Not really feeling the album like that yet. I do like Darkness and Light, Overload, Love Me Now, Penthouse Floor and Surefire.

It's not bad. I really don't know why they went with "Love Me Now" as the lead single after listening all the way through. "Penthouse Floor" should've led this whole thing off; Chance's bridge on the song is fantastic.
I'm hooked on Brittany Howard's vocals on the title track. Their voices are absolutely stellar together.

This is officially my favorite album of his. The only songs that would rival it from other albums would be So High, Refuge, I Love You Love, This Time, and Show Me. Nothing else from his catalog are as essential as this whole album is. The ONLY song I don't really care about is Temporarily Painless. It's not terrible. It's just not memorable. Inoffensive filler but good Lord, what is What You Do To Me? Makes me want to have the dirtiest sex imaginable. It's some grudge fuck up against the wall shit. They should put it on 50 Shades of Grey sequel soundtrack and release it as a single since those singles do well.

Girl you're tripping.
Nothing here is remotely as good as Ordinary People or SaveRoom.
John is certainly a different type of artist to each of us.

Get Lifted Once Again Darkness and Light Love in the Future Evolver
That raw grit from his first album is gone and never coming back but I will say that I definitely enjoy this new album more than his last two and can appreciate Blake bringing *some* freshness to the table as a producer.
In other news, this will be his first album to debut outside the top-10; #15 with 35k SPS/#13 with 27k sales per Hits.

I haven't enjoyed anything by John, aside from a few singles and album tracks, since Get Lifted. That debut was just so, so good. I do like that he isn't afraid to try new things, but it usually falls short for me. Still, I wish him great success and will always be open to hearing his new material.

Yeah, this is far from his best. But it's still better than his last, which was such a dud.

Everyone is different! His voice is the star of the show here but Blake Mills brought it with the production. Glad John gave him the reins for the whole album but he was wise to after Sound & Color.

John will perform during halftime of the NBA All-Star Game in February.
Not a huge deal, but it's promo nonetheless.

For me, this is his most consistent work since his debut album. My favorites: Penthouse Floor Darkness and Light Overload Love Me Now What You Do To Me How Can I Blame You

"Surefire" is picking up at Urban AC. Next single? Just heard it on my local Urban AC station and the DJ said it was a "new single".

I'm patiently waiting for "What You Do To Me" to be released. Love that song. I'm not your typical John Legend fan and usually just like his singles so I'm assuming a lot of his fans don't like this. lol I hope they release it though and maybe something else for his UAC crowd.

Added Gallant as his opening act.
That's exciting - I love his sound.

John Legend Is Hopeful for a Better Country 'In America' On Wednesday (March 22), John Legend returned with a brand new track titled "In America," in light of the second season of WGN's acclaimed TV series Underground. Here, the crooner sings about hope and optimism for those entranced by the idea of one day thriving in America. “'In America' was born around the same time I was working on my most recent album Darkness and Light," Legend, who serves as an executive producer on the show, said in a press release. "It’s a song I was writing while thinking about the duality of America, where it's known to be this place of freedom, equality and where anyone can make it. "The song points out the tension between the promise of America, the ideals of America, and sometimes us not living up to those ideals in practice. 'In America' was the perfect song for Underground, a series I’m incredibly proud to be a part of, and one that does a beautiful job of portraying a challenging time in our nation’s history while reminding us that change is possible.” www.billboard.com/articles/columns/hip-hop/7735682/john-legend-in-america-undergroundReally good song!

Underground was canceled by WGN and John is currently trying to find a new home for it; OWN and Netflix reportedly passed on it due to its high production costs ($5m approx. per episode) while Hulu is still in talks since they already had the streaming rights to it.
He also won a Tony tonight as co-producer on the revival of August Wilson's Jitney, which leaves him an Emmy away from achieving EGOT status.

Congrats on his MTV VMA nomination today.
I didn't realize he's already on his 3rd single for this album. Haven't heard anything on the radio from him since "Love Me Now."

He did a fantastic job at Global Citizens. He performed Redemption Song, a new song Preach, and All of Me. He also duetted with Shawn Mendes on Youth.

John coming for that big holiday seller, I see! (or as big as today's sales market will allow) Hopefully one of the original songs is a standout.

I assume he re-signed with Columbia direct since his last album fulfilled his G.O.O.D. Music contract.
