I pegged Penthouse Floor as a political song, as soon as I saw the title, LOL.
I am really excited for this, now that I know Blake Mills is on board. I would love John to continue to explore the sounds of Show Me, I Love You Love, and This Time. Those are 3 of my all-time favorite songs of his (along with Slow Dance and So High.)

Alabama Shakes' slower songs really are some powerful soulful music, so if John is gonna deliver some of that, then he will have me sold!

I guess they're waiting to see how the single does before announcing a release date for the album. They probably don't want a messy era like Alicia may be seeing.

I'm tired of these demo tracks and remixes being exclusives. Keep that ish on Soundcloud and Spotify and give me actual material.

At least two of the 3 songs are completely new, unlike, ahem, Tove Lo.

I like Penthouse Floor.
Chill vibe and heavy strings.

Love it. Hope the album is more in that vein vs. LMN.

"Penthouse Floor" is miles ahead of the single. I like "I Know Better" too.
Oh and nice artwork.

His vocal on "I Know Better" is SUPERB. The song itself, I'm kinda eh on. I don't see myself getting a lot of replay out of it. And I don't like "Love Me Now." "Penthouse Floor" is the sh*t though, I need more of that.
I'm really nervous about this album. He's one of my favs, but his last one was such a snooze overall, I'm gonna need him to get some of the flavor back from his first three.

Poor John doesn't even know his CD's release date so I doubt the general public knows. He tweeted yesterday that Darkness & Light is out now on CD, Vinyl, and MP3.

Only halfway through and already loving this album way more than LITF; Blake Mills did a great job with production!

Yeah, this is better than LITF just by length alone (that album was so bloated). The title track is AMAZING, easily my favorite on the album. And his vocals are SO good, ugh, and they're always front and center in the mix. He is by far my favorite male singer currently working.
That being said, there are duds on here that keep it from being as good as his first three albums. But it's definitely an improvement over LITF which I was so disappointed by.

Listened to the first half this morning. Sounds promising.

I dunno. These songs all sound kinda meh to me.
Nothing here is giving me stank face and his songs usually do that to me. At least one panty dropper love jam exists on his albums, but not here. Unfortunate.
Right by You is the sound I appreciate from him. That's my fav.

Not a fan of this. Sounds very "light" like his last album. I miss the sound from his first few albums.

On my first listening I find this album kinda disappointing :( Love In The Future was a good album. Get Lifted is still his best album tho.

#8 on iTunes; I'm expecting a 50-60k debut similar to Maxwell and Alicia.
