Whenever Niall's "Too Much to Ask" comes on the radio it sounds a bit like "Praying."
I remember when they played Avril's "My Happy Ending" on the radio, they added a bed of music to the intro that sounded just like Dido's "Thank You."

Whenever I hit play on "Beautiful Trauma," that opening note has me responding "Walk a mile in these Louboutins" as if I'm listening to Iggy Azalea's "Work."

Your Man - Josh Turner Nothing On But the Radio - Gary Allan
Always takes me a few seconds to tell which song is playing when they come on the radio.

In addition to Too Much to Ask and Praying as mentioned above, the intros of Back to You and Hymn for the Weekend are similar.

The beginning of Meant to Be sounds exactly like this song I used to hear at work all the time. But I can never remember the lyrics so I can’t google it :( all I know is it’s good and sung by a woman.

One Direction seem to have a lot of examples: "What Makes You Beautiful and Summer Nights"; "Live While We're Young" and "Should I Stay or Should I Go"; "Best Song Ever" and "Baba O'Riley"; "Steal My Girl" and "Faithfully"
Other examples I thought of: Fuel - "Hemorrhage" and Theory of a Deadman - "Not Meant To Be" Decyfer Down - "Crash" and Breaking Benjamin - "I Will Not Bow" Green Day - "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" and Rise Against - "Make It Stop" Lenny Kravitz - "Fly Away" and Switchfoot - "Dark Horses" David Bowie - "Let's Dance" and Neon Trees - "Everybody Talks" Boston - "More Than A Feeling" and Saving Abel - "Drowning"

I hear both these songs often and those beginning drums always fool me until that synth kicks in.

The guitar strumming at the beginning of all these songs is almost identical. 4/5 of these were written and produced by Max Martin and Dr. Luke, so that probably explains it.
