Gonna be honest, the 133/122 numbers from Miranda are less than I was hoping for/expecting. It's a pretty decent drop from Platinum, and means the album is only the 4th best country seller this year. Never mind that it's also pretty decently under what Carrie did in the same period last year.Β Carrie Underwood had a better lead single in Smoke Break (#2). Both songs sold pretty equivalent. "Vice" obviously won't have the radio support that "Smoke Break" had. But both songs were really successful.

Considering "Vice" didn't do quite as well as "Automatic" at radio, and that this album was a 2-disc set and therefore a bit more expensive, and that sales across the board continue to drop for basically everybody (Carrie Underwood, for instance since she was brought up, sold about 100k less in her opening week with Storyteller than Blown Away did), I think the numbers for Miranda Lambert's album are pretty spot-on. I bet Miranda and her team are pretty pleased with that debut.

I was quite apprehensive about how this would sell considering the price for a double album particularly. Also, don't know why but this whole era, up to now, has a very "indie" aura to it (lol)... how Miranda has been approaching this project, with the sound she's going for, releasing it as a double-album conceptual record... don't know how to explain, but it doesn't have the feel of a major label release to me for some reason (and I don't mean that as a bad thing... I actually like it a lot)

I had quite a bit to do around the house today so finally decided to give this a listen; it's so good I've been listening to it all day (even at the gym lol). From beginning to end this album is just stunning...Miranda takes you on a journey displaying a sense of emotion so rare to hear from an artist these days. This should easily be the top contender for next year's CMA Album of the Year. The only negative thing I'll say is the choice in the second single "We Should Be Friends" as it's probably one of my least favorite songs on the album, however based on the current environment at radio it is likely a safe choice (but I hope she'll take some risks with the singles after this hit or not). Anyways, I enjoyed this album so much I purchased the vinyl edition to add to my collection ;) Favorites on repeat: 1. Runnin' Just in Case (Nerve) 2. Tin Man (Heart) 3. Getaway Driver (Nerve) 4. I've Got Wheels (Heart) 5. You Wouldn't Know Me (Nerve) 6. Things That Break (Heart) 7. Keeper of the Flame (Heart) 8. Ugly Lights (Nerve) 9. Pushin' Time (Nerve) 10. Tomboy (Heart) That makes it a tie lol...five for The Heart and five for The Nerve (although "Vice" is another favorite so edge goes to The Nerve). Guilty Pleasure: Pink Sunglasses (sorry trebor lol! I like how Miranda's snarky/fun side is on display in this one) Least Favorites: 1. Six Degrees of Separation 2. We Should Be Friends

Slightly disappointed. That being said, I've only listened to the whole thing one time and I usually give a few good listens before I formally make an opinion, so this is a bit pre-mature. I do think it's long. I never thought I'd say that about any artist's album that I love so much.. I truthfully feel like she could have did without SOME of the songs. But most of them I know I'll grow to love; I think some of the ballads really stand out on this one. Here's my list of one's that I like just based off of the first listen. Again, will have to listen more still: Runnin' Just In Case Highway Vagabond We Should Be Friends Getaway Driver Vice Pushin' Time * Use My Heart Tin Man * To Learn Her Keeper of the Flame Bad Boy *'s are my favorites so far. Well, I knew it was too premature to critique, lol. It usually takes me 5 or so listens before I decide whether I like an album or not so I give it a fair chance. With my favorites (Miranda has always been one of them) luckily I've never had that problem... some just take longer to grow on you than others! Anyways, the more I listen to this the more I love it, naturally. I still stick to my comment about the majority of songs being ballads and how it's a quieter album (for the most part) and as much as I love Miranda's fun, quirky side.. there has just always been something about her ballads that get me. Every single time!! The original list I had definitely still stands. Tin Man is my absolute favorite on album, no doubt about it. Still followed by Pushin' Time. I know I had Getaway Drive on my original list as well and that song is really getting up there for me as well. I also did not include Well-Rested in the list but I definitely need to add it now. That song is also unreal. Her vocals, emotion and vulnerability is just crazy. The lyrics and the whole concept just kills me too. Such a good one!! Wasn't totally sold on "We Should Be Friends" as the new single, but it's also really grown on me. I already find myself getting excited when I hear it on the radio and I think it's going to do really well for her. Much better than some of her latest ones anyway. One can only hope at this point at least, sigh. Think that's it for my next batch of random thoughts. haha!

Ok I finally had the time to fully digest this album!
I may rank this as Miranda's best album artistically speaking. It's so well put together and it delivers on all the potential she's shown throughout her career. Love her choices in collaborators and covers they show just how much she truly cares for the craft of music. The lack of uptempo songs is probably the biggest complaint but it's really such a tiny one that ultimately doesn't matter. Just a stunning piece of work here and it better be nominated for a shot ton of awards!

I feel like that's just about everybody's least favorite so far, lol. I gotta say - It's very polarizing and is definitely one of those that takes a lot of listening to/getting use to. It's alright for me. I don't dislike it by any means but it's probably my least favorite track on the album as well!

Okay, so I finally got to sit and listen to this a few times through this week on a road trip and I am much more impressed now that I've been able to really focus on the content of this album. It just kinda blends together and is unmemorable if you have it playing in the background at work like I did However, this may be my favorite album from her as a whole, or from an artistic point of view. Many of the songs do not have traditional structures, most glaring is the lack of chorus in several songs. But to me, this makes them feel more like sung poems. There isn't a ton of radio friendly material on here, which may mean Miranda could struggle to get radio success with this album, but with this high quality of music, I'd rather her go down this road. Anyway, here is my ranking of all the songs: 01. Tin Man 02. Vice 03. Runnin' Just in Case 04. Pushin' Time 05. Getaway Driver 06. Smoking Jacket 07. You Wouldn't Know Me 08. Keeper of the Flame 09. I've Got Wheels 10. We Should Be Friends 11. Bad Boy 12. Use My Heart 13. Ugly Lights 14. Well-Rested 15. Good Ol' Days 16. Tomboy 17. Highway Vagabond 18. To Learn Her 19. Things That Break 20. For the Birds 21. Covered Wagon 22. Pink Sunglasses 23. Dear Old Sun 24. Six Degrees of Separation But the top 13 are all fantastic, with the rest being good except for the last 3 - those I'm not a fan of still.

So most people have Tin Man ranked pretty high. It's by far one of my favorites too. I think the imagery and lyrics are just awesome and Miranda's interpretation of this one is just stunning. Is there any chance realistically of this becoming a single? It just doesn't seem well suited to what radio likes, so I'm just curious what others think.
It took me several listens to get these songs under my belt too. I have trouble ranking them but I keep coming back to Keeper of the Flame (seems radio friendly), To Learn Her (I just love the good old fashioned country sound of this one) and Pushin Time.

Given the fan response to it (seems to be the general standout favorite from the album) and that it's a very special song that Miranda Lambert probably feels strongly about, it's certainly possible and wouldn't surprise me if it were released at some point during the era. It may not be the most radio-friendly (not that this has stopped Miranda Lambert before), but I imagine it would sell immensely well as a single regardless of how well it does on radio (though I think just about anything she puts out would probably go at least Top 20, which is probably "good enough"). I could potentially see it even turning into another "The House That Built Me" surprise smash for her, too. Definitely a big risk, big reward option if she goes for it.

I love "Tin Man" so much. But my favorite and a song I can see being as big as "The House That Built Me" is "To Learn Her". I don't know why, but something about that song makes me feel like that should be a single.
Of couse I'd like to have both beautiful songs released. Country Perspective put it best when describing this album and saying it is the crown jewel of Miranda Lambert career and she has reached her full potential with this album.

Considering the only album in her discography to not have at least 1 'Album of the Year' award from somewhere is Kerosene, I'm definitely not expecting that trend to stop now. Those wings will be heavy with the weight of all the awards she's about to snatch up in 2017.

I think it could also be nominated in the general field for Album of the Year at the Grammys in 2018. I would love to see that happen for her.
