario Winans - I Dont Wanna Know was number 2 on Hot 100 for 8 weeks.
Songs that blocked it from.
Usher - Yeah - 4 weeks
Usher - Burn - 4 weeks
And it was consecutive too.
Usher blocked Mario Winans with 2 songs.
Yeah and Burn also ended up being number 1 and 2 year end of 2004.
Unluckiest number 2 run ever. :(

This coincidence was pointed out in a Billboard Chart Beat article and I remember it since it was very clever: in the chart dated October 10, 2015 in two titles of songs with Drake appearance one answered the other's question, #33 Where You At - Future featuring Drake and #34 Back to Back - Drake.
While it isn't surprising that Madonna has hit all Top 10 positions of the Hot 100 being the artist with the most Top 10s (38), the two other artists to do so aren't even in the Top 10 artists with most Top 10s: Aretha Franklin (17) and Marvin Gaye (18). If we extend that to #11, only Aretha did it.

I came up with one while listening to last weekend's AT40: The 80's.
In early 1980, the songs called "Second Time Around" and "Third Time Lucky" were in the top 40 at the same time.

On the Hot 100 chart dated 11/24/2007, Take Me There by Rascal Flatts and Take You There by Sean Kingston were right next to each other at 62 and 63 respectively.

"Crazy" and "F**k You" (two hits CeeLo Green has involvement in) both peaked at #2 and was #7 in the Year-End lists of 2006 and 2011 respectively.

Also, Cee-Lo is technically a one-hit wonder three times: With the Goodie Mob ("Cell Therapy"), Gnarls Barkley ("Crazy"), and on his own ("F**k You") he had only one top 40 hit. Everlast from House of Pain was a one-hit wonder twice with "What It's Like" and "Jump Around", respectively.

I found this coincidence really cool.
All the songs in the Billboard Year-End Hot 100 that ended in #10 since 2013 are all re-entries the following year.
2013: Katy Perry - Roar (#46 in 2014)
2014: Sam Smith - Stay With Me (#58 in 2015)
2015: The Weeknd - The Hills (#32 in 2016)
2016: The Chainsmokers ft. Halsey - Closer (TBD)
All of them except for Stay With Me became #1 during the Fall Season (Roar and Closer became #1 during September, while The Hills became #1 during October.)

The songs that ended in #59 in the YE since 2014 have a peak of #13 (Cool Kids, You Know You Like It, For Free)
You Know You Like It For Free LOL
Songs that are placed in #22 in the Billboard Year-End Hot 100 since 2010 except for 2012 and 2016 has a peak of #4 (DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love, Down On Me, Holy Grail, Wake Me Up, Lips Are Movin)
#21 must have a habit of placing songs that are used in movies (Cups by Anna Kendrick - Pitch Perfect in 2013, Let It Go by Idina Menzel - Frozen in 2014, and then Heathens by Twenty One Pilots - Suicide Squad last year)

- The third #1 songs of Kanye West and Kelly Clarkson have the word "stronger" in their titles. Keep in mind that "Stronger" and "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)" are the only #1 songs in the Hot 100's history with the word "stronger" in their titles.
- "Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)" and "Cheap Thrills" have pretty similar chart runs. They entered the Hot 100 around March of 2015 and 2016 respectively (or late February 2016 in the case of "Cheap Thrills" if you're going by the actual calendar rather than the chart calendar), entered the Top 10 in their 18th week in the summer, left the Top 10 in their 36th week in the fall, and spent around a whole year in the Hot 100 (though "Cheap Thrills" could've spent more weeks on the chart were it not for the 52-week rule).
(Fun fact: In the week "Watch Me" left the chart, "Cheap Thrills" also debuts.)

- The two biggest hits from OneRepublic, "Apologize" and "Counting Stars", peaked at #2 and were in the Top 10 for 25 weeks. Also, both of their Top 10 runs were split between two years (2007-2008 for "Apologize" and 2013-2014 for "Counting Stars") and they both landed at #5 on the Year-End lists for 2008 and 2014 respectively.
Also, when Apologize and Counting Stars entered the Billboard Year-End Hot 100 before they became successful (2007 and 2013), they are both within the 61-70 area (Apologize was 66 while Counting Stars was 63). |
